|Minimum Stay||2 - 7 nights|
The 17th century house Can Giubert with its large walled Mediterranean garden is situated on the outskirts of the small village of Sant Climent Sescebes (less than 500 inhabitants). We offer a beautifully stylish and modern renovated apartment suitable for 2 to 6 persons within the house with its own private entrance, self-catering and roof terrace. It is an ideal place for people who want to enjoy a quiet and inspiring place, while staying close to all the main attractions this region has to offer.
The interior of the apartment is designed and manufactured by a furniture designer and maker, and is created with care and an eye for detail, using only natural and local materials. Solar panels provide hot water for showers and floor heating.
The spacious and light living room has a roof terrace that has a view of Figueres on one side and the Pyrenees on the other.
Gastronomy and spa: There are several good wine-houses in the area. Among them is one of our neighbours, Marti Fabra, who makes beautiful wines earning him a high ranking from Robert Parker. His most famous red wine is called Masia Carreres and can be bought just over the road.
In the villages surrounding Sant Climent there are good restaurants to be found: among them are Ca la Maria and La reina de Portlligat in Mollet de Peralada, Cal Sagrista in Perelada and Flor de Pagès in Capmany. If you prefer a restaurant with a sea view there is (among others) the restaurant on Platja Garbet (Llança) with its fish specialities or Miramar (Llança), a Michelin star restaurant.
Gastronomic specialities in this region are focused on the combination of mountain and seafood products known as 'mar i montanya'.
One of our other neighbours is a beauty salon. Besides a hairdresser, they offer all kinds of beauty treatments.
France / Castles and monastries: Very near to Sant Climent is the Requesens castle that is situated in the heart of the Albera Natural Park and surrounded by wild nature. The continuous use of the castle has made it possible to preserve the different buildings although they have also suffered some modifications. The last use of the castle was by soldiers from the civil war and it is possible to feel the atmosphere they left.
Vilabertran (near Figueres) was a very important monastery in the midle ages, and a romanesque jewel.
Sant Quirze de Colera is a 12th century monastry nearby Ràbos in plain nature.
Sant Pere de Rhodes, 10th century, near Port de la Selva, has a stunning view over the sea.
Banyuls sur Mer is nearby, and on the French coastline, villages such as Collioure offer you a different entourage and gastronomy.
Ceret has its own 'Museé d'Art Moderne' and many art galleries.
The medieval town of Perpignan also has several interesting museums, not forgetting its cathedral, churches and chapels
The village Sant Climent and things to do: In Sant Climent there is a bakery (wood-oven baked bread), supermarket, chemist, bank, butcher, beautysalon, hairdresser, winehouse, 2 simple restaurants, 3 bars and a garage.
Walking in the direct surroundings of Sant Climent, you can see dolmens and menhirs, impressive megalithic monuments .
In the neighbour-village Espolla (2 km) there is a public outdoor swimmingpool with pinetrees that provide shade.
The historic village of Peralada, with gardens, lake, castle, moat and golf-course and casino is 11 km away. In summer the Peralada festival is famous for its numerous open air music-concerts and dance-performances.
Jazz festivals in Figueres and in the botanic garden at Cap Roig offer concerts at warm summer nights.
In the coast-village Rosas are several activities to visit: a kart-court, aquabrava (a water-paradise-swimmingpool) and a Thalasso-centre.
In Castelló d'Empuries there is a Butterfly Park, in Gariguella the Mediterranean Turtle Centre.
Since 2004 we live in Spain with our 3 sons. I am an artist-photographer-teacher and guide for the Foundation Gala--salvador Dalí! Surrealism fascinates me. I love catalan culture and enjoying the nature that surrounds us.
With great care, my husband designed and made the interior of the apartment. We love to be able to share this beautiful place with our guests.
Petra Vlasman purchased this apartment in 1999
We were attracted by the tranquility of the village and the aproximity of the beautiful pre-Pyrenees. The spacious house with the big garden makes village-life even more enjoyable.
The apartment is unique in its combination of the original 17th century atmosphere with modern and minimalistic elements. It is light, there are high ceilings, lots of beautiful details, original furniture, and a comfortable sofa and furniture!
We really loved our stay and we thank you for your good care and nice advices. It helped us to see the lovely region in all its diversity.
The restaurants you mentioned was great, I wish we had one that close to our house!
Thanks Again Petra!
We are a family with two young teenagers, 2 dogs and lots of visitors and for all of us staying at Martin and Petras summer house is a pleasure!
Petra, Martin as well as the kids are excellent host, very discrete who "magically" appear to solve (minor) problems when/if needed.
The house, is well designed, confortable and offers us all the commodities needed.
Sant Clement is a small, quiet rural village surrounded by lovely countryside, offering the charm of quiet rural life (has several "home cooking" bar/restaurants, a supermarket and a football pitch), but offers endless possibilites of walks, especially near the river, close contact to local wineries, and very convient to access all sorts of beachs in aprox. 20km distance, as well larger towns such as Figueras, Girona.
This was the 3rd time we have spent our holliday at Can Giubert, and we are all very much looking forward to the next one!
Thank you Petra, Martin, Tino, Chavi, Luis, + Luna and Snoopy for your kind hospitality ;)

We are a family from Munich, on a little road trip through Europe.
The appartment in Petra's little haven is simply outstanding. It is all and even more than what you see on the photos. Perfectly equipped with washing machine, dish washer, state of the art gas stove, bath tub as well as shower, separate toilet, a lovely fireplace for a rainy day (or Tramontana :-) - all in all just perfect.
And can you imagine, there is central floor heating in the whole appartment, from the bathroom via the kitchen and the big living room into both the sleeping rooms - especially great in the colder months of the year.
It is quiet (with a separate entrance) and has a very serene, uplifting atmosphere. The roof terrace is another great asset. There was nothing that we would have missed !!!
The owners are warm hearted and always attentive to any needs. We had to visit a Pediatra for our little daughter and Petra the owner organised it all for us, just an example.
Sant Climent is located some 15 minutes from Figueras, nestled within the gentle hills that pave the way towards the Pyrenees. It is very serene indeed in this corner of the world. We made some great day trips, the best of which to Cadaques - just after a Tramontana storm had sweapt over the region so the sky was bright and the light of a rare intensity and clarity - what a beaufiful day in Cadaques. Figueras as well as Girona are just a day trip. The golden beaches of Roses are some 20 mins away.
All in all we just loved the whole week at Can Giubert and are very much looking foreward to coming back one day.
It is by far the best appartment that we stayed in on our whole trip, i.e. some 15 different locations.

We had a wonderful stay in San Climent. The apartment is well equipped with nice furniture made by the owner. From the first night on we had a feeling of being at home. We visited during the grape harvest, which is an exciting time for the village. It made our stay even more special.
The surrounding area is good for walks, the beach is not too far and the restaurants and wines of the region are great.
A big thank you to Petra and Martijn.
We just returned from our stay in Spain and our four days at the rented apartment. The owners seemed very pleasant we saw them about 4 times during our stay . The apartment in our opinion could have used a better cleaning. There were cobwebs under the furniture, the couch surface had stains on it, the oven had a greasy tray in it, the kitchen floor was dirty(stains), the kitchen counters felt gritty and dusty. The kitchen was fairly equipped. They had one frying pan that was not the cleanest (we ended up buying our own, plus some fresh olive oil and vinegar). The rest of the kitchen equipment was fine. My shower with the little lizard was OK. I didn't mind until I slipped on the bathroom floor as I was running out of the shower.
The beds in our opinion were suitable. Although if you are both tall people it was a bit difficult sleeping in the main bedroom together.
If you don't mind a barking dog right outside your window then you will be OK. We think the dog was guarding the winery that was right across the street (hope you don't mind the smell of fermentation). The dog barked well into the early morning hours. We would have close the windows but it was very hot during our stay. And even with them closed you could still here the guard dog and all his friend responding.
The location was good to places we wanted to visit. The little village it was in was quaint. We used the butcher shop every day we were there. We did our own breakfasts and dinner so I guess that is why the kitchen was an important part of our stay and we expected it to be at least clean.
The terrace up stairs was perfect. The moon was full while we were there and a perfect way to end our day with a glass of wine.
All in all it was a lovely place and I hope the owners do not get offended by our post. They seemed like lovely people. We just wanted to be as accurate as we could.
Sant Climent Sescebes is conveniently and peacefully situated in the north of Catalonia, close to all the main attractions.
It is a small typical Catalan village, surrounded by vineyards and olive groves.
The north side of Sant Climent Sescebes borders the mountains, the Albera Natural Park, with plenty of possibilities to enjoy unspoilt nature. This park has been nominated for UNESCO world heritage.
The nearby coast offers quiet beaches, often hidden in small rocky coves, and the Cap de Creus Natural Park.
In the nearby picturesque villages you can find expressions of (Catalan) culture; good restaurants, wine-houses, music festivals, local festivals, monastries, castles and megalithic monuments.
The Alt Emporda has always been a favourite spot for artists, the exceptional combination of mountain and marine scenery has inspired many.
Among others, the artist Salvador Dali left his traces in the Dali museums in Figueres, Cadaqués and Púbol.
Other Activities: Falconry, birdwatching, quad-riding
Golf: There are several golf options within a close distance of Sant Climent Sescebes. The Perelada Golf course is only a 15 minute drive away 'golf peralada' with an 18 hole par 71 golf course it has been recognised as the best on the Costa Brava. The other alternative is 'torremirona' which is about 25 minutes away and has an 18 hole golf course par 72 .
