Overview

About the property

Spacious one bedroom apartment in the historic centre

This elegant, beautifully designed apartment is truly French in style. It is on the second floor of an eighteenth century building, on one of Bordeaux's best streets.

You enter a hallway leading to an unusually large and light living/dining room, with three sets of French doors opening onto Juliette balconies. There are excellent views towards the ever-changing Garonne river in one direction and down the sweep of neo-classical buildings on Cours d'Alsace Lorraine in the other. The area is vibrant and lively, with bars, restaurants, cafes and shops and public transport close by. It's the ideal place if you enjoy being in the heart of the action.

The contemporary kitchen is well-equipped with a dishwasher and microwave.

The comfortable double bedroom also has a set of French doors offering a view, while the thick curtains ensure you can sleep at any time of day. The bathroom also has a washing machine.

Bordeaux River View apartment is situated in the historic centre of the World Heritage listed city, close to all the major sights and an ideal location for visits to vineyards, the wine school, wine-tasting venues and French language schools.

Our English and French speaking caretaker will meet you and show you the apartment. She is on hand should you need any advice or assistance during your stay. There is a House Book, containing restaurant recommendations, transport information and other services you may require. A maid service is available on demand.

Surrounding the apartment are streets and squares with literally hundreds of excellent bars and restaurants. There are also numerous markets nearby, selling everything from gourmet produce to antiques.

About a three minute walk away is the famous Rue Sainte-Catherine. At 1.2 kilometres, it is the longest pedestrian shopping street in France and features shops like Galeries Lafayette, Fnac, C&A, H&M, most of the major labels; plus a multitude of designer boutiques and specialty shops.

If you wish to venture further afield, the tram stop is about 20 meters from the apartment building, with routes which can take you all over the city. If outlet shopping is your thing, head for Quai des Marques, near Chartrons, where you will find lots of shops offering clothing and homewares at greatly reduced prices.

Just down the Quai Richelieu, which you can see from the apartment window, is the Place de la Bourse - the royal square built under Louis XV. The semi-circle of eighteenth century buildings is reflected in the shallow pool, the Miror d'eau, which in summer comes alive with people splashing, wading and making the most of the warm weather.

You can stroll or cycle along the linear park which follows the river, where families and friends picnic among the flowers.

If you would like to explore the wine region you can either rent a car or take one of the many small group tours available through Bordeaux Tourism. The tourist office is about a 10 minute walk, or a 3 minute tram ride away, near the Grand Theatre.

Why Suzanna Clarke chose Bordeaux

This is an unusually large apartment for a one bedroom, and is classically elegant. I love the view in two directions - to the river and along one of Bordeaux's finest streets.

What makes this apartment unique

It's close to restaurants and bars, and only a minute's walk away from Rue St Catherine, the longest shopping street in Europe.

Lovely apartment, perfect location, great view

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for a month in February. The apartment was perfect for two people: a comfortable living room, with plenty of full length windows and a view of the river. Cable TV and Internet/WiFi. Although we didn't cook much, the kitchen would be more than adequate for those who do. The bed was very comfortable and the combination of shutters and curtains kept the bedroom very dark, good for sleeping in. The location was superb: right on the quay, a short distance from the beautiful Place de la Bourse. Many restaurants within walking distance. We walked almost everywhere but there are also tram lines just outside the door or around the corner. For excursions outside the city, the main train station is a few stops away on the tram.

Other reviewers have commented about noise: Bordeaux is a university city with lots of students. They tend to gather around bars, of which there are two in close proximity, and you will hear them on weekends and football nights. However, the cheering was relatively intermittent and didn't keep us up. In any event, you can sleep in, as I mentioned.

A lovely elegant apartment with views towards the river

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our four days in this lovely apartment. The apartment had everything we needed and was very well equipped. Bordeaux is a lovely city to spend a few days. Lots of restaurants, bars and good shopping. The central area is small enough to walk around quite easily although the trams are very frequent if needed. We really enjoyed our stay and would love to return.

Perfect, pretty, spacious apartment

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at this apartment in Bordeaux worked out perfectly. The location couldn't be beat, as everything we needed -- parking, tram stop, restaurants, cafes, shopping - was all nearby. The apartment itself was so comfortable and well setup. It was tempting to just lounge about indoors at times! Charlotte and Suzanna were both so helpful and responsive during the booking process and beyond, and Charlotte was additionally exceptionally helpful with recommendations and logistics during our stay. If ever I need a lovely place to stay in Bordeaux again, I will absolutely return to this spot.

Beautiful Bordeaux!!

  • 5 of 5

Amazing property in a great location. Loved sitting in the living room at night watching the lights over the Garonne River - so relaxing. There are so many great restaurants in the area and more than a few noisy pubs! EURO 2016 only added to the experience. The shopping on Rue St. Catherine is good and shops in the historic old town are amazing. Take a trip to La Cite du Vin - the museum of wine. We spent 3 hours and probably need a full day to see everything. we also did two wine tours booked through Tourism Bordeaux. The full day to St. Emillion and half-day to Haut Medoc. They were both great.

The property manager, Charlotte, was extremely helpful with everything. Awesome vacation home! I would definitely recommend it for anyone visiting Bordeaux and wanting to be in the heart of the old town.

Wonderful Location in Bordeaux!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here in May this year for 3 days, Mon to Thurs. Perfect location, you can walk anywhere in the downtown area. There is no parking, so once we sorted out where to leave the car (car park on Viktor Hugo was best), that was great. There is no elevator so you are walking up three flights of stairs with luggage.

Great apartment, well furnished, very clean, has everything you need for your stay. Lovely sitting area/living room, great to relax! Beautiful views.

Felt very secure the whole time we were there, locks on front door to apartment building and apartment.
