Overview

Saint-Siffret Villa Rental Photos and Description

3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, Sleeps 8

The villa has three beautiful double bedrooms at one end of the house and a fourth sleeping area with a comfortable sofa bed to sleep two adults on a mezzanine floor overlooking the dining room. Each bedroom is well furnished including built in cupboards for hanging and storage purposes. Two bedrooms have double beds and the third two single beds. There is a large bathroom with toilet and a separate shower room. A second toilet is located in the laundry room below the mezzanine. There is a medium sized fully equiped kitchen with table and four chairs. The bright and spacious living room leads out through patio doors to the veranda and terrace and also extends into a large dining area and adjacent laundry room. The mezzanine is situated above the laundry room. Outside the dining room there is a BBQ area with portable charcoal burning barbecue. The villa is attractively furnished and decorated throughout. Parking is available for one car within the grounds but there is additional parking alongside the property.

The area is perfect for swimming and canoeing in the Gardon at Collias (20 mins drive away) and at the Gorges de l'Ardeche which is an hour and a half's drive. The Gorges offer an unforgettable experience not only with the canoeing but also from the scenic drive around the area. It is always best to travel from West to East along the road overlooking the Gorges as this provides the best viewing and easy stop off points for photos.

Uzes itself is a photographer's paradise. There are photos to be taken around every corner. The Saturday market is a must - you will not be disappointed but best to get there early before the crowds. The surrounding villages will entrace you. The village of St Siffret is a delight to walk around. Try not to miss out on the fortified village of Lussan set high up on a hill with its 180 degree views of the surrounding countrside, Gourdagues with its canal and the quaint medieval village of La Roques sur Ceze .

The villa is also ideally situated using a back road via St Maximin (an attractive village in its own right) to get to the Commercial Centre outside of Uzes (8 min drive) where there is a large Carrefour and other superstores. On a clear day, this road offers splendid views to the far off hills of the Cevennes. Incidentally, do not miss out on the fantastic value for money luncheon menus at Carrefour. Maybe not an obvious tourist attraction but for feeding a large hungry family, it can't be beaten for quality, venue and service.

Back at the villa, its quiet, private but not isolated position offers a lovely refuge for the tired sightseer. The pool, attractively positioned amongst the olive trees, will add enormously to the enjoyment of your holiday. At the back of the garden there is a quiet patio with table, chairs and parasol for any member of your party keen to enjoy a quiet moment on their own.

In order to keep the garden tidy, a gardener will come once every 10 days or so principally to mow the lawn. The pool will be cleaned and monitored once a week.

About Rupert Wiles

Following my early retirement in 1999, I have been living in Chiswick ( West London) but spend a few months every year in Australia and New Zealand where I have close family connections. I am also fortunate enough to have a family cottage in the Cotswolds where I spend most weekends.

I come to France and the villa with members of my family several times in the year but principally in the Spring and late Summer

Rupert Wiles purchased this villa in 2009

Why Rupert Wiles chose Uzes - Pont du Gard

I loved the location of this villa the moment I saw it. It is situated on top of a hill with attractive views of the surrounding countryside around the quaint village of St Siffret. It is quiet and private. The garden with its beautiful olive trees and oleanders together with the pool are both the right size to manage. I was also very much attracted to the crazy paving that surrounds the property. The distribution and size of the rooms within the villa provide a great sense of space.

What makes this villa unique

The property is enclosed by a high wall which provides excellent security. The villa is positioned equally between the Zone Commerciale to the west of Uzes and the centre of Uzes itself. So you have a great choice of destination with little traffic to contend with.

Collias is great for canoeing spent a lot of time along the river on the little beaches .

Beautiful French escape in a peaceful location

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a fantastic week in 'Olivettes'. Despite mixed weather we enjoyed the heated pool everyday. This was the highlight for the children.

The villa itself is spacious and well equipped, we cooked evening meals frequently and enjoyed BBQ's on the terrace. The restaurant, l'authentic, in St Siffret was lovely and we enjoyed a delicious evening meal there that was reasonably priced.

The local area is beautiful and there is lots to explore. We took bikes with us and enjoyed the off road bike tracks to Uzes. The local markets are great and sitting in the square in Uzes enjoying great food and wine is a must.

Within an hour's drive, we visited the 'Camargue', and the aquarium at le Grau-du-Roi, which is great for kids.

There is certainly lots do do in the area. Alternatively if you want to relax by the pool and enjoy the sun, this is a great villa to be able to do this.

We will definately return in the near future.

Lovely. well-equipped house in excellent location

  • 5 of 5

Lovely house, very clean, nicely furnished and decorated and well-equipped. It looked good in the pictures, but was even better when we got there. Must mention in particular the bathrooms; beautifully done with showers that provide endless hot water at a good pressure (not always the case in a holiday home!), they were the best we have experienced. The house felt very spacious for our party of 6, and our teenage daughter particularly enjoyed the privacy of her own space in the mezzanine. The garden is a good mix of sun and shade, so you can always find just the right spot! The dining table under the mulberry tree was particularly good. The pool was lovely and very welcome in some very hot temperatures.

The house is very well located. St Siffret is a beautiful old village, with a useful epicierie a short drive away, and a bar/restaurant (L'Authentic - thoroughly recommended for excellent food and great service) just a stroll down the hill. There's a useful Carrefour a 5 minute drive away at Uzes too. Many attractions are close by - Pont du Gard, Nimes, Arles, Avignon, to name a few. We also particularly enjoyed the Saturday market and lunch at Uzes.

The owner and his agents in France were helpful and friendly, and could not have done more for us.

We had a great holiday here and were sorry to leave. We would thoroughly recommend this house, and plan to return in the future.

Beautiful villa in a lovely unspoilt area

  • 5 of 5

We were very impressed with the villa and it's facilities especially the pool and garden. We arrived in Avignon by the new direct eurostar from london, St. Siffret is just a short drive away. There were four in our party but the villa could easily accommodate eight without feeling cramped, there are lots of areas around the garden and pool to relax in. The old village of St. Siffret is also very quaint and interesting. The drive to the sea at Le Grau-du-Roi took about one hour or so where we visited the Sea Aquarium, there are lots of touristy shops and a good beach, but we thought it probably wasn't worth the drive as the areas around the villa are so nice. We've recommended it to all our friends and relatives and hope to visit again in the future

Fantastic stay!!

  • 5 of 5

My three daughters and I had a fabulous week at Les Olivettes. The property is superb in every respect - the villa, the gardens, the pool....all wonderful. We were also blessed with spectacular weather! Already wishing we were back there!!! I would absolutely recommend this property to anyone looking for a comfortable and quiet and secluded get-away yet still well-placed for Uzes and Avignon and in simply spectacular countryside.

Spacious, comfortable and thoroughly relaxing !

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful six week stay at Les Olivettes in May and June, 2013. The property is surprisingly spacious, beautifully maintained, well equipped and is quite private. Everything works and the property is very lovingly presented. The pool is great with the outdoor areas and garden being an enjoyable bonus. If the surrounding countryside and villages weren't so beautiful you could easily just settle in and not leave the property, except to buy food and wine of course. Highly recommended !!

St Siffret is a quiet and charming ancient village with its own supermarket and two quality restaurants nearby. From the village you can enjoy lovely views of the surrounding hills. Our villa is situated on a small hill above the village and only 4 kms from Uzes, a renowned medieval town with a population of around 8,300. The town hosts one of the most colourful markets in the South of France and offers charming streets, cafes, restaurants and two museums to delight children of all ages. It is situated about 20 miles from Nimes and 30 miles from Avignon. The attractive town of Montpellier with its open and pedestrianised shopping centre is a mere hour's drive away.

There is plenty to see and do in the area including the magnificent Pont du Gard, the Roman amphitheatres of Nimes and Arles, the Palace of the Popes at Avignon and the fortified town of Aigues Mortes and the region of the Camargues. The river Gardon and the Gorges de L'Ardeche offer good swimming and canoeing. Cycles can be hired in nearby St Quentin La Poterie so as to explore the multitude of attractive villages in the area; and there are also walking and horse riding facilities
