Summer holidays or weekend, midweek or winter breaks at any time of year. Vicarage Cottage, Hollinsclough, near Buxton, is part of a lovely period property, the old Vicarage in Hollinsclough. A delightful self-catering cottage with wood-burner and shutters that sleeps up to 5 people in a romantic and beautiful setting in the Peak District. Comfortable, cheerful and attractive are all words used to describe it by visitors. The cottage has two bedrooms, one sleeping up to three and the other being a double. There is also a sofa-bed in the sitting-room.The walks around the cottage are breathtaking. A well-behaved dog is welcome. The Cottage has recently had broadband and wi-fi installed and a satellite fitted for television. It also has a new wood-burning stove and new state of the art radiators in every room. There is also a sofa-bed in the sitting-room.

From the door you can take a number of spectacular walks including to the top of two of Derbyshire's best loved peaks.

The cottage is situated in the heart of the beautiful Peak District near Buxton. Ashbourne and Bakewell are near by. On one side of the cottage are the spectacular peaks of Chrome Hill and Parkhouse Hill and on the other are heather clad moors of the Staffordshire Moorlands.

The market towns of Leak, Buxton, Ashbourne and Bakewell are all an easy drive, each having their own market days.

Hollinsclough is beside the River Dove and is a walk away from the village of Longnor which boasts four pubs and various eating places.

Notes:
Vicarage cottage is bright and welcoming with comfortable furniture and new beds. Modern heating and a log burning stove have recently been installed together with a satellite box for the TV. The cottage was once the drawing room and bedrooms of the Vicarage and the fire place and various period features including shutters take one back into the early 19th century. It has recently been refurbished and is cheerful and attractive. Hollinsclough is a charming friendly village in remarkable country where the sounds are the distant rumble of a passing tractor, cows and chickens going about their daily life and the stream running down to the River Dove.

Idyllic Retreat

We stayed for a mini break in the October half term in this delightful cottage. It's rural setting within walking distance of two exciting hills including Chrome Hill make it a safe but interesting place for children to explore. The cottage is about half an hours drive from Alton Towers (which we did with our tescos vouchers!) but equally close to Mam Tor and all the caves. The cottage is well equipped and very comfortable. We were very happy there and would certainly consider going back there again.

Lovely setting and house just needed a bit more updating

As before liked the house and where it was bathroom and kitchen needed updating, well equipped but no t towels and parts of the fridge broken so couldn't stand milk etc up

Lovely peaceful retreat near many attractions

The cottage was a lovely place for myself and my two children to stay. Situated in the very quiet hamlet of Hollinsclough, the cottage had a large tranquil lounge and two bedrooms, one with 2 single beds and the other with 3, the basic Sky TV package and excellent wifi. Since the children stayed in the room with 3 beds which also had an attached toilet, I was able to get plenty of rest and had the use of the family bathroom.

Hollinsclough took a bit of finding at first but once we had a handle on the geography, it was easy to find. A car is essential and care needs to be taken on some of the single track roads because of on-coming vehicles around blind bends.

The cottage was very conveniently situated for our holiday. Buxton which is a 10 minute drive away has two large supermarkets, 3 small ones and an abundance of restaurants - we particularly liked the Lone Star bar & grill but would advise booking. There are also many great excursions that can all be reached within 30 minutes drive of the cottage - walking the Monsal Trail, Treak Cliff cavern, Alton Towers and even an excellent go-karting circuit.

At the end of a busy day it was a pleasure coming back to the peace of Vicarage cottage. Mark the owner was easy to get hold of if needed and we would happily stay at the cottage again.

Very homely cottage

The cottage is very homely and the owner has taken the trouble to make it so; it also has character. We were a family of four (14 and 10 yr old) and it is as spacious as it appeared in the photos. It is also well equipped. We thoroughly enjoyed its peaceful and serene location, with hardly any vehicles passing through the entire week. There are some lovely walks from the door so the car can be left behind; the view from Chrome Hill is expansive and breathtaking. We also enjoyed the dairy cows from the next door farm filing pas twice a day for the first part of the week. We hope to return in the future!

Beautiful spot in the Peaks

Very pretty cottage on the edge of The Peak National Park, great base for exploring the fantastic countryside.

Very quaint cottage, had pretty much everything you could need.

I have a couple of grumbles, some of the information leaflets were extremely out of date and it would have been nice to have maps of some of the walks close to the cottage.

There was a rather overwhelming smell of damp in the cupboard in the lounge which had made the beddIng for the sofa rather unpleasant to use.

But overall we had a wonderful visit and a thorough fantastic holiday

Very characterful cottage in an extremely attractive setting.

Unfortunately we had to cut short our intended week's stay because of an unexpected death in the family, and apart from one good day in Buxton, we were unable to achieve our other planned outings.
