La Bergerie is a stroll from the village restaurant, commerces and medieval centre.
Whatever your holiday dreams, the location of La Bergerie can fulfill them.
Le Pouget is steeped in history. Its' medieval centre hosts an vibrant street festival of music, theatre, food and wine in mid-August. In the surrounding hills ancient ruins overlook the village and beside the children's farm there is an ancient Dolmen.
The dinosaur museum at Mèze hosts many remains of dinosaurs and eggs found in the region but if that's going back a bit too far in history for you why not head up the nearby A 75 to the templar village of La Couvertoirade.
Why not pass a Sunday morning at Mèze. ( 24km) Soak up the atmosphere of the lively market and then head back to a little port-side café and watch the world go by Then head off to nearby Bouzigues and take a guided tour of the oyster beds followed by a tasting.
Or why not hire a boat at Agde and head-off down the Canal du Midi for an afternoon. For children there's funparks and amusements of Cap d'Agde.
If this all a little too calm for you head off to the rapids in the gorges north of the historical and picturesque St Guilhem le Desert (16km).Or hire your watersports equipement at the Lac du Salagou ( 19km). Mountain bikes are also available to hire to explore the strange copper-coloured landscape that surrounds the lake.
The historical market towns of Clermont L'herault ( 7km) and Pezenas are close-by (18km) the pottery village of St Jean de Fos now boasts a great museum and hosts a great pottery market every August.
Late summer and early autumn the village is animated by the harvesting of the grapes. The heady odours waft over to the gîte and the village streets are stained red with the overspill of the convoy to the cave .Down at the cave you can witness the initial crushing of the grapes in enormous vats. The village is set in the midst of vineyards and the autumn foliage on the vines is a breathtaking mixture of red, yellow and orange. The village has many beautiful hilltop walks with panoramic views of the L'Hérault countryside.
On the first two sundays of March the village hosts a magnificent carnaval with enormous, colourful floats pulled by the winegrower's tractors.
Thanks to the village location of La Bergerie a taste of real french village life is on the doorstep. However due to its' calm setting in large gardens La Bergerie is also a haven of peace.
Upon arrival at La Bergerie the on-sight owners will provide you with a welcome pack to make sure that you make the most of this beatiful, varied region. You are assured of privacy in your independant gîte but can be reassured that they are happy to help you with any of your queries such as babysitting services, doctors, etc.
Bonnes vacances!
We retired in France to be near our daughter and grand-daughter.
Michelle, our daughter , heard about this house on the 'grapevine'! It was hiding away in an abandoned overgrown garden. We've been very busy renovating it and putting in the pool. Never a dull moment!
We don't regret moving here for a minute.
We love welcoming our guests, going to Montpellier or the market in Mèze by the sea, on Sunday mornings. We often.pop over the border to Spain and we never get bored following our daughter's ineteresting musical career in the region. You can't beat sitting out on the terrace on a summer's evening listening to the crickets and unusual birdsong.. Life is good!
Fintan and Patricia Lalor purchased this apartment in 2009
We chose Le Pouget , like our daughter, for it's great situation. It's in the centre of all the best that the region has to offer: coastline, mountains, gorges, lakes, city - everything is just a short hop away but meanwhile there are wonderful walks surrounding the village. The village has plenty of amenties, so if you want a lazy break you really don't have to move your car all holiday!
Furthermore, if you are a keen cyclist , like our daughter, you will be spoilt choice .Michelle , regularly heads off for 100km treks up and down the local peaks and she has a great knowledge of the best cycling routes that this beautiful, varied region has to offer all year round.
We fell in love with la Bergerie as soon as the owner swung the gates open and we looked up the long, treelined driveway. A secret garden in the centre of the village! It was love at first sight!
Together with our four children, aged 9-16, we spent three weeks as guests of pat and Fintan in the charming village of Le pouget.
The accomodation was excellant, the pool proved to be wonderful and Le pouget itself was an ideal location from which to explore the region.
Pat and Fintan were excellant hosts, warm and welcoming and available whenever needed for advice or directions in relation to sites, activities and shopping;
We would love to return and are recommending the venue to our family and friends.
Can not say enough about how lovely our time was, from the moment we arrived to our departure the hospitality was amazing and the cottage itself has everything you could possibly need and maybe more, we can not wait to go back. A rare gem .
Brilliant stay and charming family. We loved it! Thank you to the Lalors!

Our family had a wonderful holiday, weather was fantastic, location was excellent. So much to see and do in this remarkable area. Walking, canoeing, sightseeing aplenty. Food great but perhaps more expensive than we had first thought.
The property was excellent and we were well looked after by Pat Fentan and Michelle. The outside eating area and the BBQ were our favourites with evening meals not starting until after 8 o'clock and lasting until after 10! Beware the mossies though!!! The pool at the rear of the property kept the sun until nearly 9.00pm and was a very relaxing area with sunbeds, chairs and a handy table. The toilet and shower room was very modern and met our needs. There was ample space and the kitchen provided all you should need but perhaps a large bread knife and some larger glasses would noy have gone amiss.
Saturday market in Pezanas is verytraditional but the small artisan shops there are exceptional. Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert was another stand out destination but very busy at weekends, great place to book your canoe trips. Exceptional walks at Cirque de Navacelles and Cirque de Moureze but beware the late afternoon heat it easily got into the mid 40's.
I would definately go back.
Owners were very friendly and helpful. They booked in advance for us a Christmas lunch at a lovely local restaurant. The place was very warm, and well equipped, including English TV, and DVD player. The bed was large and comfortable, and excellent large shower. We would definitely stay their again if in the area.
We absolutely loved our 12 days at La Bergerie &, as the temperature when we arrived was something like 42C, we really appreciated the 10 metre pool where we spent a lot of time the first few days as had no energy in the extreme heat to do much else.
The pool is now far better shaded & tiled than appears in this accompanying picture and is a very comfortable place to spend the afternoon with a good book and a swim every half hour or so.
The gite itself is excellent with a very well equipped kitchen and a vital (for us) outdoor BBQ as we mostly ate outside in the evening when it was cool enough to do so. And very few, if any, mozzies! We got only a couple of minor bites whilst we were here despite me being usually a mozzie-magnet & an extreme reactor.
The bed was fabulous! Large and firm & although we had the fan on most nights as the temperature was high, we slept amazingly well - better than at home. Fan noise was a bit like sleeping on a plane with a background engine noise which is somehow lulling. The shower was also excellent. I dream of a shower as good as this in my own home.
We have stayed in this area 4 or 5 times now over the last 10 years (but not at La Bergerie before) & it never ceases to fascinate. Interesting cities like Montpellier, Narbonne, Sete, Agde, etc. within painless driving distance. Interesting towns like Meze, Clermont l'Herault, Pezenas nearby but also amazing geoligical formations. You can look them all up in your guide book. Pont de Diable is my favourite swimming as you can swim for kilometres down river very calmly. Lac de Salagou also amazing swimming but can get quite rough when windy.
Most of all, we appreciated the company of the Lalor family, Fintan, Pat, Michelle & Charlotte, who own this gite. We usually go for very private places with no contact with the owners but think the Lalors may have changed our minds on this! We very much enjoyed our conversations with them and the ease with which they accept total strangers into their lives.
EVEN IF, they didn't have their gorgeous dog Nala, the black Labrador, we would come back here. We can't have a dog ourselves so Nala was the perfect holiday dog. Never over-presumptuous but very interested, in a non-pushy way, in our evening BBQs. Well, OK, quite pushy when meat was involved.
I am sure we will be back.

We had a lovely stay with Patricia and Fintan (and not forgetting Nala). The gite was just as described, well equipped, clean and beautifully maintained. Our children (14 and 10) had great fun in the pool and the village of Le Pouget, boasted a local restaurant whose food was hard to beat. The surrounding countryside, particularly St Guilhem, was well worth a visit. The local markets, including Meze, are all there within a 30 min drive and must do. A fantastic holiday, relaxing but with plenty of places to visit should you want to, with friendly hosts who were there when you needed to ask advice. Highly recommended.
A traditional wine producing village, Le Pouget is located in the heart of the tourist region of L'Herault.
The gite is a 5 min stroll from the restaurant, bar, bakers, chemist and doctors and the spiralling medieval centre that hosts a festival in the summer.
A mecca for walkers and birdwatchers, the village has a children's farm and a family- run riding school.
This corner of L'hérault really is one of the best for all-year round cycling.
For cycling enthusiasts, the owners' daughter Michelle is a racing cyclist and she able to provide information about the best bike routes ( fabulous choice), local cycling challenges and a good local repair, maintenance bike specialist .
The market towns of Pezenas (18km) and Clermont l'Herault (7km) are nearby.
For watersports the Lac du Salagou (19km) or the gorges of St Guilhem Le Desert (16km) offer equipment and courses and the varied coastline is within easy reach : the fishing town of Mèze (24km) the bustling port of Sète (30km) or the tourist centre of Cap d'Agde (45km).
The cosmopolitan city, Montpellier (30km) has something to offer all ages. Why not park and take the tram in?
For music and art lovers, surrounding villages ( St Guilhem, St Jean de Fos, Pezenas) host events throughout the year.
Will you have enough time to fit it all in ?!
