If you want some well earned rest and relaxation in a picture postcard village, with a minimum of people and lots of peace and quiet, and with plenty to do should you wish within touching distance, then Combe Cottage would make an excellent choice.
Well, within touching distance is The Miners Arms, about one minutes walk away! Good food, good beer and good local hospitality on the doorstep. Silecroft railway station is about a three minute walk away, handy for a train ride up the west coast or a great shopping trip to Carlisle.
About a twenty minute amble away down the road will see you arrive at one of the loveliest beaches along the western coast of Cumbria – Silecroft beach – miles of sandy beach in either direction, a beautiful ocean with waves crashing on the shore, few people, and a great beach café.
Combe Cottage is in the shadow of the great Black Combe which is just short of a mountain, and is the best place in the UK to see all five kingdoms - England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and The Isle of Man. It s very popular locally and quite demanding at times. You may see four seasons in one day as you walk to the summit. You can walk and bike around the coast for 20 miles – there is a secure storage space available at Combe Cottage.
Dressed in a very subtle grey and lemon colour palette throughout, Combe Cottages modern furnishings and decor compliment each other perfectly. Soothing colours have been chosen for relaxation and promoting a feeling of well being. Combe Cottage’s lounge is carpeted, there are two new very comfortable sofas, soft lighting and a very large TV, perfect for a movie night!
We think guests will spend a lot of time in the dining room – it’s the whole package! It’s very comfortable, with a traditional Cumbrian homely atmosphere, a beautiful stone floor under foot, a fabulous pine dresser, there s a rug waiting by the fire, central heating, a real flame effect fan heater makes it a great place to sink into a comfy chair, get lost in a book or catch up on social media!
Everything in the pastel painted Combe Cottage kitchen has been thoughtfully considered, and provided. It’s a small and beautifully designed space, and all you need is here - a fridge/freeze, a dishwasher, microwave, cooker, toaster etc... and there is even a small utility which houses a washing machine, and is a handy place to hang wet clothes, boots etc. You ll find the kitchen at Combe Cottage is well stocked with background everyday items too.
Combe Cottages bedrooms – the double, tastefully furnished with beautiful pine furniture, a fitted wardrobe, and complimented by the soft greys and lemons of the bed linen and towels, this bedroom is just simply lovely. A deep brown leather sleigh double bed combined with comfy pillows, a warm duvet, bespoke bed linen, fluffy bath sheets….. a great nights rest and relaxation seems guaranteed.
The twin room also boasts very luxurious bed linen, a little bolder with colour in here – strong purples and blues with a multi coloured very modern duvet design, we think this room is both very striking and also very inviting to the eye. This room features a built in wardrobe for guests too, and we feel the real wooden crafted doors throughout the property are a feature of real beauty and enhance all that the cottage has to offer.
The bathroom at Combe Cottage is of classical design. A bespoke white bathroom suite, comprising a full sized bath incorporating an easy to operate shower turn this functional space into something altogether more special – it’s lovely and warm in this room too for when guests come to get out of the bath!
Free on-street parking is available right outside the cottage, with paving underfoot to the cottage door. We also have an agreement with the landlord at The Miners Arms, and guests are welcome to leave their car off road in his private car park should they wish to. At the rear of the property there is a small enclosed courtyard with table and chairs, just ready and waiting for dining al fresco on those warm summer evenings.
A perfect rural setting – Combe Cottage, nestled snuggly within this small and friendly village results in a welcoming, cosy spot, very comfortably furnished and providing a great base to explore farther afield or simply enjoy what there is to do - which is plenty - on the doorstep.
