My name is Simona, I was born in Florence in the 1958, where I have studied.
In the past I have worked for Fashion Magazines, Interior Decoration, Design and I lived in Paris and Milan for many years. Now I am living in Florence where I am working in the Yoga field.
Simona Vanzetto purchased this house in 1994
I have bought this property because many years ago, when I have visited Casentino, I felt in love with the place. I am an industrial Archeology lover and my house is a part of the charming Stia’s Wool Mill complex made up of several buildings. I like nature too and this part of Tuscany has a beautiful nature, wild an uncontaminated. I like walking, running and mountain-biking in the forest of the National Park, swimming in the river during Summer time and skiing during the winter. I love to feel the energy of the Mother Earth, I don't like tourist places.
My WOOL MILL HOUSE OF STIA is not a typical house, is a very special place. I like its huge spaces. It is my refuge. I can stay hours just reading a book in the living room, sipping the silence, enjoying its light changing colours and intensity during the day.
I also love playing the piano in the lobby with the entrance door open letting people walking in the street come in.
But my favorite thing is to spend time at THE WOOL MILL HOUSE OF STIA with my whole family and my friends. Some times, during the summer holidays, we arrive after having spent the whole day hiking in the woods and swimming in the river Arno with its cold and refreshing water, and at the evening we love eating together sitting around the big table eating fresh vegetables bought from the farmer who lives here near the park,
We stayed at the Wool Mill in September and could not have been happier with our choice. The house is just adorable - no other word for it! It was so welcoming and just feels good. There are many very good restaurants in the area. Our hosts were fantastic! We loved the the comfort of the house. It is quite amazing - we would go back tomorrow if we could. Grazie!
We have enjoyed a fantastic three weeks at the Wool of Mill of Stia and would thoroughly recommend this as a wonderful location for exploring Tuscany, but equally as a relaxing base in its own right.
We thoroughly recommend this property as an ideal holiday location.
It has been one of our favorite houses we have ever been before! The owner makes you feel like being at home. She always helped if anything was needed. We have been staying at the house for one week and we are waiting to come back again. Awesome. The house is very clean and it has everything you need. Thank you very much for the special days we have spent at the Wool Mill of Stia. We´ll Never forget this week!
In the cute village of Stia we stayed for three weeks in a holidayhome with the sizes of a castle: 350 m2! It was clean, quiet and everything was in there: completer is simply impossible. The disadvantage of the lack of a garden is more than enough compensated by a very nearby park. The houseowner and her daughters were helpful at any time to solve upcoming questions. A perfect spot from where you can discover Tuscany; even a trip to the Adreatic sea is easy to be done.
Simona's two level apartment with it's high ceilings is light, airy and spacious. It is well provisioned for entertaining. Along with two friends from the UK, my wife and I who are Australian and on our first visit to Italy thoroughly enjoyed our time in Stia.
It was very hard to move on at the end of the week. From our arrival through to our departure Simona was the perfect hostess. Her personal greeting (with her daughter) was terrific after our drive from Rome's Airport. She organised a booking at a local restaurant for dinner and pointed us in the right direction to purchase supplies for next morning's breakfast. Her information on all the best local eating places and the best sightseeing opportunities were the icing on the cake!!
Stia is a great little village to experience life in Italy. Off the normal tourist trail it provides some unique opportunities to enjoy the delights of the "Real Italy" and it's sense of community. It is easily reached by car or train, the Regional Rail Service provides many opportunities to sightsee away from Stia without the hassle of driving.
The apartment was very clean and welcoming and we would recommend it to others who are looking for a restful break from the crowds in the larger Italian cities and major tourist centres.
Our family, myself, husband and two boys (4 & 7), enjoyed the most wonderful week in this gorgeous apartment. The space is generous and beautifully presented. The atmosphere bohemian and relaxed. The hostess and her husband warmly welcomed us and made us feel at ease, giving us great recommendations of places to eat, visit etc. There is no outside space attached, but this was not a problem as their is plenty of places to be outside in easy walking distance.
Wish could have bought flat home with us!!! Hope to stay again, loved the wool mill, loved Stia.

If you have never visited the Casentino area, located in the heart of Tuscany, and in one of the remaining few wild part of it, you will be pleasantly amazed of this small valley between Arezzo and Florence and behind the Appennino mountains.
Here history, art, spirituality and nature are combined together in a indissoluble particular way.
The nature in Casentino is still uncontaminated, with the National Park Forests that offers wonderful panoramas for the lovers of the nature, and sporting activity as the trekking or the mountain-biking for the most willing people.
Our house, THE WOOL MILL HOUSE OF STIA, is located in the tipical village of Stia, which is the first place of the Casentino Valley crossed by the Arno river after being born from the Falterona Mountain, on its way down to Florence.
The house that dates back to the 1800s, is a part of an historic wool mill that measures 54.000 square meters. Today the Mill has taken on a new life for the community as the Museum of Wool-Making where it keeps the memory of this antique tradition alive along with preserving the building where generations of Stians worked.
THE WOOL MILL HOUSE OF STIA overlooks the ancient village and the beautiful site of Palagio Fiorentino with his wonderful garden. Next to it you will also find a natural Park named Canto alla Rana, a proper environment to do pic-nic, walks, sport, where during the summer it is possible to swim in the waters of the Arno too.
To the slopes of the Falterona Mountain, the lovers of archaeology can visit the lake of the Idols, an ancient site of cult where is been recovered over 600 bronze figurines of the IV-III sec. B.C. Today many bronzes are at British Museum.
The history of the valley is very well known because of his many castles and medieval parishes and also because of the great centres of cult as the Monastery of Camaldoli, the Sanctuary of the Verna and the Abbey of Vallombrosa that in the ray of 30 km offer three great monastic orders of the Camaldolesis, of the vallombrosanis and of the Franciscan ones.
From Casentino you can easily reach and visit the cities of Arezzo, Cortona, Florence and Siena.
It's important to know that Stia every two years holds The European Biennial Wrought Iron exhibition together with World Forging Championship, the next exhibition will take place on September from 5th to 8th 2013.
