We spent 2 weeks in France. The first week in Sarlat, the second week in Paris. If I could do it over, I would stay in Sarlat for 2 weeks. A very beautiful region with interesting history, great food and nice people. The house was perfect. Charming, quiet, comfortable and the pool was great. Loved that it was walking distance to town. We will be back.

Xanthe personifies 'Ms Guest Services'! We were 3 couples from Breckenridge, CO and were warmly greeted by Xanthe. She had so many great ideas where to go, what to do, etc. She is from England so we had no language issues. The house was charming and just as shown in the pictures. The location was so beautiful and so quiet for being right in the middle of town. Unfortunately, it was unseasonably cold so we couldn't use the pool, but we sure did enjoy the fireplace! So highly recommend this home!!!!
Please note that as we have 3 houses with the same or similar facilities all within the same Sarlat and Beynac area, our availability calendar shows when all of our houses are reserved, so if a date is shown as available we do have 1, 2 or all 3 of our houses available for that date.
I also have the details on a couple of other similar homes in the area, so if this does not suit you I can forward on the details of the other houses, both have large 10x5m pools and can accommodate between 4-10 guests. Both are very reasonably priced for the facilities offered and within 5 minutes of Sarlat, Domme, Beynac, Roque Gageac and the Dordogne river.
We moved to France with our children 15 years ago and have lived & worked in the hospitality industry in the Sarlat area since then. We ran our own small hotel and restaurant in Beynac for 6 years and are proud to tell you that we were listed in many International guide books, including Rick Steves, Alistair Sawdays and the Guide du Routard. We sold this business in the summer of 2006, and after listening to the needs of our restaurant and hotel guests we started our holiday rental home business. We now have 3 wonderful vacation rental houses in prime locations in central Sarlat & Beynac which are available to rent all year round. As we live locally, we are your first point of contact if you need help with anything, you will be able to draw on our vast local knowledge, which has been acquired over many years, to make the most of your stay in this wonderful area. You will find that each of our houses can offer you the very best in location, amenities & comfort, whether you are over looking the Dordogne river & 4 Chateaux or strolling through the Medieval streets of Sarlat. Be assured that we are responsive to our guests needs; many of whom come back year after year & have become firm friends, they are more than happy to recommend us to their family & friends. We will offer you the best service that we possibly can to ensure that your holiday is a memorable one for all the right reasons!!
WHY THIS PROPERTY?
Travellers rated this house one of the best!
Xanthe Eadie purchased this house in 2007
Location, period stone cottage in the centre of town, large mature garden, large in-ground pool, all ensuite bedrooms......
We have three beautiful holiday homes, one in central Sarlat, one in central Beynac (wonderful house which over looks 4 Chateaux and the Dordogne river!) and a 16thC farmhouse which has been recently added to our portfolio after a 150,000 Euros refurb. It has a heated salt water pool, ensuite bedrooms, fully equipped kitchen with granite tops and travertine flooring and all the facilities that our other homes offer and it is located just 2 miles from the centre of Sarlat in a tranquil bucolic setting.
Both our Sarlat and Beynac homes have been our own family home since we moved to France 16 years ago and we now offer them for others to enjoy. All three houses are private and you will have sole use of the house, garden and pool, they all have their own off road private parking and ensuite bedrooms. As we now live only 5 minutes drive from both Sarlat and Beynac we are on hand for any queries that you may have during your stay so you can be assured of the best of care & assistance if needed.
The Sarlat & Beynac houses are within a 2-5 minute easy level stroll of restaurants, cafes and wonderful boulangeries selling the best croissants and baguettes. There are Farmers Food Markets each day of the week in the surrounding towns and villages and a twice weekly street market in Sarlat which also has a daily covered market by the main Square. Here you will find the local farmers selling their freshly harvested produce, including organic bread, fruits, vegetables, cheeses and creams. During the summer months there is a daily variety of street entertainment in Sarlat which is free to watch and sometimes participate in ! Our new holiday home is within walking distance of a bar & restaurant and great take away pizzeria with twice weekly live music during July and August and is only a 2 minute car journey into bustling Sarlat.
Please enquire for details and photos of our other houses using the 'contact the owner' tab for this house.
The house, the town and the region were so much more than we expected.
We loved the comfortable rooms and made good use of the well equipped kitchen.
Thanks for the recommendations for eating out - we ate at the Octroi twice, had a great meal at the Petit Manoir and our best meal was in Domme at L'Esplanade over looking the Dordogne river Valley. Both the food and view were excellent!
It was great being so close to the cave paintings and we enjoyed the beautiful French fall weather.
Thank you Xanthe and Hamish for sharing your wonderful house and village with us..........We will take warm memories back to California with us.
'We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay in this house and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone who is looking for a relaxing house in Sarlat.
Walking to the boulangerie in the morning for fresh croissants, all the
shops, food market and restaurants is a big bonus. We followed the owners recommendations for eating out and the Bistro a 2 minute walk from the front gate is superb and great value for money.
The owners are brilliant and couldn't have been more helpful sorting out our lost luggage and car hire for us. They even arranged for bike hire to be delivered to our door. We found that everything that we needed during our stay had been provided. This is a well thought out holiday home from home'.
Delightful house with three en-suite bedroom that is ideally located for exploring the whole of the Dordogne. It is at the top of the main shopping street in Sarlat with easy walking to all the shops, restaurants and attractions in Sarlat.
Good location as all areas can be access by car without driving through the town centre, which can be busy on market days.
Truly a great place to stay.
The house suited our family of 4 perfectly. The owner (Xanthe) had the slow combustion wood heater going so it was toasty worm when we arrived. He was an excellent communicator in the booking phase and lead up to our stay. The free Wifi kept our two teenage sons happy when we were not out taking in the many sightseeing opportunities in and around Sarlat. The house itself has been refurbished and was clean, comfortable and had all that you need in terms of equipment and appliances. It is in a very quiet location, being set well back from the quiet street, but yet is only a 5 minute walk into the centre of town. Xanthe ensured our security bond was returned promptly. I cannot recommend this house too highly. A great place to stay!!!
We have stayed in this house for 6 weeks over the last two years and we will return again. Everything is as advertised and the reviews on this site are correct. The location, a 5 minute walk into the Medieval Centre, is the best thing about this house. There is great shopping just a couple of minutes away - a great bakery, cheese shop, and Supermarket. International newspapers are available at Newsagent just minutes away too. The Master Suite upstairs is comfortable and very roomy, with windows on both sides giving a breeze on hot nights. The double bedroom downstairs is comfortable, faces the garden and has a ensuite shower room. The third bedroom adjacent to the kitchen has 2 single beds and a small shower room, with the toilet off the kitchen, so its not ensuite - to me this bedroom is suitable for a single adult or children. The garden is sunny and private, and there is car parking for 3 cars. The pool is in a sunny position and is maintained weekly. Hamish and Xanthe, the owners, live locally and will attend to any issues that arise promptly. The house is in a quiet position, so a good nights sleep is assured.
We arrived in the evening and found that everything was prepared for us, a fire in the fireplace, the pool ready. All the promises of the photos and the details proved corrrect and even better in reality. The rooms were wonderful, very stylish and cosy. Everything was clean and well maintained. The fully equipped kitchen enabled us to prepare the most gorgeous meals with everything bought fresh on the market or brought home from our excursions around the Dordogne valley.
Private parking, very precious in central Sarlat, several excellent restaurants in walking distance, shops close at hand made our life very easy and restful.
The area is fabulous, one feels in the South, people are very open and friendly and the sun plentiful. On our trips around we discovered the most impressive cave paintings, wonderful little villages, dramatic castles on steep slopes, all in the colours of the river, the ochre of the hills and so many different shades of green.
Xanthe and Hamish were always in the background to help should any problems arise. Everything went so well, that we are already planning our next stay in the house.
We did a lot of research on the internet trying to find the right place, and were sold on the photos and information provided by the owner. Xanthe was very helpful answering our questions and the booking process went very smoothly.
The house is very comfortable - there aren't that many properties in the Dordogne which are suitable to stay in during the cold(ish) winter months, or are even open. But this house was everything we were looking for. It has a large private garden at the front, giving the house lots of privacy, off-street parking, a wood-burner in the living room. The main bedroom was very spacious.
The house is in the centre of Sarlat, very easy to get to, even on market day.
We received our deposit back the day after we left the property. In fact all of our contact with the owner was great, we'll definitely stay in one of her properties again.
SARLAT & the Dordogne are renowned the world over. An area of exceptional historic value that has been inhabited by man for over 400,000 years. The beautiful Medieval town of Sarlat is the top period film location destination in France & has over 1.5m visitors pa.
This rental house is perfectly situated within the Dordogne & allows you to visit the nearby attractions very easily; the famous prehistoric cave paintings at Lascaux, Rocamadour, the Vezere Valley with its many Stone Age relics, troglodyte houses & caves dating from 20,000 years ago or the Dordogne river. You might like to visit the vineyards of Bergerac & St.Emilion, or go Hot Air Ballooning & see the 1001 Castles & Chateaux by air; experience one of the many Gourmet restaurants in Sarlat, or sit in the street Cafes & watch the world go by; others are drawn by the free Summer Street Theatre. It is all here for you to do, whether its drifting down the Dordogne river in a canoe or eating at a Michelin starred restaurant!!
