About Leanne Spencer-Harper
I'm originally from California, but now have lived in England for over 9 years with my British husband and our 2 year old daughter. I love having amazing adventures, travelling the world with my hubby, and mothering our precious little one.
Why Leanne Spencer-Harper chose Highmoor
The cottage belongs to Bob and Angela Spencer-Harper, my lovely English grandparents-in-law. Sadly, both Bob and Angela have now passed away, so my father-in-law, Michael, and I manage the cottage and rent it out on behalf of the family. The Old Place has been in the Spencer-Harper family for over 40 years. It is a very special place to gather and we have enjoyed making many happy memories there. We love sharing it with other people to make memories there too!
What makes this Cottage unique
The Old Place is steeped in history, having been built around 1604, and retains many of its original features, including its original exposed wooden beams and its large inglenook open fireplace. The cottage has a stunning outlook across over half an acre of expansive enclosed gardens. It is perfect for a quintessentially English countryside experience, being nestled in a wooded valley which the British government has deemed an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). There are loads of lovely walks right out the back door and a charming village right up the road. A cosy country pub is just a short walk away, which serves up delicious food and delicious ales!

Pre Christmas Break
A very homely place to stay, great walking and running straight out of the front door. A very warm welcome after a 8 hour drive. We had a great time here.
Excellent cottage nestled in the countryside
The cottage is warm and welcoming. The whole family thoroughly enjoyed their stay from the wooden beams to the home made brownies. We would have love to have stayed longer.
This beautiful house was perfect for our family weekend getaway! A very warm and thorough welcome. The property was immaculate, had games for the kids, and beautiful garden and was well located close to local towns. Will definitely stay again! Thank you so much to our hosts.
Short summer holiday
My friend and I took our 4 children (aged 3 - 8) to The Old Place for a 2 night stay in August and have been so impressed with the whole experience!! From Michael being at the house when we arrived with a bottle of wine, freshly cooked brownies and lots of information about the house and the location to the amazing garden and surrounding woodland that the children loved - we just can’t find anything to complain about!! We would highly recommend The Old Place and both my friend and I said we hadn’t been so relaxed in a long time! Thank you Michael and Leanne for a wonderful stay xxx
A Delightful Stay in The Old Place
We enjoyed our stay at this authentic English cottage. Check in was a breeze and we were greeted by Michael with fresh-baked brownies! We were shown around and made to feel immediately at home. All interactions were positive and helpful from booking through stay. Our privacy was respected as well.
The cottage itself was spacious, comfortable and well-stocked with a lovely and private garden area. We enjoyed a game of croquet in the huge yard and spent hours looking for geodes, which are abundant in the area. Lots of deer around as well! The area feels very safe and all interactions with locals were friendly. There is a nice pub within walking distance. The location is a great place to branch out and explore England, including London.
We would not hesitate to stay here again with our next trip to the UK. Thank you, Leanne and Michael, for sharing your family home with us and making us feel so very welcomed. Cheers!
It was lovely to stay in a much loved home with character.
The Rising Sun pub at the top of Witheridge Hill. Excellent cafe, another great pub and award winning restaurant in Stoke Row. Delightful shops, bars, pubs, restaurants, theatre and cinema in Henley. All of the above plus John Lewis in Reading. Sightseeing in Oxford, Windsor and the surrounding area. Three nearby National Trust properties to visit.
