Lovely old farmhouse in picturesque setting.
The house is furnished in an elegant country style, and has beautiful grounds with many secluded spots to relax with benches and hammocks. There are terraces, including one in front of the main house with a large sun umbrella, which is perfect for al fresco dining. The distinct feature of the house is a large black swimming pool surrounded by olive trees with open views of the unspoilt valley.
The main building has two floors. On the ground floor there are two bedrooms, one bathroom and two terraces with garden furniture. On the first floor there is a living room with a large working fireplace, a very well-equipped kitchen with seating for ten people, one double bedroom with a desk area and an en-suite bathroom and dressing room.
The second building, the Wisteria house, has two single bedrooms on two floors and a bathroom. Each room has a separate entrance, and there is a terrace with garden furniture.
The property is set on a hill in a very secluded and quiet location.
The next village, Mercatale di Cortona, has two supermarkets, a very good butcher and baker, two banks with ATM, a pharmacy, a doctor, a trattoria with a tennis court, a newsagent and a florist.
The larger supermarkets, Coop, are situated in Camucia (near Cortona) and Umbertide.
There are street markets in Umbertide on Wednesday, Camucia on Thursday and Cortona on Saturdays.
Many factory outlets (textiles and cashmere, f.i. Prada, Etro, La Perla) within easy reach.
A very good restaurant, Il Teatro, in Cortona, pizzeria 'Bastian Contrario' in Terontola.
You will find a full list of addresses at the house.
The closest train station are Terontola and Chiusi on the main line Milan/Florence/Rome.
A cosmopolitan couple wit a passion for collecting antiques and curiosand a great love of nature and gardens.
Andreas and Vanna Wittenburg purchased this house in 1975
We bought the house when we were quite young and, after restoring it, we kept adding our finds from antiques markets, travel memories... We have been building up the garden for many years and it has now reached a mature, luxuriant stage. It is a very personal and interesting property.
After visiting several properties in the region, we were instantly taken by this house, its strong architecture, the beauty of the pristine landscape, quite open and sunny, stunning even in the winter light.
