About Tineke Dufour Liefhebber

Dear guest,

We haven't met yet and therefor I like to introduce myself. I am Tineke Dufour Liefhebber. Partly I live in France, but most of the year I am in the Netherlands, where I work as company advisor/coach. I am specialised in devellopment of individuals and teams but also in the culture of company and society. When my late husband and I bought this property in 2000, at the start of the new millennium, we really regarded it as buying a breathtaking view which just happened to have some timeless périgourdine stone buildings attached. It took a lot of work to make those buildings habitable, and especially comfortable enough to welcome guests, but we wanted to make a little piece of paradise in south-west France – and so that’s what we set about doing. When my husband passed away four years later, family and friends picked up where he had left off. They helped me to realize our dream. Today, it’s a perfect rural hideaway for peace seekers. For anyone who loves sun, swim, wine, fine cuisine, hiking, birdwatching, communing with nature – or just getting away from it all with a good book! And ofcourse, it is a great place for children as well. Come help me enjoy it. Welcome in paradise!

Tineke Dufour Liefhebber purchased this cottage in 2000

Why Tineke Dufour Liefhebber chose Thenon

What guests are telling me:

"Blown away by the view, Little corner in Paradise, On top of the world, Area was magic, We went again, and again, Peaceful oasis, Breathtaking; Crazy dreams of never leaving, Idyllic setting-hard to beat! Exceeded our expectations, Wonderful place, Stunning views."

I only can agree!

What makes this cottage unique

First of all the view. And yes the view ofcourse. Located on top of a southfacing hill in the very heart of the Dordogne but not in a hectic touristic area. Private but not isolated it offers best of two worlds. Shops 3km, Lascaux 15km. The peace of this stunning location was a balm for everybody who visited.

There is only one disadvantage. Holidays are much too short to see everything.

Welcome in this little paradise.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This is the first review I've ever done as I've never felt the need before. This holiday however demands it. The selfish part of me wants to trash it so others don't visit & we could have it all to ourselves. That, however, could never happen. Where do I start! The setting is the most idyllic we've ever found, so peaceful & stunning scenery. We were met on our arrival by the owner Tineke, who just happened to be staying in the other cottage, & she made us feel very welcome from the start. She showed us around then left us to it. We were spoiled, as Tineke left the following morning & there were no other occupants of the two other properties, so we had the whole place to ourselves for the week. The photos on the website are very accurate but just don't do the place justice, I don't think you can really appreciate the peace & beauty until you visit. We were celebrating our 25th anniversary, (Tineke had very kindly left us a card & gifts, a lovely gesture), and wanted to just sit and enjoy our own company in beautiful surroundings. Honestly we could not have picked a better place. We stayed in L'Hermite, which was lovely but, having seen the others, I don't think you would be disappointed by any. All are positioned so that, even if all were occupied, you would still have your privacy. The properties & grounds are meticulously cared for by Martin & Carol, an English couple who live nearby. Martin was very discreet whilst maintaining the grounds & pools & you wouldn't know he was there if you didn't approach him yourself. They gave us some good tips for eating & trips out but we were happy where we were. Although we were looking for peace & quiet, families would also be welcome at the cottages, As well as installing stone barbecues in all the cottages, Martin has built a kids playground away from the properties so the kids can play whilst the grown ups enjoy the scenery & wine. The cottages are remote so a car is essential, the small town of Thenon is a 5 minute drive away with a Carrefour Market that caters for most essentials. If you wanted more, there are bigger supermarkets at Montignac, (15 mins) or Sarlat (30 mins). Sarlat is worth a visit. The closest airport is probably Bergerac (1 hr). We have travelled all over Europe & beyond and we can honestly say that this is the first holiday that not only lived up to expectations but totally exceeded them. You could not fail to fall in love with this place, if you didn't, then maybe you should just stay at home,

Comfortable cottage in a tranquil location

  • 4 of 5

A cosy and well-equipped property. Had many homely features from tea lights to board games to the wood burner. The cottage had everything we needed and more.

We could not fault the location - peaceful enough to get away from the hustle and bustle of cities, yet near enough to major towns like Sarlat and Perigueux, and local boulangeries to buy fresh bread in the mornings etc. It was sad to leave such an idyllic location!

Thank you Tineke for a comfortable stay and we are all looking forward to our return!

Owner's Response: 'Unwind'...that is exactly what we try to reach. Beside the stunning views are 'unwinding', inspiration'' and 'contemplation' the most chosen words by our guests. It plesures me you could share this experience.

peace and quiet

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful two weeks in L'Hermite. It was so peaceful and relaxing, just what we needed to unwind. The weather was perfect, sunshine and blue skies every day. We spent most days sipping the local wine sitting under the apple tree and reading our books. The Wi-Fi signal was strong, so the teenagers were happy too!

Owner's Response: It is indeed a chalange to get a smooth WIFI in France. But we succeeded and I am happy to hear your teenagers enjoyed this facility.

Calme, tranquillité, vue superbe

  • 5 of 5

The property is just 2 miles from the sleepy village of Thenon, where you will find a bakery, supermarket, post office and a bank, as well as a variety of restaurants serving traditional local dishes. Despite the quiet surroundings, we are ideally situated for all the main tourist sites. A short drive will take you to the famous medieval town of Sarlat, the caves at Les Eyzies and Montignac, walk the cobbled streets of the ancient Roman city of Perigueux or visit one of the many chateaux near Beynac and Domme. For the more adventurous, take a canoe trip down the beautiful River Vezere or enjoy the views from the skies in a hot air balloon.

And at the end of a long day site seeing, relax in what is quite possibly one of the most tranquil places on earth. Known as the land of 1000 chateaux and the birth place of modern man, the Dordogne is a truly magical place. We hope to see you soon.
