'A 7 day Hawaiian vacation with my two daughters proved to be utterly spectacular while staying at 321 Shores. In the early mornings, we enjoyed Kona coffee (or hot chocolate) while relaxing on the tiled lanai in comfortable, padded lounge chairs. 321 is very spacious with windows galore! Uniquely enough, you get a lot of privacy because 321 is an end unit located on the 3rd floor. I enjoyed visiting the pool area at the Shores and taking advantage of the concierge services.

About A. J.

I moved to the Big Island from California twenty years ago and I've enjoyed every day here. The many large or small private beaches, the mountains, the great weather, the ocean, racing in large or small Hawaiian canoes, snorkeling along the reefs, horseback riding, fishing along the coast or hiking in the mountains, performances at the Kahilu Theatre in Waimea, all the fine restaurants, the farmers' markets, there is always something new and different to do.

Why A. J. chose Puako

I chose the Waikoloa/Kohala area for my home and the condos because of the great weather and the Waikoloa/Kohala beaches which are unsurpassed on the Big Island and certainly some of the best anywhere. I bought condos close to my home so that I can ensure that the condos and everything in them are in top condition at all times. Plus, I'm close by if needed for any reason, even if just to answer questions about the area or give directions, etc.

What makes this condo unique

I occasionally spend an evening or two at the condos because they're close to my home and to make sure that everything is as I would want it to be if I were a guest there.

Loved this place. Felt more and more comfortable the longer e stayed. (8 nights) Loved the comfy bed, tons of fluffy towels and everything else. So great to have everything provided and we used most of it.

The Shores housing complex at Waikoloa Resort on the Big Island of Hawaii are nicely located being close to beaches, shops and other amenities. The complex itself is becoming a bit dated but nevertheless the grounds are attractive and kept up nicely. There is a lovely swimming pool for residents of the Shores. Our unit owned by A.J. Di Mauro is on the 3rd floor and has a spacious and comfortable lanai with a great view of the mountains and terrain. The unit is well equipped, the bed is comfortable, and the shower is great, things we find make for a good stay. A.J. was very attentive to our needs and we would certainly rent there again should we have the opportunity. We found the unit to be good value for the money spent.

The condo was very spacious, clean, and comfortable. It had all the amenities that we needed including beach chairs, umbrella, and snorkel gear. The location was great and away from a lot of the crowds and traffic! I would highly recommend it!

Very Nice Place to Stay

A J's unit was perfectly located close to beaches, historical sites, beautiful sunsets, and shops. The unit was easily accessible for people with disabilities, comfortably furnished, and well equipped. The complex had ample parking and the grounds were well maintained. A J was very accommodating and helpful. We would definitely rent there again should we return to the Big Island.

For price paid unit is outdated

We stayed at The Shores #321 in Feb for 8 nights.

We felt for the price paid the unit was misrepresented. The interior was mismatched and outdated. The tile job in the bathroom was poor as was some of the paint and counter tops.

When AJ, the owner , heard about my review he called me. He asked why I had not contacted him when I was unhappy with the unit, stating he would have tried to place me somewhere else. I did not realize that was even an option.

AJ and I made a deal stating that if I removed the review he would refund part of my money. We agreed on $500. I removed the review that night and he put the check in the mail the next morning.

Three days later AJ emailed me and stated that he had talked to a Home Away manager and that they don't like owners paying people to remove reviews etc,and that it could be unlawful.

I felt then I had no choice except to put another review back on telling the whole story. If this truthful review never makes it to the site I will know that the whole system is rigged and they just take off negative reviews.

Our friends rented a one bedroom unit in the same building for the same price and it was gorgeous.

AJ did tell me that he had some people coming to fix some of the things I was talking about, but they really should have been fixed before continuing to rent the unit.

Owner's Response: I suppose that after 18 years of having satisfied and happy guests and very positive reviews I should expect that just the luck of the draw would result in a guest and reviewer who is just angry at the world. I spent over $35,000 over the summer/fall of 2016 to upgrade this condo including tearing out the bathroom and replacing it with travertine marble and vessel sinks. My guests since the remodel, including repeat guests, have been appreciative and have thanked me for the new bathroom. As is my habit I phoned this guest right after her arrival, during her stay and before departure just to check that everything was OK and that there were no issues. During her stay this guest never complained about anything and all was "OK". When she later posted her first review I learned that this reviewer, who claims to be an expert on all construction matters, was upset and claimed that not all grout widths in the bathroom were exactly and perfectly the same. I had also installed the latest trend in kitchen counters, an epoxy finish in abstract design. The reviewer had never seen that type of counter and so was also unhappy with that. And so on. I called her to ask about her first review and within two minutes she demanded $500 to delete her first negative review and also offered to post a positive review instead for that $500. So much for the sincerity and validity of her issues. HomeAway then nixed the extortion plan as being contrary to their guidelines. At this point all I can do is continue to offer a comfortable and clean place to stay in a great location at a reasonable price and hope that future guests, as have many guests in the past, will appreciate what I provide.
