Overview

About the property

Spacious one bedroom apartment in the historic centre

This elegant, beautifully designed apartment is truly French in style. It is on the second floor of an eighteenth century building, on one of Bordeaux's best streets.

You enter a hallway leading to an unusually large and light living/dining room, with three sets of French doors opening onto Juliette balconies. There are excellent views towards the ever-changing Garonne river in one direction and down the sweep of neo-classical buildings on Cours d'Alsace Lorraine in the other. The area is vibrant and lively, with bars, restaurants, cafes and shops and public transport close by. It's the ideal place if you enjoy being in the heart of the action.

The contemporary kitchen is well-equipped with a dishwasher and microwave.

The comfortable double bedroom also has a set of French doors offering a view, while the thick curtains ensure you can sleep at any time of day. The bathroom also has a washing machine.

Bordeaux River View apartment is situated in the historic centre of the World Heritage listed city, close to all the major sights and an ideal location for visits to vineyards, the wine school, wine-tasting venues and French language schools.

Our English and French speaking caretaker will meet you and show you the apartment. She is on hand should you need any advice or assistance during your stay. There is a House Book, containing restaurant recommendations, transport information and other services you may require. A maid service is available on demand.

Surrounding the apartment are streets and squares with literally hundreds of excellent bars and restaurants. There are also numerous markets nearby, selling everything from gourmet produce to antiques.

About a three minute walk away is the famous Rue Sainte-Catherine. At 1.2 kilometres, it is the longest pedestrian shopping street in France and features shops like Galeries Lafayette, Fnac, C&A, H&M, most of the major labels; plus a multitude of designer boutiques and specialty shops.

If you wish to venture further afield, the tram stop is about 20 meters from the apartment building, with routes which can take you all over the city. If outlet shopping is your thing, head for Quai des Marques, near Chartrons, where you will find lots of shops offering clothing and homewares at greatly reduced prices.

Just down the Quai Richelieu, which you can see from the apartment window, is the Place de la Bourse - the royal square built under Louis XV. The semi-circle of eighteenth century buildings is reflected in the shallow pool, the Miror d'eau, which in summer comes alive with people splashing, wading and making the most of the warm weather.

You can stroll or cycle along the linear park which follows the river, where families and friends picnic among the flowers.

If you would like to explore the wine region you can either rent a car or take one of the many small group tours available through Bordeaux Tourism. The tourist office is about a 10 minute walk, or a 3 minute tram ride away, near the Grand Theatre.

Best Location

  • 5 of 5

The apartment is on the third floor of gorgeous 18th century building with river views and beautiful interior architectural details. We walked or took tram to every sight and attraction. Too many fine restaurants in walking distance to count. Shopping the Chartrons market for fresh food to prepare in the modern kitchen was another highlight. We loved opening the floor to ceiling windows to take in the sights and sounds of the bustling city,. Note that the location is in a very lively spot above two pubs. If you are looking for absolute quiet this may not be the best spot for you.

Ideal location!

We absolutely loved this river view appartment, offering a marvellous location and all mod cons. It was just perfect for our 3 night stay. We were sad to leave and can't wait to return.

Nice

  • 4 of 5

Great location but noisy. Since there is no central AC one needs to keep

The windows open. Jack hammering was going on between 1am and

3am on the street below. But on Bastille day we got rewarded with a

Grandiose firework wee could see from our apartment.

Nice management.

Expectations Not Met

  • 1 of 5

The images shown on the website look inviting, however this apartment, in reality, is in a very noisy location with trams and cars running either side of the building. If opening the windows for fresh air, the traffic noise is intolerable The apartment condition is a little shabby and tired looking. The basin over the washing machine in the bathroom is too high to use comfortably, the bath towels are scrunchy and poor quality, along with the bed sheets.

One power point in the kitchen to serve the kettle, toaster and coffee machine is not practical. First impressions say a lot and overflowing rubbish bins and bagged rubbish piled in the foyer was not what we were expecting.

We thank Charlotte, our contact, for organising a dentist and helping us with tram tickets, she was very helpful.

Fantastic location with all the comforts of home!

  • 5 of 5

This is a wonderful property located in the midst of the best of Bordeaux. We loved being half a block from the tram that takes you anywhere in Bordeaux, close to restaurants and the beauty of the riverfront! We enjoyed the Saturday market and had a picnic on the grass with wine, Camembert and foie gras and at night, we enjoyed the magical "water mirror" reflecting the Place de la Bource the apartment was very comfortable and had everything we needed. The stairs mentioned by a previous review were not a problem for us as we appreciated burning a few calories after eating so much delicious French food! You couldn't ask for a more convenient location, with charming cafes and pubs nearby and two grocery stores within a block. We loved this place! Thank you for sharing your wonderful home with us!
