Built in 1850 this barn was lovingly converted into a modern living accomodation in 2007.
It consists of two double bedrooms, two bathrooms (one with a shower, and one with bath tub & shower), a fully equipped open-plan kitchen and a living-room with cathedral ceiling and a log fire.
Surrounded by fields and forests, with a spacious und sunny garden, terrace and big parking area, La Vernatrie offers everything you need for a relaxing holiday in one of the most beautiful areas of France.
I fell in love with the beautiful area of Touraine about 15 years ago and converting this lovely stone barn into a holiday home has been a wonderful and rewarding project.
I try to spend as much time at la Vernatrie as possible. And while I'm back in Bochum, Germany to work in my job as a lecturer at a vocational college it gives me great pleasure to know that the house is not empty, but that it is being enjoyed by people from different parts of the world, who will hopefully feel as much at home there as I do.
Britta Sporkmann purchased this house in 2007
The cottage is situated in a very quiet, rural location but has the advantage of being a 15 minute drive from Loches where all amenities are available. It is a perfect base for exploring the Loire valley , but with the garden and patio area also great if you just want to "chill out" for a few days .The cottage is furnished to a very high standard and Britta was very helpful throughout with timely communications from our initial enquiry to after our holiday and there is plenty of information provided on tourist attractions , restaurants and the amenities available in the cottage.
Highly recommended - thanks again Britta .
First of all apologies for waiting so long to write this review but now I'm planning my next holiday I often think back to our wonderful stay at La Vernaterie. The Loire Valley is simply beautiful and your stunning cottage takes full advantage of its surroundings. Clean, spacious and well equipped, it perfectly accomodated our family of four. Great location with plenty to do and see. Britta facilitated an easy and stress free holiday from beginning to end. One small thing I would suggest is a fan in each bedroom as temperatures were very high during the summer season (oh and a hot tub if you've got any spare money 😋) otherwise perfection 😃.

We enjoyed our stay at La Vernaterie very much, it was perfect! Very clean and cosy house with a romantic garden, with roses out of the bedroom, lavendel around and lots of raspberries for everyday breakfast outside! Nice and cool in the house when its warm outside. Perfect for a couple or family who search for tranquillity. Everything you think of is available in the kitchen and house. Lots of space. Location easy to find and good descriptions given. We loved the nearby City of Loches, specially the market on Saturday and Wednesday morning! A must! We would definitely recommend this property! Thanks Britta for such a relaxing week:-) Regards Andrea and Roger
La Vernatrie is a lovely cottage, situated in a rural and tranquil location. Just right for a relaxing holiday, yet within easy reach of places of interest and delightful towns providing everything we needed. The property is very well equipped and is obviously regularly visited by the owner, as her personal touches were very evident. We had a wonderful holiday and would recommend this property to others seeking a quality cottage in a peaceful setting.
Right from making the initial enquiry through to putting the key in the lock for the last time, the service and quality of product provided has been absolutely first class. As you will see from the photos provided the house is set in the French countryside and other than a few agricultural vehicles going past your stay will be undisturbed. Such is the tranquility of the area we had a number of sightings of deer ( 2 of which jumped across the front of the car on the next road along from the house) an eagle swooping on a nearby lake, a fox helping himself to his tea from a rabbit burrow, a sparrowhawk sitting on the telegraph pole at the rear of the house and the "piece de le resistance" a wild boar sitting beside a field of sunflowers as we travelled back home one night.
A sheet of useful hints and tips is provided on arrival which was very welcome. The basket of brochures gives a huge range of places to visit and activities on hand.
The quality of the accommodation is outstanding with 2 double bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and huge fully equipped kitchen and a large lounge. Outside you will find a large patio with comfortable table and chairs and 2 sunloungers - the patio gets the benefit of the sun right through to the end of the day. A nice bonus was tomatoes on the vine, rhubarb unfortuantely not quite ready for us and numerous berry bushes.
It was perfect for us as we wanted a complete getaway - however civilisation is only a 15 min drives away to Loches which has everything you need including a range of restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets.
Go on treat yourself!!
We had a really amazing holiday at La Vernatrie, it's a lovely little cottage in beautiful surroundings and it was just the relaxing place we had hoped for when we booked. We thought that it was beautifully furnished and had all the equipment we needed for us as a couple. I particularly loved cooking on the induction hob and we had lots of lovely meals sitting outside looking out over the countryside in the sunshine. We felt very welcome and the beds were comfy, the showers clean and modern, the decor wonderful and we couldn't have wished for anything more.
