Le Rossignol has been finished in the traditional cream coloured plaster beneath a low slopping roof covered in the local curved tiles. You enter through two, heavy Vendéen green gates set in a high, thick laurel hedge.
Going into Le Rossignol, you enter into a large, cool, tiled dining area with a well-equipped, open plan kitchen to one side and a splendid lounge, with its many settees and enclosed fireplace, to the other, again, both tiled and all with beamed ceilings. Off the lounge leads the stairs up to the four substantial, carpeted bedrooms, bathroom and shower room, both with W.C., all with the high, beamed ceilings that go right up to the apex of the house.
Our three properties are in a small hamlet near Cheffois in the Vendée, south of the Loire valley and between the cities of Nantes and Poitiers. They were built between 150 and 200 years ago but have been renovated and modernised over the last few years. The original farmhouse and barns have been converted to three properties - the farmhouse called Le Rossignol, and two gîtes, Les Lavandes and Les Hirondelles. They stand in around one acre of private and secluded gardens, with many areas of flowerbeds, lawns and shady corners. In the gardens is the shared pool with its terracotta coloured terrace and ample space for sun worshippers. To one side of the terrace is a gazebo where you can escape from the heat of the sun or, if you are energetic enough, play table tennis. There is even a more open area where, during the cooler parts of the day, the children (big and little!) can play football –even football nets are provided! Year round hire is available. All properties are non-smoking.
In 2015 the pool will be open from 23rd May until 19th September.

I would recommend for anyone who would enjoy a holiday in the French countryside.
If you are looking for a very relaxing and an extremely well equipped and spotlessly clean gite this is the place for you. We have just spent two weeks in this delightful gite... the views, the pool, the garden and the surrounding area superb. Everything you might need has been thought of.
A huge thank you to Pat and Ian for all their kindness to us.
Just returned from our summer holiday 2011. We stayed in the lovely maison in this gite and maison complex. The maison was everything and more and we did not need to worry about anything. Pat and Ian have thought of everything that the holiday maker may need for a short or long stay in their superb property. The first thing we encountered was the maison handbook. I might add at this point that you would be hard pressed to find as much detail and needed info in some so called professional publications. The handbook was vital reading giving local info as well detailed info regarding the maison and appliances and pool. We had four adults and four children in our party and there was ample room, bedrooms, pots, pans, etc for all of us. The garden and pool area is excellent and we spent a full day catching the little gecko lizards that come out to sunbathe. The children loved the pool and football pitch and there was no danger of them escaping out of the property due to the gated garden. When we ate at home we loved the terrace and sat out till late evening with bottles of wine looking out over the countryside. The view is superb and we enjoyed every family meal here. Special moments like that stay with you forever. The pool is a good size and deep at one end which I found useful since I am fairly tall and there is nothing worse than being in a pool that only comes up to your waist. The shallow end was suitable for our kids as they could stand up in it and they loved playing with the inflatables. The wife and sister in law loved the sun loungers around the outside of the pool area and caught a few rays in the hot vendee sun. There are lots of great walks in the area and cycle routes if that is your thing and if like me you are into canoeing then Mervent (30 mins away) is for you. We spent a full day idling down the river / lake Mere - another special day! Due to it's location you will need a car, but everywhere is within reach. The max drive we had for a family day out was 1.5 hrs away. If you have never been to France before then please remember to visit the local tourist info office. They use a card system for all the places of interest and you can take one of each and plan your days out in advance. I would not hesitate to come back here and if my lottery numbers come up I will be making Pat an offer she can't refuse tho' I would not blame her if she didn’t. Thank you once again for a superb summer holiday 2011. Brian / Sam and girls. Darren / Mandy & boys
From our hamlet, La Guérinière, it is not far to Maillezais where you could take a punt to explore the green waterways of Le Marais Poitevin, or you could relax on the beach at La Tranche-sur-Mer. La Rochelle with its bustling, fortified harbour is only 35 miles further down the coast. You could even spend a whole day at Puy du Fou being delighted by their dramatic re-enactments of an invasion by Vikings or Roman gladiator fights and chariot racing in a huge coliseum, or, if the history and the future of film is your thing, then a visit to Futuroscope near Poitiers is a must. You could, of course, visit a museum - every town has a least one covering all manner of interests - or even try out a restaurant or two – there are many, sometimes in the most unexpected locations, around the area. For those who enjoy a local market, there is a big one at Fontenay-le-Comte every Saturday selling food, clothing, jewellery and some unusual gifts. Other local towns hold markets on different days.
Other Activities: Bungee-jumping, micro-light flying, paint balling
