'La Haiziere is a traditional stone farmhouse set in 7 acres of beautiful Normandy countryside. The interior is of traditional design with a contemporary twist, offering both a stylish interior with all mod cons while retaining the wonderful antique qualities of the original features.
Spend summer around the pool or winter in front of the glowing fire, enjoy the frosty spring mornings or apples in the orchard in autumn. Any time of year is great to be here.
Enjoy the flexibility of self catering or take a break from the kitchen and let us prepare you a home cooked meal, just let us know.
The farm offers the perfect holiday for children and grown up children too! We have ponies and chickens and helpers to feed and groom are always welcomed. You will discover an ideal space to relax and unwind from the stresses and strains of modern day living.
We provide all bedding and bedlinen. Towels are also included and are changed halfway through your stay.
Our Farmhouse is located in an area of natural beauty with many places of interest close at hand. The extremely popular Mont St Michel is nearby and the fascinating and historic WW2 Normandy beaches an hours drive. Visit Fougeres and its castle or treat yourself to a spa at the thermal baths in Bagnoles de l'Orne. There are many beautiful and uncrowded beaches along the Manche and neighboring Brittany coast. Your children could never be bored with the brilliant theme parks and fun pools in close proximity. If walking or cycling is your passion then you can follow the miles of safe off road foot and cycle paths. Perhaps your fancy may turn to a gourmet meal at the famous Moulin de Jean restaurant or a simply scrumptious dish of moules mariner at the lovely seaside village of Cancale. A holiday spent in Normandy will be a memory to treasure and we will do all we can to make your stay with us as comfortable and welcoming as possible
What a fantastic week we have had! The farm was fantastic - just enough to keep our 19 month old amused chasing the chickens and talking to the dogs, horses and cats when he could. A peaceful setting in accommodation that allows you to feel right at home. Brilliantly equipped and comfortable, catering for all our needs.
Kathy anf John were lovely - they and their family made us feel really welcome, providing some lovely touches such as welcome drinks and fresh eggs from the chickens.
A lovely area to visit and although we spent most of our time chilling out in the immediate area it is a fantastic base from which you can visit a whole host of gorgeous sites. Thank you again for our lovely holiday.
We only spent 4 days at the barn and wish we had spent more time here. The owners were very welcoming with plenty of advice on where to visit and eat out. The barm was of a very high standard and we enjoyed a couple of BBQ's in excellent weather. We also enjoyed the animals and the dogs and cats were also very welcoming.. We want to come again and will do so. We enjoyed visiting Avranches, Granville and St Michaels mount all of which were very nice places to visit. Many thanks for a great few days..
We have just spent an enjoyable week at La Haiziere. The barn has been considerately renovated to high standard accomodation. All neccesities were provided and more, and it was nice to return home to from days out exploring the region. John and Kathy were excellent hosts and a hand to provided local advice and let our son ( and us) meet their menagerie of animals.
We found the barn a great location in rural Normandy to visit D-day beaches, Avranches, St Hilaire, Vire, Mortain, Granville and Mont St Michel, and then for chill time watching the sun go down from the deck with a nice barbeque or glass of wine. The location is very peaceful and tranquil for nice rest and relaxation but not far from towns and shops for exploring.
We found the property well equiped for our 9 month old son, and was well equiped for older toddlers and children. Likewise it was spacious enough for mum and dad to have relaxing time at night, without disturbing your littleones. We would gladly re book this property should the opporunity arise.
We had a wonderful two weeks spent at this beautiful barn converstion, it was exactly as described and pictured - in fact it was even better. John and Kathy were excellent at making you feel welcome and letting you know throughout your stay if there was anything that they could help you with or needed.
Everything has been provided for in the kitchen, making it very easy to prepare your own meals, should you not be tempted by the many eateries just a short drive away.
The farm environment is lovely for children and adults alike. Regularly watching the ponies and chickens roam free is an enjoyment to watch. The pool is an added bonus when you want to cool down, and the kids love it rain or shine!
There are so many beautiful places to visit in Normandy, which we managed to get some covered. A must is a visit to the D Day Landings, Mortain for the waterfalls, Domfront, Avranches, Rennes to name but a few.
We will definately be making a return visit and fingers crossed it will be a similar time next year.
Thanks again Kathy and John for making our Summer Holiday 2009 special Dan, Alison, David & Richard.
PS Hope to see you same time next year.
We loved stay in this house. Very frendly ouners. Clean house, well equipped.
My family drove down to John and Kathy's gite this Easter hols and were delighted with the modern facilities on site. The property is well maintained and our hosts were very helpful. My 5-yr-old had a whale of a time feeding my entire supply of carrots to the ponies and horses on site!
We didn't have good weather to begin with but spent a 3N\3D weekend checking out southern Normandy and northern Brittany. It's ideally situated and an easy drive to Mont St Michel (30 mins), Cancale for the oysters (1 hour), stunning St Malo (1 hr 20 mins), Avranches and its markets and museums (20 mins) and the nearest beach (30 mins). Check out Mont Dol and Dol-de-Bretagne (along the way) as these are interesting areas to visit as well.
Go to Caen (1 hr 15 mins) to see the Normandy D-Day landing sites and visited memorials especially the American war memorial at the close of day. Walk through bombed out German bunkers and watched a 20 minute movie of the war at the 360degree museum in Arromanches. Moving. It is an amazing sight seeing floating pontoons out at sea, a sad historical sight, slowly sinking out of memory. Towns like Carentan and Ste-Mere-Eglise give new meaning to war documentaries one might catch on the History Channel on the tv.
We hate hotels so coming back to the gite daily was like coming home!
