Villa Rose is a vacation villa with pool and gardens on a private country club estate. Just 3 mins stroll to shops, bars & restaurants in the picturesque old village square which overlooks the boating lake, golf course and hills of Provence. Accommodation: One double ensuite bedroom and one twin bedroom, two luxury bathrooms. Modern kitchen with dishwasher & washer/drier. Large beamed lounge and dining area open onto a balcony overlooking the Luberon mountains. Further terrace with outdoor furniture and BBQ leads to gardens and shared private pool only 30 yds away.
Golf course information: The spectacular golf course was designed and opened by Seve Ballesteros in 1991. It is now fully matured and has held the French Masters tournament for the last few years in October. In 2007, for the first time this was televised in France. Regarded as one of the top 10 courses in France it is not for the faint hearted, but the variety of tees make it a fun challenge for players of moderate ability and better. Very well maintained, it has a good practice ground, putting green and modern Provencal clubhouse. There is a good, well stocked bar with snacks and light meals available all day, also an excellent restaurant with views across the lake and golf course from the terrace, all open to non-members. In 2010 a short 6 hole golf course was opened for practice and beginners.
Village facilities: The old pedestrian village of Domaine de Pontroyal is just a 3 minute stroll from Villa Rose. There are shops, bars and restaurants in the squares overlooking the boating lake, golf course and hills of Provence. There are numerous sport facilities which may incur a charge, especially in July & August. These include a large heated swimming pool, a wave pool, water slide, floodlit tennis and basketball, archery, outdoor theatre, childrens clubs, boating, archery, horse riding and more! There is a Thursday morning summer market in La Place de la Mairie and numerous art and other exhibitions in the hall under the bell tower and the reception area of La Maison de Pontroyal.
Local attractions: We list some favourite restaurants and tourist attractions in our guide in the villa - too many to mention here. However there are markets in nearby towns and villages every morning, Aix-en-Provence , Avignon and Marseille are all about 35 mins drive away. The Mediterranean coast a little further and the wildlife of the Camargue within one hour. The Luberon mountains are close by, with many villages and towns made famous in 'A year in Provence'. The local southern Rhone wines can be found in Gigondas, Vaqueras, Beaumes de Venise and Chateauneuf du Pape. Roman amphitheatres are still used today for concerts, bullfights and operas in Nimes & Arles 2000 years after they were built!
I visited Villa Rose with a group of my close girlfriends as a relaxing holiday away from the hustle and bustle of London and that is exactly what we got. It really was the most beautiful and tranquil resort - from first entering the gated entrance way, driving along the beautifully manicured golf course up to the village at sunset it really was breathtaking. We found villa rose to be a perfect location for us with everything we needed on our doorstep (a 3 minute walk to the main village square) in terms of restaurants, shops and wonderful village walks. We made full use of the private pool for Rue de Lambesc finding only ourselves there most of the time. It was very peaceful for sunbathing and relaxing, however we had access to the two larger pools in which to enjoy more fun filled pool activities when desired. The house was fantastically looked after and was well cleaned before our arrival. There were five of us staying together, we had plenty of room and made good use of the top sun terrace as well as the barbeque terrace, overlooking the pool and manicured gardens. Overall a fantastic stay, we would definitely return again - what a beautiful property and fantastic location.
After passing superb holidays in Villa Rose for the second successive year I thought I'd better contribute something. The situation of the villa is perfect - 3 minutes walk to the centre of the complex with its restaurants, shops and pools, yet in a very quiet cul-de-sac.
The inside is nicely furnished with everything that you could possibly need, and the terrace is perfect for a relaxed evening meal watching the sunset. The villa is very well-cleaned before arrival by the very friendly and helpful Karen and her team.
Next to the downstairs terrace (direct access from the bedroom) is the essential holiday accessory - the barbecue - with the wonderfully cared-for gardens (see photo) leading down to the pool.
Although shared with about 10 other properties in the cul-de-sac, the decent-sized pool is rarely busy (most days we were completely alone) as many families prefer to take the kids to the 2 large pools in the complex. Guaranteed calm in which to soak up the sun and read that latest Dan Brown thriller.
For those golfers among you - yes it is a bit pricy, but as a 4 handicapper I can assure you that the Pont-Royal course is one of the best that you will find. Technically challenging and long off the back tees, quite a bit more forgiving off the front tees, and beautifully manicured - I could play there every day. Otherwise there are 2 or 3 good courses within 40km, so for golf holidays it's a good location.
Above all the attraction of the villa is the central situation for visiting the main sights of Provence. Within 1 hour you can visit Peter Mayle country (Ménèrbes, Bonnieux, Gordes etc), or head down to Marseille and visit the Old Port and fantastic Notre Dame de la Garde. So many things to do - we've been for a total of 6 weeks in the last 2 years and still have places we want to visit or revisit. Roll on holidays 2010.
This review may sound a bit like an advert - please rest assured that we honestly believe that Villa Rose is our absolute favourite destination for relaxed holidays. Also, the tarifs charged by the owners are very fair compared to some of the other properties you can find on Pont-Royal! We have no hesitation in recommending Villa Rose to anyone!
A luxury villa is a very accurate description of this property, which provided my wife and I with the perfect venue from which to travel to all the main sites in Provence, being mid-way between Avignon and Aix-en-Provence.
The villa has a very spacious kitchen and living area with two bedroom and two bathrooms downstairs. The master bed was very comfy and has two singles in the other bedroom with two bathroom/tiolets.
We stayed here in October when Pont Royal presents as a quiet and picturesque spot for a relaxing holiday of sightseeing. Being only warm at best for our stay, the pool was covered I expext until the warmer months returned, which, based on all the family oriented facilities available around the village, would be accompanied by many holiday minded families with kids of all ages.
The golf course looks an absolute beauty although quite expensive with green fees for visitors at around 70 euros each plus club hire etc. Maybe next time!
The villa was in excellent condition on arrival and the bowl of goodies (tea, coffee, sugar, bread, jam etc) plus a nice bottle of champagne a very nice touch. Everything worked well even for my electronic-challenged brain, although no sound on the satellite channels limited our evening TV watching to CNN. But no real problem for us though.
The local contact was very helpful when contact and although not required for on-site assistance, she was quite willing to travel the 40 minutes to provide help if needed.
The owners provided plenty of accurate information on local eateries and attractions in and around the Village and clear directions to get to the villa. Restaurant Auberge du Vieux Village in nearby Mallemort is highly recommended. A very helpful english speaking waitress is a bonus but be sure to book!
I'd definitely recommend this property and would have no hesitation returning on our next visit to this area.
