Located in an exclusive area of Hilo, the RiverHouse Hide-Away is nestled in a tropical river setting on a nearly-one-acre estate. A crystal-clear river meanders through the property year 'round, and is complemented by a carpet-like lawn, majestic trees and beautiful blooms.
The Hide-Away is a separate spacious unit on the first floor of this fine example of a 1948-vintage, traditional 'plantation-style' Hilo home. Your hosts, Glenn and Mozella, welcome you to their home, and will be just upstairs and will be available for your questions. There is a completely separate entrance and patio area for your privacy. Your living room, tastefully appointed in a tropical motif, is a warm and inviting space. The fully equipped kitchen includes a full size refrigerator and full size electric range/oven. There are some wonderful local restaurants just down the hill to enjoy.
Dine to the sweet sound of the gentle rapids, whether you are inside or out. An entertainment center with cable TV, VCR and DVD players is there for you, with a stereo that plays tapes and CDs. Wireless and cable RoadRunner high-speed Internet services are also provided.
Enjoy your own private lanai, with a barbecue, patio furnishings and loungers, for dining out by the river or just soaking up some sun! The house sits at 800 feet elevation, above flood and hurricane zones.
The bedroom features a king bed and lots of nicely-crafted built-ins. We provide luxury hotel linens as well as a hypoallergenic alternative down pillow-top. There is also a full laundry for your use.
Because of insurance liability, at this time, the Riverhouse Hide-Away is for adult guests only. The Hide-Away is a Strictly Non-Smoking Retreat.
Right in town, the RiverHouse Hide-Away is only minutes away from beautiful beach parks and everything Hilo has to offer. Theaters, UH-Hilo, Imiloa Astronomy Center, restaurants, surfing, kayak rentals, an amazing Farmer's Market, museums, guided walks, and much more, are just a few of these offers!

We are residents of the Big Island, having moved from Texas in April 2012. We love our new home, city, and state. We can't wait to share them all with you!

The moment we saw and felt the peaceful beautiful river flowing in the backyard of the RiverHouse, we were hooked!
Certainly the most unique feature of the RiverHouse is our pure spring river. A spectacular vintage house with modern appointments and great views just up the hill from downtown Hilo and local beaches, 30 minute drive to the volcano, a little longer drive to some of the most unusual beaches in the world--what more could a Hilo vacactioner want?
When my husband and I got our first look at the river running through the yard that gives River House Hideaway it's name, we knew we'd found something special. And when we walked through the front door, we wondered how we were ever going to pry ourselves away!
The River House made the perfect base for our Hilo area stay. Spotlessly clean, it had all the amenities we needed, including plenty of towels and a well-equipped kitchen, though to be honest, we didn't do much real cooking. Location-wise, it's very convenient to downtown Hilo and the waterfront, several big supermarkets, Target, and a multiplex cinema.
Nighttime sounds included the music of the Coqui frogs and the murmur of rain and river. It made for wonderful, restorative sleep. My only caveat is to be mindful of the mosquitoes. I made the mistake of going outside to the riverbank in the early morning to snap some pictures. I got eaten alive!!! Lesson learned!
We have family in Hilo, and so most times we stay with them, but when that's not possible, like our most recent visit, we will definitely consider returning to The River House Hideaway. Thank you Mozella and Glenn.
My husband kept telling me to stop expecting so much from the description given but he was overwhelmed when we arrived to see the river running through the property. It was a gorgeous place and the house was very comfortable. We slept very well and were able to have some meals outdoors in the lanai and enjoy the gorgeous property. I gently scolded the owners for having such an exceptional place because it was difficult to tear ourselves away and see the sights that Hilo had to offer when all we wanted to do was stay put. Mahalo!
We love the coqui frogs, and the River House has it's share. It is so Hilo! The River House is an amazing, quiet, beautiful home. We love the tropical forest setting and of course, the river that flows through the back yard. We will be going back...again! Mozola and Glenn are fantastic hosts.
This was our second time staying at the River House....can't wait to come back again. We live in Kona and it is such a nice getaway. Very comfortable and everything you need. The owners and wonderful and very hospitable. Never slept better in our life!! Loved our walks in the neighborhood with the meandering streams.
A total delight!!!! You will not be disappointed!!!! A week was not enough....Thanks to Mozella and Glenn!!!

Only 10 minutes from historic Hilo, we ended each day of exploring with a glass of wine on the patio. We had our own private tropical paradise with a mountain stream 20 yards away. Inside the main room was large and furnished with tropical furniture with a large TV and great sound system. The bath room was small, but vary adequate. Our bedroom had lots of storage and closet space. The king sized bed had the best mattress we had on our trip. We had many of our meals on the patio with grilled fresh fish on the BBQ. This is a great place for a longer stay.
We stayed at the Riverhouse HideAway and we had a wonderful stay. The first night we got there it was raining so hard and it was very dark. Mozela came out to greet us with an umbrella and help us find our way to the back where our entrance was. So nice! The bedroom was clean and cozy as was the rest of the house. There were little notes to help us find our way around the rental. When we got up the next morning...well that was when we were in love with our rental. The backyard was beautiful and the river wasn't a little stream but was quite large! Running all the way though the backyard down the mountain. Breathtaking to say the least! The landscaping was amazing well taken care of and the flowers were gorgeous. I must say for this time of year, I felt we had the best flowers in all of Hilo, after driving around town and hardly seeing any flowers.
Originally, I had been a bit concerned with the owners living upstairs but it was not an issue at all! We had family come to hang out a couple of times during our stay and they loved it. The only thing was the small driveway. I think I missed the turn about 80% of the time and had to turn back around. But that's my fault for not paying attention. I would definitely go back and rent this rental again. It was a great find! Thank you Mozela and Glen!
