The house is situated on a side of a mountain with views of Rochesson. It is south facing and has a private garden with a swimming pool. (3m50 diameter and 1m50 deep, heated by solar).

The ground floor is open plan and includes a modern kitchen that is equipped with a double oven, induction hob, microwave and dishwasher. The Kitchen leads into the spacious dining area that has a table for 8 that can be extended to accommodate 12. From the Dining area there are patio doors on to a large south facing wooden balcony with far reaching views equipped with tables and chairs for al fresco dining. The Dining area also lets onto the lounge with its 2 comfortable sofas and a TV with English channels. For the cooler evenings there is an efficient wood burning stove.

Downstairs there is a WC and next to that a small utility room with chest freezer and washing machine.

There are also 2 adjoining bedrooms on the ground floor separated from the main living space by a dividing door, one is a large room room with king-size bed, the other is a children's room with bunk beds, games and books.

The first floor has a mezzanine overlooking the Dining area and from there it leads to a large master bedroom with an en-suite bathroom and access to the balcony with a cafe syle table and chairs. The mezzanine also leads to a bright south facing cosy double bedroom and also an identical twin bedroom. The bathroom on the first floor has a walk in shower, WC and vanity unit.

This property is reached by going down steps and has parking for 2 cars.

The village of Rochesson sits astride the Bouchot river and is protected by our mythical symbolic owl who gives its name to a huge rocky outcrop ( Roche de ducs) that overlooks the valley. This viewpoint is well worth the visit, but beware it is a steep climb!

The village is surrounded by pine forests with numerous marked walks, a favourite of ours is a short 30 minute walk to the 'cascades de bouchot'. In the village there is a boulangerie, an excellent restaurant and also a shop where you can buy cheese directly from the

producers.

Just 9km away is the town of Gerardmer that surrounds a large lake and there you will find many restaurants and interesting shops. There are two cinemas, casino, swimming pools, climbing wall, ice skating, tennis courts and boats on the lake. For the brave there is a bathing area with slides into the lake. In July an August there are fireworks on the lake.

In winter there is the family ski resort at Gerardmer and also a little further afield excellent skiing at La Bresse.

We are only a short drive from the wine producing region in Alsace with its 'wine route' where you can visit and try the wines. From the range of hills (cretes) between us and the Alsace you can see across the Rhine valley to the Black forest and on a really clear day the Alps.

In winter just before Christmas the towns of Colmar, Kasersberg and Riquewihr host their traditional Christmas markets.

A lovely, large chalet overlooking the valley.

  • 5 of 5

'The Spinney' is a very modern and well-maintained property with all the facilities we could need. Ian was there to welcome us on our arrival and to 'show us the ropes'. Both Ian and Alison were very helpful with local knowledge and with ideas on what to explore in the area.

There is fantastic scenery all around and a number of local walks right from the door. We would need a dozen lifetimes to see everything in this vast area but highly recommend a day on the lake at the nearby Gerardmer and the brilliant views and walks at le Hohneck. We also loved the 'Stork and Otter re-introduction Centre' at Hunawihr. Set amidst the vineyards, this is a lovely and fascinating diversion. There are many lovely 'picturebook' towns and villages in the Alsace amidst miles of vineyards on the famous wine route. I think there are more 'Caves' per hundred yards here than we have seen any where else in France. No excuse for not coming home with a case or two!

Definitely an area we will be re-visiting and many thanks to Ian and Alison for providing such a lovely and relaxing place to stay.

A lovely base from which to walk and chill out.

  • 5 of 5

10 adults and teenagers stayed in this lovely chalet and there was plenty of room and equipment for all. The standard of linen, comfort of beds and kitchen utensils and equipment was excellent and the views make just sitting and relaxing a great option.

But, for the more energetic, the walks from the chalet are well signposted and delightful. There are tranquil woods and waterfalls to explore and Gerardmer is well worth a visit, just to walk around the lake.

We all enjoyed our stay and would thoroughly recommend. You are assured of a warm welcome from Ian and Alison who are close by if you need advice or help.

FIRST CLASS TOURING BASE,SUPERB INSIDE AND OUT.

  • 5 of 5

We were a group of motorcyclists who used the house as a base to explore the surrounding area and we couldnt have been made more welcome by Allison and Ian.Thanks to making contact with us before our holiday they provided us with a lovely Raclette and mixed meats meal as a welcome on our first evening. This took away the usual rush to the supermarket on that first evening following the journey down through Belgium and Luxembourg from the Zeebrugge ferry. The house inside is very well equipped and is much more spacious than than it appears in the photos. The Kitchen and bathrooms are superb and each bedroom is warm and welcoming. Nothing beats eating or relaxing in the balcony with its superb views over the valley. We recommend touring the area and visiting Gerardmer, Colmar. and the scenic mountain routes to Ballon d'Alsace,Hohneck and Le Grand Ballon.. We chanced upon the French National Monument at Hartmannswillerkopf overlooking the Rhine valley and the preserved trenches/museaum at Le Memorial du Linge. Both fascinating places. We highly recommend the house as a relaxing, peaceful place to stay with immediate access to beautiful scenery and empty roads if you enjoy touring by car or motorcycle.

Le Spinney more than exceeded our expectations. Spotlessly clean, spacious and well placed overlooking a beautiful valley. Alsace is a very interesting area to explore.
