Mary Jane and Fran, best friends for many years, purchased this home in 2007. Both intend to make Walker-in-the-Hills their permanent home sometime in the future. For now, Fran lives in Marietta, GA with her husband Dave and their son Matthew. Mary Jane lives in Titusville, FL with her husband Ron and her mother Ruth.
Ron Thompson purchased this house in 2007
Fran and MJ have vacationed here since the early 80's. They love it! It's quiet, peaceful, cool and beautiful.
THE PANORAMIC VIEW! The view toward Waynesville to the east is just spectacular. In the morning you will be greeted by a beautiful sunrise and in the evening the lights of Waynesville twinkle magically in the distance. Walker-in-the-Hills is a very special community of everything from small cottages to large, beautiful mountain homes. Located on the eastern slopes of Mt. Lyn Lowry, one of highest mountains in the Appalachians, this quiet and peaceful community enjoys a special ambiance loved by all who visit here.

Fran and Mary Jane - Owners
We had the most relaxing time while staying at this beautiful, well appointed home in Waynesville. The view is breathtaking from the living area, the kitchen was stocked with all we needed to prepare all our meals in house, the fireplace was warm and cozy during the very cold nights and days, the Internet and TV worked flawlessly, and the owner was very gracious to any and all our needs. This home provided the peace and quiet we were looking for, and yet we enjoyed an afternoon in the quaint mountain town of Waynesville which was a short 10 minute drive away. This home provided for all our needs and left a good impression on the Guests accompanying us. We recommend this home with 5 stars and will plan a return trip as soon as possible.
I was pleasantly surprised on how modern and comfortable the home was. I have rented a few different homes in the NC Mountains, and where they have been nice, this one is everything it was advertised to be. If you want a real “mountain view”, this is the home.
The large deck around the house was perfect for enjoying dinner outside, or just hanging out watching the sunset in the gazebo. The property was beautiful with multitude of birds, bunnies, chipmunks, and even a small fish pond.
The home was clean & tidy, and offered every amenity that a family of 5 needs. Full kitchen, living areas, quiet bed rooms, and an office with a desk to check into work “if needed”. The driveway up to the home was a little intimidating for a Floridian in a mini-van, but by the second day it was no big deal. The covered parking area was perfect for returning to the home during rainy weather. If I could take another week off of work,,, I’d return in a minute.
What an amazing get-away in the beautiful Western NC mountains! My husband and I stayed at this home for 5 glorious days and can't say enough great things about our stay. The owners have thought of literally everything to make a stay in their home comfortable and hassle-free. From the extremely informative welcome packet to the tasteful little instructions posted throughout the house, no stone has been left unturned to make a visit thoroughly relaxing and delightful. There were so many thoughtful touches like the bottle of wine, cheese, sausage and crackers to greet their guests. We were greeted by a wild turkey as soon as we arrived, watched a wide array of birds from the deck every night, and fed the fish in the Pollywog Pond every morning. We would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone considering this property!
My family had a wonderful time at this beautiful home. The owners are fantastic and the detail they have put into the home will be obvious from the moment you arrive. The home is impeccable- stocked with everything you can imagine and then some. The views from the deck make you never want to leave. So much to do in and around Waynesville-- the Parkway is only an exit away which provides great hiking, picnicking and a fun day trip to Slippery Rock. Asheville is a quick 25 minute drive if you want to tour the Biltmore Estate or have a special dinner at the Grove Park Inn. However, plan you days accordingly because the home itself offers plenty!
We had the most wonderful "stay in the mountains" last week and it was hard to leave! It was everything I wanted for my 94 year old mom and more. What a special trip for both of us that brought back many good memories. We were astounded at how gorgeous your home was, with everything anyone could ever need for a "more than comfortable" stay. It was a perfect fit for our needs of wheelchair access. The cool morning sunrises were breathtaking! Many hours were spent out on the deck sipping wine while admiring the flowers, listening to the birds, enjoying the conversation from the bullfrog, and watching fireflies! We have found our "home away from home" for future mountain trips! Thank you for being so gracious, kind, and thoughtful. I can't wait to visit again!
With much gratitude,
I have two words for this place; Stunning and Impeccable. Rarely would I give such high praise for a rental property, but this place is pure first class. Photos just cannot do justice in helping to describe how nice this house is, how much thought was put into the design and how gorgeous the surrounding property is. No expense was spared by the owners in the building of this home. All the rooms are huge. The ceilings are very high, making you feel like you are in a mansion. The decor throughout the home is like something out of a magazine. All the furniture is extremely comfortable and there is plenty of room to entertain as we did when we invited some local friends over for dinner one evening. They were as shocked and impressed as we were.
The home is clean and perfect… I mean there isn’t even a scratch on the moldings. I think this house is six years old, but it looks like it was just built yesterday. Hardwood floors in the living areas, carpet in the bedrooms and slate tile in the bathrooms. The bedding in the bedrooms are all high-thread-count with big thick comforters. The dinning room table is big and impressive. The living room with the big flat-screen TV and all the cable channels on the DVR was great to relax in front of in the evening. Even the cooking utensils, appliances and double oven in the well-designed kitchen is perfect. We stayed in the winter and built fires in the fireplace. This home is just plain comfortable.
These are the kind of owners who actually spend time living in their rental and perfectly understand what you need. It’s the little touches that we came to appreciate so much and there are just too many to put into words. The view out the massive front windows overlooking the mountains and the town seems to change hourly. As the sun rises and sets, the view changes and the mist and clouds add character to every photo we took. It’s so quite and peaceful outside and the air is clean and crisp.
The home is about fifteen minutes out of downtown Waynesville. There is plenty of shopping and restaurants in this small town in the mountains. On top of that, you are only about forty minutes away from Ashville and there are lots of things to do and see in that city.
I could go on and on, but I just want to thank Ron, Mary Jane, Fran and Dave for making our stay so comfortable and your home is just beautiful.
