The living, dining & kitchen area & all the bedrooms have panoramic views over this historical part of the Dordogne river to the 4 Chateaux of Castelnaud, Fayrac, Marqueyssac & Lacoste.

The main entrance to the house uses the original Post Office shop doorway and leads directly into the kitchen. For those of you feeling a bit more energetic, join a bike tour & see the leafy lanes & valleys. Hot air ballooning & micro-lighting flights can be organised locally for the more adventurous amongst you. There is a 'Tree Adventure Park' near by, which is a great place to go with a group of kids & adults alike. There are also the many local caves including Lascaux & Font de Gaume at les Eyzies with their Prehistoric paintings for you to visit. Sarlat itself offers many free attractions, especially during the summer, including fireework displays, street theatre, acrobats, musicians, art exhibitions & concerts. Not to be missed are the towns & villages of Domme, Rocamadour, Sarlat & Montignac with the famous Lascaux cave paintings.

BEYNAC HISTORY: L'ancienne Poste is set on the banks of the gently flowing Dordogne river overlooking 4 chateaux & one of the historic sites of the Hundred Years War (1337-1453) between England & France. The stunningly romantic village of Beynac, which rises dramatically from the valley floor & which was once the home of Richard the Lionheart, will enchant & captivate you at every turn, from its narrow medieval streets lined with soft honey coloured stone houses, shops, art galleries & restaurants to its magnificent Chateau, perched high on top the cliff, which has majestically watched over the Dordogne valley since 1150. You may already be familiar with Beynac and the surrounding area from watching such films as 'Chocolat', 'Joan of Arc', 'The Musketeer' and 'Timeline'.

I also have the details on a couple of other similar homes in the area, so if this does not suit I can forward on the details of the other houses, both have large 10x5m pools and can accommodate between 4-10 guests. Both are very reasonably priced for the facilities offered and within 5 minutes of Sarlat, Domme, Beynac, Roque Gageac and the Dordogne river.

Please note that as we have 3 houses with the same or similar facilities all within the same Sarlat and Beynac area, our availability calendar shows when all of our houses are reserved, so if a date is shown as available we do have 1, 2 or all 3 of our houses available for that date.

About Xanthe Eadie

We moved to France with our children 16 years ago and have lived & worked in the hospitality industry in the Sarlat area since then. We ran our own small hotel & restaurant in Beynac for 6 years and are proud to tell you that we were listed in many International guide books, including Rick Steves, Alistair Sawdays and the Guide du Routard. We sold this business in the summer of 2006, and after listening to the needs of our restaurant and hotel guests we started our holiday rental home business. We now have 3 wonderful vacation rental houses in prime locations in central Sarlat & Beynac which are available to rent all year round. As we live locally, we are your first point of contact if you need help with anything, you will be able to draw on our vast local knowledge, which has been acquired over many years, to make the most of your stay in this wonderful area. You will find that each of our houses can offer you the very best in location, amenities & comfort, whether you are over looking the Dordogne river & 4 Chateaux or strolling through the Medieval streets of Sarlat. Be assured that we are responsive to our guests needs; many of whom come back year after year & have become firm friends, they are more than happy to recommend us to their family & friends. We will offer you the best service that we possibly can to ensure that your holiday is a memorable one for all the right reasons!!

Why Xanthe Eadie chose Perigord Blanc

Because it is magnificent !

Location, Location, Location.

Need I say more...............why rent somewhere & have to drive everywhere when you can walk!

What makes this house unique

We have three beautiful holiday homes, one in central Sarlat, one in central Beynac (wonderful house which over looks 4 Chateaux and the Dordogne river!) and a brand new to the holiday rental market after a 150,000 Euros refurb is our 16th century Maison Bourgeois with heated salt water pool, which is located just 2 miles from the centre of Sarlat in a tranquil bucolic setting.

Both our Sarlat and Beynac homes have been our own family home since we moved to France 14 years ago and we now offer them for others to enjoy. All three houses are private and you will have sole use of the house, garden and pool, they all have their own off road private parking and ensuite bedrooms. As we now live only 5 minutes drive from both Sarlat and Beynac we are on hand for any queries that you may have during your stay so you can be assured of the best of care & assistance if needed.

The Sarlat & Beynac houses are within a 2-5 minute easy level stroll of restaurants, cafes and wonderful boulangeries selling the best croissants and baguettes. There are Farmers Food Markets each day of the week in the surrounding towns and villages and a twice weekly street market in Sarlat which also has a daily covered market by the main Square. Here you will find the local farmers selling their freshly harvested produce, including organic bread, fruits, vegetables, cheeses and creams. During the summer months there is a daily variety of street entertainment in Sarlat which is free to watch and sometimes participate in ! Our new holiday home is within walking distance of a bar & restaurant with twice weekly live music during July and August and is only a 2 minute car journey into bustling Sarlat.

Guestbook comments from the owner

My husband and I travelled from Armenia to Benyac to reunite with our daughter’s who travelled from different parts of the world to be with us. We had a wonderful week long stay in this house that was very comfortable, welcoming and tastefully furnished. With the bedrooms on three different levels we were able to spread out and each was fitted with its own bathroom and toilet – which was great as young women need to do a lot of personal grooming! We spent a lot of time cooking, eating and talking as we sat around the wood fire which was really delightful. It was the first week in January when we stayed in the house and the weather was not to cold with even a few sunny days after frosty mornings. The Benyac village was very quite with only a few shops and restaurants open. This suited us just fine – but we needed to remember to stock up on groceries in the morning before the supermarket closed. We did some peaceful walks along the river and around the village and castle located on the cliff top. I loved sitting on the bench underneath the window and looking out at the river as the water flowed down stream. The photos on the web page of the house and village do not lie! It all lives up to expectations

The perfect holiday -- in every way!

  • 5 of 5

Hi Xanthe and Hamish,

Just to let you know that we arrived home back in the States safely -- and still happily thinking about our stay in Beynac and L'ancienne Poste. It was absolutely wonderful. We enjoyed the great views ("to die for" is an understatement) plus all the history and, of course, the charming small village flavor. The property was immaculate, bright and sunny, and everything we could have hoped for. The chateau, the river below, plus the proximity to Sarlat and the charming countryside of Dordogne made for the perfect holiday. We especially loved the local markets, the friendly people, and we thank you so much for sharing all of it with us. We will be back.

Owner's Response: It is so lovely to hear that our guests enjoyed this house, as this really is a wonderful place, the house, the village, the views, in fact just about everything is 'as hoped for' just as Arnold has said !!!! We should know we lived in L'ancienne Poste for 5 years !!!!

A Gem on the Dordogne

  • 5 of 5

First, we were looking for a smaller intimate village for our stay in the Dordogne and we were more than happy to find that we were not disappointed on the township of Beynac (meaning the place of the big rock). The L'ancienne Poste was a perfect location to enjoy the delights of the Perigord Noire. The accommodations were better than advertised as the view was even more spectacular than we anticipated. The interior has been extensively remodeled and well equipped. The pool was a delight to cool off from the few very warm afternoons. The town is small and very manageable to find all your needs and we personally recommend the restaurant La Petite Tonnelle. And don't miss the weekly market in the parking lot for Foie Gras and fine (and inexpensive) wines. In short, a great place to stay and very responsive owners.

Wonderful property in the Dordogne

  • 5 of 5

We loved this vacation and we loved the property. We were 5 people and the house suited us perfectly. The booking was easy and the house was exactly as advertised - clean, spacious, no unwelcome surprises. The location is unbeatable with the shops and restaurants very near. The view is outstanding and we loved waking up to it each morning and coming back to it each day. We paddled the Dordogne, went hot-air ballooning, went to the markets, including a Marche Nocturne (lots of fun) and generally had a wonderful time. I would recommend this rental without reservation.

As the following reviews indicate, this place has spectacular views, both from the terrace and the other outside areas, and from within the house itself. We particularly enjoyed the lingering summer twilight which turns the landscape along the river into something out of a fairy tale. The middle bedroom is the best one, but the attic room and the basement room are also well appointed and very comfortable. The kitchen is well-equipped (we baked a birthday cake in the new over). The refrigerator is a bit small (by American standards), but there is a freezer in the basement (entered from outside the house) near the washing machine. We had a rather harrowing time with the access road, which is narrow and steep, so I would urge anyone renting the house to read the instructions for driving up to it carefully and to view the U Tube Video which Xanthe has prepared. The owners are very responsive to requests for assistance and scrupulously honest. We have rented a number of houses in France and Italy over the years and this one is probably the best of the lot.

Everything you could hope for in a home rental

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time renting a home and have to say it was a great experience. First off the owners are 100% honest in there descriptions and have put a great deal of thought into making your stay trouble free. I guess it comes from their B&B background because they have covered everything very well. By this I'm saying that the photos are very accurate and could even be a little better because the place shows flawlessly. It was impeccably clean and well maintained, plus very tastefully renovated and modern for daily use. When you book they send you extensive notes and information so you know how to prepare. We rented a new Audi A3 and it fit up the skinny road just fine and having the garage was really a great thing. Even more so if you were coming on the busy months. The view from the home and decks is beyond description as the weather changed the view every day and the sunsets were spectacular. Walking up from the shops below was easy as there is a path that comes right up to the house or you can stroll down the lane and go to the butcher shop and bakery at the bottom. Either way the home is perfectly situated for exploring. The lanes are quaint and the entire town is totally authentic with old world charm without any touristy feel. I was worried about noise from the road below, but there is none as there are stone walls that totally encase any sound below. You hear nothing and will sleep very soundly. Also the location is perfect for exploration and we visited all the local landmarks which are spread out like a wheel from this home. Sarlat is only about 10 minutes and an easy drive. We thought we would be travelling to Sarlat often for the activity. But, in reality we only went once and and found it too big for our tastes. Although the Wednesday market there was worthwhile and there are many photo opps. The owners also refunded our deposit the day we left. So, you know they are really paying attention to the details. Would I stay there again? You bet and for two weeks next time. If you look up perfect in the dictionary there's a picture of this home and of the owners Xanthe and Hammish.

Just wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

This property is exactly as advertised. The views are just outstanding, and the patio is great for an evening beverage. We had six people, three couples; the downstairs room consists of two twins, which was not optimal. All three bedrooms are large, and the bathrooms are more than adequate. All four floors were very clean, and the house is very well set up. The road up to the garage is pretty scary to use, but there is a parking permit provided for the lot at the bottom of the hill (about a four minute walk); we never had an issue finding a space in that lot.

Beynac is a lovely village, not as crowded as (for example) La Roque, but also without as many restaurants or stores. That was not an issue for us, but it should be taken into consideration when deciding where to stay.

I would definitely stay at this property again if I'm in the area. It's rare that you find a rental property where the photos are not overly flattering; in this case I would say that they were very accurate and that in fact the beauty of the setting and the quality of the accommodations are not really conveyed by the photos.

Owner's Response: We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay in our beautiful home and Beynac village, and especially delighted that you found the house to be very clean and of a better quality than anticipated and in a wonderful setting. :-) The views are pretty amazing and I should know as I had the pleasure of living in this house for 6 years. :-) Personally, regarding which village to stay in, I cannot agree with this review as I would prefer Beynac over La Roque Gageac as Beynac is open all year around whereas La Roque is mostly closed for the winter months. La Roque has one, possibly two decent restaurants and some terrible tourist ones, but the shops are mostly tourist summertime only shops and there is no Chateau to visit of course, whereas Beynac has an award winning bakery with the best croissants in the Dordogne valley, a butchers, grocery store, weekly summer market, pharmacy, clothes shop, hairdressers, art galleries, canoe hire, river boat cruises, hot air balloon hire, tours of Chateau de Beynac, a micro brewery, several snack and gift shops, restaurants which are open all year around including La Petit Tonnelle which is just a 2 minute walk from the house (which is reviewed very favourably on Tripadvisor), a coffee house, English doctors surgery, realator/property agency...........the list goes on. As far as I am aware La Roque does not have most of these facilities and I have lived here for nearly 16 years now, so for me, if I was staying a week or two in a village I would prefer Beynac which offers everything within walking distance. :-)
