About Caroline Ely
We are an active couple in our sixties who love to be outdoors hiking, kayaking, bicycling! We love our cozy cottage on Casco Bay and enjoy spending time there visiting with our son, daughter-in-law and grandchild.
Caroline Ely purchased this Cottage in 2014
Why Caroline Ely chose Freeport
Maine is a wonderful place to spend some time with so many activities in all four seasons. We are just 1.8 miles from the LLBean Paddling Center and just 3 miles from Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park which has wonderful hiking trails and amazing views of Casco Bay and its islands. It's a short drive into the center of Freeport with its many restaurants and shops, including the well known LLBean, as well as our favorite Patagonia outlet!
What makes this Cottage unique
Quiet and peaceful. Our home is nestled at the end of a dead end street in a lovely neighborhood. It is surrounded by woods, salt marshes and Casco Bay. The only noise will be the many birds!

Oh so stylish!! What a beautiful property! Loved EVERYTHING about this wonderful cottage!
This stunning cottage is located in a lovely quiet neighborhood. The owners bent over backwards to get the cottage ready for us despite the challenges of the snow! It was warm, beautifully furnished and we felt completely at home! The beds were very comfortable, the bathrooms luxurious, the kitchen well stocked (except we needed crackers & picks for our lobster dinner) and the heating was really easy to operate by remote control! We had an absolutely wonderful time and the tour I gave my parents, via Skype in England, made my mum want to move in!! We would not hesitate to stay here again! Thanks SO MUCH, Caroline!
So glad you enjoyed out cottage! Can't believe we missed the crackers and picks. We'll be there this week and will be sure to get some for the house.
Wonderful, peaceful home
We spent over a week at this home and absolutely loved it! It is super nice inside and out. The kitchen is well stocked with cookware and staples. The bathrooms and bedrooms are very comfortable, as are the living areas. There is a great selection of books to read. Being right on the water was perfect. Enjoying morning coffee and evening cocktails on the back deck looking down at the cove was splendid! Watching the tide roll in and out every day was one of my favorite things to do. We loved seeing the many different birds along the shore and in the water. During high tide we enjoyed swiming in the cove (bring your water shoes)! The dogs loved playing ball and lounging in the large yard too. Hiking the trails in nearby Wolfe's Neck State Park was a lot of fun and provided amazing views. The location of the home can't be beat. Portland is less than an hour away and was a great place to visit for a day and to get some fresh seafood to bring back to cook. Freeport is a few miles away for restaurants, shopping, and Bow Street Market. We found good places to eat in Brunswick and Yarmouth too. When you are at the house though, it's private and peaceful. The owner was super easy to work with and answered my questions quickly. Over all, we loved this home and hope to return soon! Thank you Caroline for letting us enjoy your wonderful home with our pups!
Nice stay in the Freeport area.
Modern, comfortable house. Well appointed. Everything about the house was very satisfactory. We had a very pleasant stay.
Caroline, thanks so much! We loved your home and your hospitality!
I have rented numerous homes through HomeAway and this was the best. It was perfect for a family get together because it was so open. The view out the back was beautiful and it was pretty secluded.
So glad you enjoyed your stay!
Cozy home with beautiful views
We recently had to come to town for a family funeral and thought we would like some place more homey than a hotel. Luckily we found this listing on short notice and the owner was graciously even able to accommodate a last minute schedule change.
First of all, the house is beautifully decorated—I was oohing and ahhing! My favorite piece was the cute antique wash stand in the first floor bath—but there were many charming touches like this. We had arrived late at night after dining at Tuscan Brick Oven restaurant in Freeport (a MUST try) so we did not get to see the beautiful scenery that evening, but the house was easy to find in the dark with no GPS using directions provided. The beds were quite comfortable with nice linens and the heat pumps provided ample heating on the chilly night once they got going. When we awoke the next morning we were stunned by the beautiful views of the bay right out the window. We even saw some large wild turkeys out for a morning stroll in the yard.
I haven’t been to Freeport in several years and so much has changed but we did enjoy checking out the shops and especially enjoyed hot coffee and donuts at Frosty’s on Main Street! My daughter got to see Santa at LL Bean, too. A happy surprise! The house was much closer to the main drag than I thought it would be, so that was nice not having to spend too much time in the car to get around.
This was the perfect place to call home for a few days under the sad circumstances but we felt very peaceful there. The winter pricing was extremely reasonable! (Not sure if it is same in summer season.) My only sadness was the house isn’t bigger to accommodate another stay this summer season with our extended family! Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us.
So glad you enjoyed your stay in our home! Thank you for the lovely comments.
Freeport is a real shopping mecca centered around the vast stores of LLBean which is open 24/7 except on Christmas! The LLBean Paddling Center is just 1.8 miles down the road from our house.
