Water Front Home , Dogs Allowed, Beach, dock, canoe, kayak, Hghspeed, firepit

Situated on the coastal water, overlooking Bass Harbor's comings and goings of the local lobster men and yachtsmen, this historic village offers Thurston's famous restaurant ,that you can walk to in 3 minutes, a quaint village and private waterfront beach. This harbor is famous on Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park, for being the most photographed and painted working harbors in Maine. The famous Bass Harbor lighthouse is only 5 minutes away. Bar Harbor is a 15 min drive to the other side of the island. Kayak right from this oceanfront home, or just relax on the many decks and enjoy the view. New to the home is a fire pit and renovated kitchen. Great gourmet kitchen with local granite used. Totally renovated home.

Fire-pit, canoe and tandem kayak are also offered ... Lots of decks for your private use ..

Private floater on the shore as well for your use- please bring everything back up each night - due to high tides and winds.

We offer a fenced in yard for the pups and allow multiple dogs. No cats please. Each dog is the required to pay the fee of 125 each for the entire stay. Multiple dogs discounts offered.

Bar Harbor is easy to get to- generally about 15-20 minutes unless behind a lobster boat - or road construction.. This is the quiet side but with alot more to do .. ( since this town is not selling t-shirts )

This oceanfront/shore front home offers beautiful views of Cadillac Mountain and the working harbor all day. Photograph the many artists and photographers coming to this spot to capture Maine's beauty.

This is a great find in America's favorite coastal Maine (Bernard) destination. The home offers a fireplace, a great place to read, windows overlooking the harbor from the living room, or take a walk through the fishing village. Charming architectural details, attractive furnishings, a fenced in yard, and lovely flowers make this a wonderful spot for your stay. ! This home is right on the ocean with steps going down for your exploring, plus a fenced in yard, and gardens. The large yard is great for children and dogs. The home has been freshly painted in 2016 and currently the entire home has been renovated.

An easel is on site, for the artistic ones. An office area overlooks the harbor is equipped with high speed internet, and printer/ copier for those who need to stay in touch. This home also has excellent cell phone coverage for many providers. Call today, we can help you book the best activities as well...the only luxury home on the island...that really serves you..We are Maine Registered Guides and really know the area...

Our home does receive cell phone coverage

This home is within 2-5 minutes of the trails in Acadia National Park where you can enjoy biking, hiking, running, kayaking, or mountain climbing. Spend your week enjoying nature by day and curling up to the fireplace at night. Come to the Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor and see what Bernard and Bass Harbor Retreat has to offer..

About Leslie Becker

I am a Maine Registered Guides and know this island very well. I love living here and being able to use the home when I can. The beauty and surroundings are wonderful especially if you are active. I use to have a home in Bar Harbor- but found the noise and t-shirts for sale a bit overwhelming.. This town offers more activities and more local things to do - if that is your style from the art shop/homes, to Thurstons, famous - last lobster pound locally owned and operated in Maine

Why Leslie Becker chose Bass Harbor

hiking, biking, etc, acadia national park, plus I am a Maine Registered Guide and live and work can paddle every day- please do not get in the way of the lobstermen and women they have the right away. Make sure you have wet suits in Maine- the temp of the water never gets above about 45 in the summer - so do not fall in ! Best to be ACA OW here - due to our strong tides and more

What makes this house unique

watching real Maine, the lobstermen, the harbor, hike , bike, cross country skiing, running trails, acadia national park..

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for the view from the deck and the peacful sounds around the home. Our two Brittany Spaniels loved running from the front to the back. We have hiked everyday. There are so many places to go & so many different hikes from easy to difficult, obviously the dogs have slept well at night! We also climbed the Beech Mt. -beautiful sights from the top.

We had a great stay. Could have been warmer but not in anyone’s control

  • 5 of 5

The house is everything that we needed. We used the first floor and really didn’t need the second floor. The bed was very comfortable. The heat was needed and worked well Nautical theme thru-out the house. Never cooked at the house but seems to be well stocked with pots and pans as well as serving pieces. We were too early in the season to enjoy lobster pounds and the flowers are just peeking their heads thru the ground. Did enjoy our stay and met some very nice people.

Great Home ! Location is awesome..

  • 5 of 5

Nice location.. restaurants were open on this side- bar harbor - you could only find one .. really odd- but the locals live here - so alot more to do and alot more to find any time of year- fantastic skiing ! Glad I got to do that .. would love to come in summer as well.. Grilling out back was wonderful also in the firepit was nice.. ( once we shoveled the snow off it)

Very comfortable and alot of fun even when you did not leave the home.. just watching the lobster men go out each day . Need to find out where you bought those robes, they were great..

Perfect Location, Beautiful Home

  • 5 of 5

Perfect Location, Great home - the owner has thought of everything. Everything was in working order- the photos do not do the home justice. The home and the views are incredible. it was very relaxing, watching the boats go by with the fireplace. Hiking and great cross country skiing just a 1/2 mile away - Groceries even in snowy weather were only 15 minutes away and a wonderful kitchen to cook in ! You can tell this owner loves and maintains this home ... We will be back next year as well.... maybe before then . Thank you for taking our dogs- this was also an incredible piece of mind - with the fence - going around the home... Bet it is wonderful in summer as well..

Best Home on the Island !

  • 5 of 5

Great home ! A great value , we loved the location - even in the off season - because everything on this side is open- it is great to be in the middle of the local community and away fro the tourist area.. very relaxing- the dogs loved the fenced in yard ! thank you so much for opening your home to us - we will be back.. not that far from Bar harbor- but the restaurants here are better and less money- just an fyi to everyone else

Unwinding by the ocean

  • 5 of 5

A very lovely renovated old cottage by the sea. Everything was perfect. Nicely decorated. We were here Mid November so we loved the fireplace. Nice and warm and cozy. Well stocked kitchen with everything you need. Comfortable mattresses. We were here for lots of hiking and cottage is on far side of island so lots of driving but totally worth it. We walked next door to docks and bought lobster and crabs directly from lobstermen as we saw them come into dock. Sunrises over the harbor were beautiful. Because this is the side of the island working islanders live on, there were more options for food off season than on rest of island. House was very clean and well maintained. I was very appreciative of all the trail maps and books on the park since all visitor centers were closed. Strongly recommend this rental.
