Beautiful cottage with lots of character
We stayed in July 2019. The cottage was immaculately clean and tidy and looks brand new inside. Had a meal in the garden which was very nice - surrounded by trees. The owner was really friendly and overall the stay exceeded our expectations - thanks!
Our family of five loved our stay at Sarah’s cottage. We all had plenty of room. Property is newly renovated and is very clean. Highly recommend this rental!
It was such a pleasure to host you and the family; thank you for taking the trouble to write your lovely review. You were fabulous guests and delighted that you enjoyed our cottage!
Clean and tidy cottage
We enjoyed the newness and the quality furnishings etc. It was comfortable and well equipped and the owner was pleasant to deal with. Wifi could have used a boost, and we would have liked to know that it was a semi-detached house as we felt we had to keep the kids quiet which wasn’t ideal.
Thank you for your kind review; we’re glad you enjoyed the house but very sorry to hear that you felt you had to keep the children quiet; there was absolutely no need - you were such lovely guests and your children delightful. As you know, the cottage is entirely self-contained with private amenities and a private garden. We do make it clear in our terms and conditions, which you signed on booking and returned to us, that there is an adjoining property and that the driveway provides shared vehicular access. I’m sorry if this in any way detracted from your holiday because we try incredibly hard to make our guests as comfortable and happy as possible and you didn’t mention this during your stay. Regarding the WiFi booster we have not had feedback of this nature from other guests and would appreciate it if you could let us know whereabouts in the house you experienced issues so we might improve it for future guests, thank you.
Comfortable cottage a little out of the way
We had a pleasant, comfortable stay in the cottage which was located on a busy road about a 15 minute walk to Ashtead village where the closest shops are located. The last 50 meters of the walk has no sidewalks so you are forced to walk on the road. Cars will slow down for you if they see you, so be sure to walk on outside of bends. We felt uncomfortable taking our 8 and 11 year old kids on the walk more than once. We didn't hire a car so we used Uber to get to and from the Train Stations, each time warning the driver to pull off into the gated driveway where we would meet them near the road.
The hosts were very pleasant to work with. When we arrived they had only two bedrooms set up but they set up the third when we asked for our children to each have their own room. The hosts provided the minimum consumables such as toilet paper for our arrival, but we were expected to supply whatever we needed when that initial supply ran out. We needed get our own personal items such bar soap for the shower and tissues. We were asked to have all dishes and kitchen items put away before we left. Our visit was similar in staying in a guest house, rather than a hotel, where we were asked to make as little work as possible for the host.
We were visiting family in Ashtead and this cottage worked out very well for us, and we appreciated our opportunity to stay in this cottage. Ashtead is a lovely quiet town close to London and a lovely place to visit.
Thank you for your comments and we’re really glad you enjoyed your stay.
As you know, the house is an old, Victorian cottage, situated on a 30pmh lane which encircles historic Ashtead Park. Although there is no footpath along the first short stretch of the road, there is a verge off the road itself which can be used to walk along until the pavement is reached for the vast majority of the journey on foot. The lack of footpath means that the cottage enjoys both a rural location surrounded by fields, yet is within striking distance of all the amenities the village has to offer, such as pubs and a Marks and Spencer foodhall, amongst other things.
As with the majority of hosts providing homes for holiday lets, we are committed to providing our guests with the essentials to start their stay with us. We always ensure there’s enough supplies to see a guest through the first day or two - washing up liquid, hand soap in the bathrooms, kitchen surface spray, a few dishwasher tablets, salt, pepper, tea, coffee, sugar, bin liners in all the bins, milk in the fridge and toilet roll - all linen and towels are also provided. Beyond this, items such as shower gel we feel are entirely the choice of the individual staying. Indeed as you say, we aren’t a hotel and our rental prices reflect that, providing excellent value for money and a ‘home from home’.
With regards check-out. Thank you for the efforts you made toward helping us with our request to try and leave the cottage as you found it. Carrying out small tasks such as removing rubbish to the outside bins provided and putting kitchen items back where they belong before leaving, really helps us. In order to return the cottage to the very high standard of cleanliness we aim for on changeover day, it takes us the full period of time between guests checking out and new guests checking in to clean the cottage from top to bottom and provide a full linen change, so we are incredibly grateful when guests assist with these small requests.
Sarah is such a welcoming and accommodating host. She has an easy smile, a warm setting and attention to detail that really made the experience so smooth and enjoyable. The house is impeccably put together. Carpet is so soft your feet sink in and the sofa just makes you want to live there. Beautiful setting, brand new, crisp linens and power shower. This property is a real find. Thank you for all your kindness and care x
