There is a concept behind this holiday house: to create a space for holiday makers where people feel comfortable, at home, well looked after. At the same time trying to make the house as environmental friendly as possible, without loosing the confort.

The house as been being fixed and changed, according to travelers sugestions, to make it more comfortable, pleasant and realiable.

The house is a semidetached house with one spacious living room, bedroom and complete bathroom, kitchen with all the facilities.

A fully furnished very charming house with one bedroom with double bed, kitchen fully equipped to prepare all kinds of meals and with washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, electric kettle, electric coffee machine and other small appliances.

A very comfortable living room with two futons, television set with satellite reception, and dining area with table and chairs.

The bathroom is also fully equipped with bath and hair dryer, towels and all the necessary appliances.

Cotton bed linen, anti allergenic pillows and towels are provided.

On your arrival you will find water and milk in the fridge along with cheese, ham, fresh bread and tea bags and instant coffee in the kitchen cupboards for you.

There is a private courtyard for sunbathing or barbecuing and, a sunny front garden with space to have meals or simply relax while watching the sunset over the mountains.

This space has got a fence of roses, an outside table and chairs, and it faces the street. This street is very quiet, almost only local people pass by, and it has got a very nice atmosphere of 'neighborhood' with people greeting each other.

In the garden you find a lemon tree, hopefully with lemons, and plants like parsley, coriander and thyme.

Parking is right outside the front gate, always available.

Only 800m from the gate to a medieval town, full of character and considered the pearl of Portuguese little towns.

About Fernanda Nunes

My name is Fernanda and I am a kindergarten teacher on retirement process.

I was born in Tras-os-Montes, Mirandela area in the northeast of the country, near the spanish border.

I moved to Leiria when I was 9, and when i finished primary school education, went to a boarding school, in Tomar, to continue secondary school, up to the 9th grade.

After a short period in Angola I came to Óbidos, where I've been living, studying and working ever since.

I furthered my education here in the area and only went away for the college education. I worked in several areas of Portugal but settled down here and bought a flat, first in Caldas da Rainha, and then this little house in Óbidos.

I spent most of my working life furthering my education, took 3 postgraduation courses, improved my english (learned at school) by studying with the British Council where i achieved proficiency level.

Because of my language habilities I met and socialized with the british/american comunity living in this area, and met my very dear companion and partner in life, a british citizen from Wales, that lived most of his life traveling the world, working for the british government, and settle down here in Óbidos when he retired

He passed away 6 years ago, but he is still remembered everyday with much love.

I also learned about computers, by taking a specialized course in information and comunication tecnologies, in university, mainly because i am 58 and computers weren't around when I was growing up.

I loved my job as a kindergarten teacher, now my job is to create a space for holiday makers that make a diference.

My aim is to welcome people, provide a special place and ambience for people that stay here.

II don't want just to rent a house! I want to create an ambience of trust, calm, relax, with confort, and where people can feel at home.

Why Fernanda Nunes chose Obidos Town

I purchased this house in 2003 and lived in it until 2011, when I married a neighbour and moved to his house in the same row of houses. We decided to live here, instead of purchasing elsewhere because we are charmed with this little corner, so close to everything we need and yet so quiet and in such beautiful environment.

I used to love my job but got very ill and had to retire earlier.

Now this little busyness is my job.

I intend to make this little house, a very confortable and welcoming space, where people find everything they need to live, relax and enjoy life.

Allthough it is a busyness I am interested in making this little space much more then a busyness. I want it to become the place for holidays where people feel welcome, cared for and confident that everything is done to welcome them.

What makes this house unique

In here we wake up with the sound of birds singing and you hardly believe you are 500 meters away from big coaches stoping by to let tourists out to visit the town, everyday.

From the porchway of the house where we can seat and enjoy a drink or a meal, while, if anyone passes by, they smile, greet you and move on, because they are neighbours, people who live here in the area.

From the backside varanda there's a lovely view to one of the castle towers and the surrounding hills and garden.

But more than that.

The house has got all the little utensils neede in a house to function, and all the apliances needed.

Everything is thought to make people feel well, The house is constantly changed to respond to guests needs.

There are plenty of houses in this area for rent. This one I intend to be unique, environmental friend, with non alergenic features.

This is ideal for a couple to live. I include a bedsetty advised by my companion's brother who came here, from the UK, to try it and advise me about how to make it more friendly and enjoyable. Thank you Peter, who always loved this house, the decoration and its splendid location. He spent hours on the porch, reading a book, enjoying an afternoon drink watching the sunset.

Super, comfortable, well equiped one bedroom cottage.

Lovely, roomy, clean and comfortable, conteporary one bedroomed cottage within walking distance of Obidos Town. The owner Fernanda Nunes lives next door but one and is very freindly and helpful but remains unobtrusive.

Obidos has giftshops, bookshops, music shops and also a Post office and chemist and several bars and good restaurants within its castle walls. If you are staying for any length of time I would recomend a hire car to visit the lovely surounding area and the Silver Coast and also for trips to the supermarket. There is free parking in the cul de sac outside the cottage.

The weather in late August was fine, hot by 10:00 am but cool in the evenings. We had a lovely relaxing holiday and would recommend Lemon Tree Cottage to any couple who wants to visit Obidos and explore the area.

Home Away From Home

We stayed four nights at Fernanda's home in Obidos, just minutes from the old town walls. We loved this accommodation. Fernanda greeted us with a bottle of local wine, cheese, ham, bread, water, milk and some of her home made lemon curd.

This vacation property is very comfortable, spotless, and extremely well equipped. Fernando takes great pride in her property and thoroughly enjoys creating a wonderful vacation experience for her guests. She also provided lots of information about the area.

We highly recommend Fernanda's vacation home to anyone travelling in the Obidos area.

Beautifully clean house, very friendly owners

It was lovely to meet Fernanda and her husband, they are very friendly and welcoming. The house is so clean and comfortable and has everything you could need, inside and out. Lovely outdoor sitting areas and a car park directly in front on the house. The beautiful town of Obidos is a very short walk and if you stay longer than a few days the house is central to other lovely areas. We enjoyed our stay here very much and also loved the fresh lettuce and marmalade. Thank you

A lovely house from where to base your tour

This is a lovely, homely house and we were glad we decided to stay here for 11 nights rather than stay in multiple locations. It is in a quiet cul-de-sac just 10 minutes walk to Obidos village gate and just 15 minutes drive to the lovely beach at Foz Do Arelho. Tomar, Batalha, Alcobaca and Fatima are all within an easy hour's drive. The owner Fernanda is a charming lady who has taken steps to ensure the house is not only attractive and comfortable but also very well equipped. It is spotlessly clean. There is satellite TV, every kitchen appliance you could need and endless hot water from the powerful shower due to the solar panels. The 'welcome pack' was very generous and on arrival was supplemented by the offer of fresh salad vegetables from Fernanda's garden. Fernanda lives a couple of doors away and is available in the event of query but is unobtrusive. In response to an earlier review Fernanda has purchased a supplementary mattress for the sofa bed, our daughter visited for 3 days and slept well on this. If you are looking for a comfortable house in this price range, look no further - you won't be disappointed.

Lovely Restful Home

Our stay in Obidos was memorable and the Obidos Town Home added to our experience. On our arrival we were greeted by Fernanda, the gracious personable owner who took us through the home to acquaint us with its amenities. The home is well equipped with everything required for preparing meals or relaxing in the large lounge. In addition, there is a patio and a courtyard available to enjoy the outdoors. It was a treat to have parking right outside the front door. A well stocked welcome package awaited us with items for making sandwiches. The house is a short walk from the walled medieval town and its attractions. We spent the 2nd day of our stay driving north along the coast as far as Nazare. The scenery is magnificent and the trip added to our enjoyment of the time there. I would highly recommend the Obidos Town Vacation Rental as a lovely place to stop and enjoy this area of Portugal.

Obidos est une ville médievalle charmante, entourée de longues murailles, qui attire de trés nombreux touristes.

Dans la maison de Madame Nunez vous ne serez pas génés par le flux touristique, car elle est située dans un quartier calme, à un quart d’heure de marche du centre d’Obidos. Elle est comfortable avec tout l’équipement nécessaire. Madame Nunez vous accueillera chaleureusement et s’efforcera de rendre votre séjour agréable.

L’avantage de la location est que vous n’êtes pas obligés de disposer d’une voiture. En effet, il y a un super-marché à un quart d’heure de marche et d’Obidos vous pouvez prendre le train ou l’autobus pour Lisbonne, Porto, Coimbra ou beaucoup d’autres endroits à haute valeur culturelle et historique.

Trés bonnes possibilités de marche à pied. A cinq minutes de la maison, vous pourrez marcher pendant des heures parmis les vignes, les vergers (abricots, nectarines, pêches, etc...), les champs de fleurs sauvages. Avec toujours à l’horizon, pour ne pas se perdre, la longue muraille d’Obidos ....

Obidos er en sjarmerende middelalderby, omkranset av store festningsmurer, som tiltrekker seg mange turister.

I huset til Fru Nunez, vil ikke turistmengden være forstyrrende siden det befinner seg i et rolig strøk, et kvarter å gå til Obidos sentrum. Huset er komfortabelt med alt nødvendig utstyr. Fru Nunez tar godt imot sine gjester og vil gjøre sitt beste for at de opplever en fin ferie.

Fordelen med å leie hus i Obidos, er at det er strengt tatt ikke nødvendig å disponere bil. Det finnes en matbutikk i gåavstand, og fra Obidos er det mulig å ta tog eller buss til Lisboa, Porto, Coimbra og andre historiske og kulturelle severdigheter. Det er også gode muligheter for å gå tur i naturen. Like ved huset, kan en gå i timesvis blant frukthager, vinranker og blomstrende åkrer. Med alltid i sikte, (for ikke gå seg vill), Obidos mektige festningsmurer …..

Owner's Response: It is a pleasure to welcome travellers and make them feel confortable and safe. The location of the house serves different styles of holiday. It has a good location for golf, for beach holidays, to know several historic interesting towns, but also to relax and enjoy a quite neighbourhood. The house itself is confortable, pleasant and equipped with all the things one needs at home. As owner I try to make people welcome, and let them know that They will be assisted if necessary.

The most important reason to chose this house is the easiest access to all of these towns and activities without having to stay in the middle of the noise, and movement but close enough to get to it either walking - into Óbidos, or by car or bus.

The house is located in a village 600 meters from the town gate of Óbidos a small middle age town situated inside walls, 4 km away from a lagoon several km wide where water birds like wild ducks, crane, herons and other birds can be watched very closely. It is a touristy town in the centre of a region full of touristy attractions: a big lagoon with water sports like Parapente, wind surf, paddling, and with 4 golf resorts and clubs at close distance 16 to 25 km. nearby

All the facilities can be found at around 100 to 800 meters from the house: restaurants, bars, coffee shops, supermarket, public swimming pools.

Apart from the town there are walking paths all around the area.

6km- Caldas da Rainha, a middle sized, very rural town, 9 km from Foz do Arelho, a popular beach,

20 km the town of Peniche a very typical fisherman town, with several activities to offer like fishing, surf.

30Km from Alcobaça, another medieval town with a Franciscan building, and a lovely town to visit.

40 km from Batalha, with a big monastery build in the Portuguese Manuelino style.

46 km from Torres Vedras a modern town, with a medieval castle.

45 km from the biggest Portuguese caves - Mira d'aire and Alvados in the Candeiros mountain area.

75 km from the Lisbon airport

56km from Leiria, the capital of the county area and a modern town with a very interesting castle and old town.

80 km from Sintra a town kings and nobles built palaces and castle, with a micro climate that makes Sintra a town with lovely gardens and parks.

Óbidos is right in the centre of the country and one of the most touristy centres of Portugal, and there is public transportation to all this places either by bus or train.

There are also boat little tours to Berlenga island, leaving from Peniche, or in Nazaré and S, Martinho sight seeing boat tours.

Available, on request, a tour around the Lagoa de Óbidos, by car, for a fee (ask the owner). On this tour almost the whole perimeter of the Lagoon can be seen, as well as the most popular sites and the most quite ones, suitable for bird watching. Also on request, it is possible to arrange a light meal, on arrival, for those guests that arrive late, for a set fee. This service should be booked in advance to meet guests preferences, although it would be portuguese food, and as much as possible, local bio food. If it is possible to have a tour on the most popular beaches of the area, or the most touristic towns on a 50km range. This services should be arranged with the owner, prior to the guests arrival.
