Five bedroom Unique Home on 12.5 Private Acres with Large Pond
About Harry Strausser
My partner and I own several businesses in Northeast Pennsylvania including an account receivable management firm, a training company, a retail location and a full service floral shop. We maintain a number of properties in PA and FL. Thorne Haven has quickly become our favorite place!
Harry Strausser purchased this Chateau / Country House in 2015
Why Harry Strausser chose Laporte
The Laporte/Eagles Mere area in northern Pennsylvania has a colorful past and continues to attract nature lovers and those wanting to get way from the hustle and bustle of daily lives. We found this property almost three years ago online and watched it for almost two years until we scheduled a showing. We fell in love with the house and the beautiful grounds immediately. We now look forward to offering the property for the enjoyment of others including special events and weddings.
What makes this Chateau / Country House unique
Unique home encompassing over 5000 square feet and 5 bedrooms. Home sits atop a hill overlooking the 12.5 acres and the 2 acres pond. Guests love to sit on the front patio and take in the grounds. You'll see Canadian Geese on our pond and deer roaming and feeding regularly.

Spent four days in this beautiful home for a mini vacation during a school break. The home is absolutely as pictured. Creative touches everywhere. Spacious--a place for everyone. Dining room was our favorite. Ate all meals with a gorgeous view of the property. The family room with it's giant fireplace was amazing. Recommend bringing firewood as it was very cold and although some is provided it was not enough. There is also a fire pit outdoors, but it was just too cold. The kitchen is stocked with most anything you need to cook-awesome double oven. Plan to bring your food as the only major food store is at least a 30 minute drive. There is a dollar general for the basics closer to the house. The only negative is that the dish washer didn't work (the soap dispenser cup will not stay closed). Washing dishes by hand on vacation was a bummer. Also, interesting there is no freezer in the kitchen; only a refrigerator. Soooo my yummy ice-cream I brought was a milk shake (still good!) There are tons of awesome DVD's but we were unable to get the DVD or VHS machine to work....Last my only other complaint is that you have to take your garbage to a local recycle center on your way out and they charge you 2 bucks per bag. It's not the money! This was just not convenient on the day you are leaving. If you are paying a cleaning service fee, I feel that the property manager should drive the garbage to this facility. Our cars were packed to the brim and had to find room to haul our garbage from the four days. These negatives are only meant as constructive criticism for the owner. We had an amazing trip. Our pups loved roaming the property and long walks down by the lake. Wish is was a little warmer so we could have enjoyed the boats. This is the place to be if you are looking to disconnect from the world and enjoy the people you are with. There is not much to do up in those neck of the woods. But that is just what we were looking for...nothing to do. Thank you to the hosts H &T for sharing your haven. Deb, Kim, Pam and John
We used the property as a "home base" to visit the Little League World Series. It was a great location and a beautiful property. The kids in the group loved the pond and the acreage. It was much nicer than trying to meet in town! My only suggestion would be to install some type of AC upstairs. It wasn't awful but did get a bit warm our last night there.
We had a wonderful stay at Harry’s property. Our family gathered here from all over the country as we were attending a reunion nearby. The property is absolutely beautiful. It is a very quiet and peaceful setting. We loved sitting outside in the morning to enjoy our coffee and breakfast. The home has a great layout and is very spacious. We were able to have babies sleep, while the rest of us enjoyed time together. Harry was very helpful and easy to work with. A very detailed information sheet about the home is provided in advance. The kitchen is really well stocked for cooking. Our family has a property management company in a resort area, so we tend to be pretty particular and have high expectations for rental homes. This home exceeded our expectations. We had a great stay and highly recommend Harry’s home!
Comfort and space
House and grounds are beautiful. Three couples had more than ample space and if our kids were still children we would have been comfortable with three families
Unique house and a wonderful setting
We stayed at Thorne Haven over a snowy long weekend. We had a wonderful stay. The main sitting room is super cozy and comfortable. We enjoyed the fireplace. The large kitchen and beautiful dining room were perfect for our family dinners. The grounds and setting were lovely and private. The bedrooms were comfortable. The master bedroom is open to the adjacent open library, so it does get a lot of noise from downstairs. But its a large, spacious room with lovely big windows. The house is very clean and has lots of interesting decor.
We had a wonderful time during our stay at Thorne Haven. The house and property are beautiful. Even though it rained pretty much our entire stay, we still had a great time. After seeing pictures, several friends asked for information about the rental! Mr. Strausser is super helpful and responds very quickly to inquiries. Highly recommend!
Location of property in Laporte, PA is just 7 miles from the charming community of Eagles Mere.
