In a region with such a large ocean front, the Algarve offers almost every activity you can think of related to (the use of) water. Also for the ones who are not particularly keen to be in or around water, there are plenty of activities to spend a wonderful time in the Algarve! Read below a wide selection of leisure- and sport activities : Fishing, Swimming, Cycling, Golf, Horse Riding, Jeep Safaris, Mountain Biking, Wind and Kite Surfing, Diving, Tennis, Walking, Jet ski, Parasailing, Water Ski, Sailing, (Lawn)Bowling, Deep-Ocean Fishing, Karting, Dolphin- and Bird Watching, Speedboat-, Catamaran- and Sailing Boat Rentals, Ultralight Flights, Mini-Golf, etc. Water parks, zoos, family parks (Zoo Marine, Aquashow and Krazy World) as well as several museums invite to trips. Further interesting activities, Gypsy markets, exhibitions and other important information for the holiday-maker you can find in the weekly magazine 'Algarve Resident' and 'Viva Algarve' (available at supermarkets).
Shopping in Portimao:
Portimao, the Algarve’s second biggest city, offers everything to make a shopping heart beat faster. From small boutiques, crafts and art shops to shopping malls, there’s something of interest for everyone (except for some men maybe). In the historical centre there is a huge pedestrian area, narrow streets and several squares invite to wander around in good atmosphere. The kilometres long boulevard in front of the famous Praia da Rocha beach is packed with all sorts of shops. Along the Arade River, going land inwards from the Portimao Marina (harbour), another kilometres long boulevard is currently created, linking the Marina and Praia da Rocha with the historical centre. Several shopping malls, Lidl and Plus are to be found along the double lane access road to Praia da Rocha. Spread throughout the city, smaller supermarkets, butchers and bakeries complete the wide range of shopping possibilities Portimao has to offer. Almost all shops are open 7 days a week.
Golf is definitively the most popular sport in the Algarve, no wonder when realising the climatological conditions all year round and the exceptional beauty of lay outs (most of them by famous international golf architects) and surroundings. Read below a selection of 4 excellent golf courses in your region out of the Algarve' approximately 35 golf courses; Palmares Course: the breathtaking scenery can be appreciated from most of the course, with views over the Alvor river estuary, beaches and the bay of Lagos. There are 5 authentic links holes amongst the dunes close to the ocean exposed to the prevailing winds. Other holes throughout hillsides and valleys full of trees. Penina Course: it has hosted the Portuguese open 8 times and is built on flattish parkland terrain with fairways lined by countless trees and with tricky water hazards. Also several long par-3 and par-4 holes, requiring both length and accuracy. Alto Course: it boasts a majestic site overlooking the ocean and with views inland towards the Monchique hills. Some 10.000 trees were planted on the course and have attracted a large variety of birds. The course is not overly difficult and can be enjoyed by golfers of all standards. Golf do Morgado; recently opened, almost a 1000 acres, making it the biggest golf course in the Algarve. Beautiful scenery, pure nature, no villas/apartments but 6 lakes, hills, valleys, 1000's of olive, carob and fig trees, the unspoilt Algarve!
Fed up with being battered by floats and armbands in the pool? Among the eye-catching features of the four-bedroom Villa Monte Canelas is a children’s pool, separated from the placid waters of your own adults-only cool-off by a wooden lounging area. But the segregation won’t last: there’s an enormous dining table that seats 10, an eight-seat outdoor sofa and an oversized LCD TV, around which you can all gather for movie nights. Other perks include a Wii console, a DVD player, a hammock and a spacious enclosed lawn with a spice garden. What’s nearby? Does it matter?
This property is unique, you cannot find easily villas like that. The villa is perfect for families with children: it has one little pool and the house has just the ground floor, you will not find neither a step. Beyound this, the living room has huge windows to the pools and garden, which is perfect to keep an eye on your children. The most villas in Algarve have several floors, becoming wearing and incovenient. Here is different and I'm sure that will love.
The villa was perfect. Beautifully laid out and all on the ground floor which was perfect for our baby who has just started walking. Kids loved both pools and was great to dip in as the weather was so hot. Layout, location and facilities were all great - everything we needed was supplied.
Superb, clean and well maintained villa - great contact with the owner Augusto.
Garden was fabulous - couldn't fault anything inside or out.
I would definitely recommend this villa to friends and family - it was a great place to stay and excellent location just a short drive into Alvor or Portimao. We would love to come back.
We really enjoyed your fabulous and well equiped house. We were with 7 persons and our grandson, a 2 years old. Beds are wonderfull, bathrooms handy with so many people. Warmed swimmingpool was wonderfull. A beautiful garden with trees, palms and bushes. We had a little bit of trouble with the electricity and the main fuses dropped out. Within a few hours it was all fixed by the electricians. In spite of the weather we enjoyed our holiday. We really had to look out for the sun near the coast because we had to deal with heavy rain showers and partly Ray's of sun. Probably were were not lucky with the weather but enjoyed our stay in this wonderful villa.
We got a very warm welcome from Augusto's Mum, who was waiting for us on arrival, and it was lovely to meet his Aunt during our stay. First impressions are amazing, an impressive spacious villa with lovely gardens. It is in a fairly remote upmarket residential area so a car is essential and there is ample secure parking space for several cars available within the grounds. The villa is light and airy, with plenty of household goods and utensils. There was no shortage of anything. The furnishings and decoration are an interesting eclectic mix and there was lots of information available about trips and places to visit, unfortunately none in English. Emails to Augusto were promptly answered and attended to and we definitely hope to go back there again. I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this villa as long as you like lovely accommodation in a peaceful, fairly isolated location.
As we arrived at the Villa the first time we have been speechless.
The nice modern building sourrounded by the large well-groomed garden with palms, fruit trees and the big pool was absolutely awesome.
Augusto's mum, Gilberta, welcomed us so lovely that we really felt like coming home.
The Villa is furnished so specially and comfortable and there was nothing we missed.
We visited a lot of Villas around Europe but never had such a property before.
The pool lounge and the hammock were so relaxing and we used it every day due to the great weather. It was like a little paradise.
Our two little dogs Roxy & Kalle have been feeling home from the moment they stepped their paws into the villa. They loved walking around the huge property and we could hardly convince them to fly home with us ;)
We would love to come back again some day!
We had the best time staying at this fantastic villa. The garden is very beautiful and spacious. What worked well for our group was the fact that hardcore sun worshippers could occupy the sun loungers and those who liked it cooler could hang out under the trees and yet we all felt altogether. The near constant breeze made the tree zone perfect for yoga. Our top tip would be to buy oranges from the stalls by the road near Alvor and enjoy daily fresh juice in the villa - a real treat. We've booked up already for next year - says it all!
The Villa lived up to the very high expectations that were set following the ST article - which was the reason we booked this Villa for a relaxing week.
Very good value for money and we look forward to coming again - albeit I suspect it will probably be booked up already!
Thank you Augusto (& your Mum) for making this a fantastic relaxing holiday for us - just what we all needed.
This magnificent detached villa is located in Portimão, west Algarve, in a very calm residential area nearby Penina and Morgado do Regengo golf courses and 10 km driving from the beaches and 5 km from the city mall.
