An enjoyable week
We found everything we needed for three couples for a week. We were very comfortable, once we got the central heating adjusted right. The cottage is ideally situated in a quiet cul-de-sac, round the corner from a pub and in beautiful countryside.
With views over the Coquet Valley, an ideal base to explore this unspoilt area. Nearby Rothbury - "The Gateway to Northumberland" - is a vibrant market town. There is walking from the doorstep; a trout fishery at Caistron; the National Trust's Cragside three miles away and Alnwick Castle ( for Harry Potter fans) and Gardens ( for Mum and Dad) fifteen miles.
The coast, just twenty miles to the east is an Area of Outstanding Beauty and boasts such treasures as Holy Island (Lindisfarne); Bamburgh, with its sandy beaches, castle and Grace Darling Museum and the Farne Islands , with their puffins, seals and terns. The balcony looks ovewr the Simonside Hills, whilst the Cheviots cab be seen in the opposite direction. Up the valley are the delights of Holystone, Alwinton and Clennel Street. Further afield - but easily visited within an hour - are Hadrians Wall, Berwick on Tweed, Wooler, Warkworth and Beadnell. The border towns of Coldstream, Jedburgh and Kelso are within easy distance. Newcastle on Tyne and the Metro Centre offer retail therapy and city life if you are over- countryfiled!
