About Dave Rueb and Karen Hunt
We purchased the property in 2016 with the help of the previous owners who'd owned it for nearly 40 years! Dave and I are both in Housing: Construction and Sales. With both of us self-employed in the housing industry we lost about everything (except each other!) in the crash. After business losses, bankruptcy, IRS audit, short sale and deaths in the family, we moved to Prescott, nearly on a whim. We rented from another couple we just met who believed in us and loaned us the down payment for this parcel of land. We started thinking about the possibilities of such a cute property and did a little work on the Log Cabin but tried to keep it mostly intact, even with its funky fixes by other owners and tenants. We renovated the Cottage down the lane in a big way (#883663), opening the floor plan and adding a garden. The Log Cabin appears to have been owned (and possibly built) by a man who was a piano tuner and salesman. His wife worked as a bookkeeper for an attorney. They had one daughter who eventually taught dance in Los Angeles but returned to Prescott to care for her father in his last days and bury him in the local cemetery next to his wife (researched at Sharlot Hall Museum). Thank you for choosing us. Let us know how we can make the property and your experience even better. We started this as our primary business after suffering many losses. We want a successful business and happy, satisfied guests! Blessings to you! Karen and Dave

Why Dave Rueb and Karen Hunt chose Prescott
We really liked the location near the Fairgrounds and Downtown (but not too close) and the seasonal creek. With all the large elms, locusts and cottonwoods, we knew we wanted to preserve and improve upon this little park-like setting. The owners were thrilled with our vision and were finally able to part with it, knowing we would be good stewards to the land and the creek which adds to the water supply in Prescott.
What makes this Cottage unique
Dave had a great vision for the Casita and did most of the work himself. It was a long, expensive haul! We originally thought we would decorate it in a Mexican motif. My vision came later with a Native American theme to honor the indigenous people of the West. We enjoyed furnishing meeting people and buying from their personal collections and from auctions, antique stores, yard sales, thrift stores and estate sales. It's so wonderful to see so many works of art, antiques and collectibles and remember the people and stories that go with them. It's been heartwarming, magical and humbling to repurpose someone else's beloved or handmade items!

This is the 3rd time this year my family and I have been to the casita. We couldn't say enough how much we love staying there! We have been for different reasons each time. The owners are the sweetest people to work with and even helped us pull off a Christmas surprise for our kids! Couldn't ask for anything more.

It’s in the details.
Dave and Karen have thought of everything for you to enjoy your stay here. They really have put a lot of thought into the details. The place is immaculate and close to Whiskey Row. Our little family loved it. I wish we could have stayed longer!
I love that--"it's in the details"! Very sweet! We're so glad your family loved the Casita! We wish you could have stayed longer too! You'll have to come back again!!!
You are missing out if you don't come stay at this adorable property with the nicest owners! We have stayed here 2 times and will already be booking for the spring. Our family of 4 has such a relaxing time at the casita and each time have found many things to do around town. We will continue to stay with Dave and Karen each time we make a visit up north. Thank you for such a great stay!
Than you Kristina for such a stellar review! You guys are great! Hilarious about your Watson Lake hike! It happened to us too!
We look forward to seeing you in the spring! I have a mini soccer ball you left that I'll save for you!
We have 1.25 acres of Meadow, & a Seasonal Creek that runs during a good Monsoon Season or after Snows in the winter!
We are right in town and 1.6 miles from Downtown and the Courthouse Plaza. Shopping is close by. Ergo a park-like setting close to amenities and downtown!
There are 2 Hiking Trails nearby-Rodeo Trails and Centennial Trail--within 2 blocks of the Casita. The Rodeo Fairgrounds are just a half a block away! If and event like the Rodeo, roping competition, antique sale or dogs herding livestock it's really fun to walk over and pet the horses or talk with the cowboys and cowgirls!
We have lots of brochures, information, a House Book and a Hiking Binder at the Casita!
