FRAMEWORK AND ENVIRONMENT
Campo Benfeito benefits from a strategic location. It is integrated in the Serra do Montemuro, where once the transhumance of the Serra da Estrela herds was developed. It is located on the northern border of Beira Alta, bordering the region of Trás-os-Montes. Part of the village is at a quota higher than 1. 000 meters of altitude.
It is a few kilometers from the Douro River and Rio Paiva, places where you can enjoy leisure activities and sports that are developed there. We highlight the beach of Folgosa, the river beach in the county of Castro de Daire and which is less miles from the village.
Due to its proximity to the Douro, Porto, Verde and Dão wine producing regions, the stay at the Ares do Montemuro house can be complemented by a visit to the wine production estates and to the many existing wineries.
Still in the municipality of Castro Daire, you can access the benefits of thermal treatments through the programs available in the Termas do Carvalhal.
In this and other municipalities you can find a unique patrimonial wealth, a gastronomic offer with regional roots, and agricultural, livestock or processed products of great quality of which we highlight: the ham, the salpicão, the broa (corn and mix) and the veal arouquesa Be sure to consult the owner if you want to participate in the garden activities and if you want you can also access local agricultural products.
If you want to do some walking trails follow those that are homologated.
Today, the village has about half a hundred inhabitants, surpassing 70 in the hot seasons. The earth connection remains for those who still persist there, either in an exclusive or pluriactivity regime. The majority of those who live here work in the village itself, whether in the area of agriculture or livestock, handicrafts, culture, civil construction, the environment and other services.
In the house Ares do Montemuro additional tourist information regarding the territory surrounding the village is available.
