About the property

3 Beds, 3 baths, sleeps 6, stunning country location yet close to activities

Large, comfortable villa with private pool and fantastic panoramic views to the coast. Sitting in beautiful unspoilt countryside, with crops of citrus fruits, avocado, mangoes and olives, the area is peaceful and secluded, but not isolated with other villas within close walking distance. The villa is set in the middle of land, on a hillside, with uninterrupted views to the coastline stretching from Portimao to Albufeira. This is the perfect place for a wonderful holiday away from all the crowds, yet within a short driving distance of beaches, water parks and high quality golf courses. The villa is roomy and cool in summer with ceiling fans in all rooms and mosquito closings on all doors and windows. Patio doors open from the lounge and dining room to a large shaded terrace; ideal for 'al fresco' dining on freshly cooked food from the static barbeque, or sitting enjoying a good book. The pool is secluded and wonderful for a cool dip or just relaxing on the loungers drinking in the view.

The villa has three bedrooms, with two on the ground floor and the large master bedroom is upstairs with its own bathroom and private terrace.

A truly relaxing holiday: This is the place to take a real breather away from the hectic everyday lifestyle. You will love the pool, the fresh air and the freedom of having so much space to call your own. If you want to taste the bustle of the water parks or beaches then they are within close distance. If you are a family or a group of friends, you will quickly become enamoured by the tranquil, relaxing atmosphere and you can enjoy exploring the surrounding areas as much or as little as you like. There is plenty to see if you wish, but you don't need an excuse to just take it easy. ( For the very energetic a trip to Lisbon could be on the cards - just two and half hours away). Whatever your choice you will find that our spacious airy villa will give plenty of room for everyone.

For those who want to keep in touch with home there is satellite television with a wide range of English programmes and free wifi can keep you up to date with your e-mail. Or relax by the pool in total privacy and let the rest of the world go by.

Enjoy the real Portugal: There is another Portugal away from the busy coastal resorts. This has a slower pace of life with friendly local people living a life they have lived for generations before them. They may be the farmers growing the oranges, or the nomadic shepherds with their goats, or even the gypsies we often see with their handsome horses driving on the roads. Visiting the local travelling monthly market could give you a chance to see them all. And then of course there is the food and the wine! Wonderful fresh fish - you know about Sardines, but try Dourado you'll love it and the wine is really good at a price you will find amazingly cheap. Come and enjoy!

Peaceful stay with wonderful view

  • 5 of 5

The house itself lies quite atop a hill, providing a wonderful view towards the distant ocean. Sitting in the evening on the terrace was one of our favourite moments while there.

Children (ok, also adults) loved the swimming pool - it is conveniently located not at the very doorstep of the house, but some steps below, thereby providing some security for always running toddler - also a little gate ensures that he could not get directly to the pool.

House is huge. We were altogether 3 adults and 3 children and never had to queue for getting to the bathroom. Kitchen has all the necessary utensils, but we used also the grill to make some food outside.

It is nice to have your own road leading up to the house - so, if you spot a car coming up, then you know that you are definitely having some visitor :)

We were kindly asked to feed the cat, who was supposed to be living somewhere on the premises. However, we unintentionally domesticated a dog, who loyally followed us to the "centre" of the village some 5 km away and back... whereby the cat obviously took offence and did not show up for the days we were staying. I hope he returned afterwards...

The place is really nice and has everything any vacationer needs, however it would definitely benefit from having some more greenery around. But obviously Portuguese sun is strong and it takes what it takes to keep the place green also in summer months.

Now it is already winter, but when I remember the long evenings on the terrace with wine glass in hand, I am longing to get back.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review Ilze. Very pleased that you enjoyed your stay. The news on your "adopted" dog is that he eventually decided to go home. He was obviously not a stray, as he was in very good condition and just enjoyed your company. Our cat, who is feral and never comes in the house, but arrives to be fed and has been coming for 17 years, did return when the dog disappeared. I can see how your Latvian cold winters made you think of your sunny days in the Algarve. We look forward to seeing you again sometime. Best wishes for a happy 2017. Iris

excellent house, pool and views

  • 5 of 5

This property was above all spotlessly clean and well equipped. It had all the mod cons that go to make a home from home - the television even had BBC northern ireland. The rooms were ample size and there was plenty of room throughout the house. The pool was bigger than I thought it would be and was regularly serviced by Tommy who along with Julie the 'caretaker' of the house ended up doubling as our tourist guides in respect of local attractions. Julie came and changed the beds and provided fresh linen and showed us the pool lights for a night time dip. I cant find anything negative to say about this property except that I don't own it myself. 2 weeks is possibly not long enough.

Beautiful villa

  • 5 of 5

This is the second visit to this villa. It is in a beautiful setting, quiet and peaceful. The villa is very well equipped with everything you could need for a fab holiday, but still retains a homely feel and not just a rented property it has a warmth and you know it is also a home. It is close to silves an easy drive with everything you need from supermarket, a fruit/veg/fish indoor market and lots of restaurants. Also easy to get to beaches both busy and quiet. The owner Iris has always been very helpful and friendly in our transactions. Will visit again and highly recommend.

Quiet and peaceful...

  • 4 of 5

Monte Nora - a pleasant and quiet place, a clean and well maintained and equipped house and a very friendly and helpful custumer service. After some weeks in which we had to deal with very severe private problems, we found the perfect place to rest and find some deflection.

A great villa close to Silves

  • 5 of 5

This was our second visit to Monte Nora. Having stayed one week in 2014, we immediately booked this years two week stay on our return. The villa is well situated being close to the 'developed strip' but looking down onto it - and perhaps half an hours drive to many of the beaches and attractions (you do need a vehicle to get the most from your stay). The villa is kept spotlessly clean, and the garden and pool well maintained. It comes with everything you could want for your stay. Silves is the nearest town and has supermarkets and restaurants as well as a health centre and pharmacy, should the need arise.

Silves is an historic centre that shouldn't be missed, but then there is so much to see - even the reservoirs to the north are worth a visit.

We went east to the Spanish Border (VR de S Antonio, and took a train ride from there to Faro return), looked in on the villages of Tavira and Olhao, a little bit of Faro, Loule (and the markets), a tour of the hills north of Loule taking in Alte and Salir - not all on the same day I hasten to add.

We went as far west as Praia da Luz, took the boat around the rocks of Ponta da Piedade, saw Alvor, spent time on the beach at Praia da Rocha, visited Ferragudo and Carvoeiro, the Algarve Shopping complex and Albufeira!

We would recommend the villa to friends and relatives and would have no hesitation in returning, but feel we must also visit other countries!!

Situated between Silves and Messines. Silves is just a short drive away and as well as providing a number of sites of historical interest it has plenty of good restaurants and shops including a large supermarket, and a daily market for fruit and freshly caught fish. Several quality golf courses, including a brand new one in Silves, are all a short drive. There are a number of restaurants dotted around the countryside which make good Portuguese meals and give visitors a chance to savour the 'real' Portugal and the prices are considerably cheaper than on the busy coast. The beaches of Armacao de Pera, Carvoeiro and Gale are about twenty minutes drive away, as are the water parks and Zoomarine. However most people just love to be at the villa by the pool. Interesting places to visit such as Monchique, Lagos and Sagres are less than an hour away and there are all sorts of little villages dotted about which are fun to visit. About a forty minute drive from the airport on a good motorway.

Changeover day is Sunday.
