Enchanted Home in the Land of Enchantment

  • 5 of 5

We've been renting homes in Taos yearly for over 20 years. We've had the pleasure of staying at many nice ones but none as delightful as this home. The view is a magnificent one of pastures and soaring mountains and the diversity and beauty of the changing weather is just incredible. The house is at the end of the road and is very private. You can lounge on the expansive patios and toast the sunset or host a delicious dinner around the outdoor grill. Later, climb the spiral stairs and play a few games of pool with the new sound system providing your personal sound track. This is a house designed to create comfort.

Located between Ski Valley and Taos you're minutes from everything including many excellent restaurants, galleries and more dramatic hiking trails than you'll probably have time to explore.

Ron, the owner is a great guy who is very caring about your needs.

Large, well appointed house in great location--VERY PRIVATE, great views.

  • 4 of 5

Overall the house was great, and in a great location. Plenty of space for a large group, plenty of beds, and TV's everywhere one might need. My only major complaint has to do with temperature control. We went in early July, with daytime highs in the 80's, and lows at night in the low 50's. There is no A/C. Some of the windows did not have screens, many of the windows were difficult to open, or even had broken hardware. The master might only get down to 77 by sunrise (even with windows open, and temps in the 50's), but not lower. One bedroom (with 3/4 only screens) was typically above 85 degrees in the morning. Again, great house, great location, plenty of space, plenty of TV's, VERY PRIVATE--but for my trip, also, very warm. The owner responded very promptly to each contact.

Owner's Response: I'm glad the guest enjoyed the home , but I'm also disappointed that they never contacted me to tell me they were uncomfortable . As soon as I was informed about the high temperatures, I had a portable AC unit delivered within 2 days , All except 1 window cranks opens ( house has more than 24 windows ) as well as 9 ceiling fans throughout the home to keep things cool . I am dedicated to all my guest's enjoyment during their vacation , and wish they had contacted me for help instead of complaining in a review . I definitely would have been able to help them cool the house .

Absolutely incredible villa for our 2.5 week wonderful stay in Taos

  • 5 of 5

Our family of five (three kids 9, 6 and 3) stayed at Ron's beautiful villa for 2 weeks and a half and had an amazing time!

Ron made a special effort to greet us upon arrival and showed us around. Ron was very kind to share his Apple TV with a great selection of 500 movies to keep us entertained.

The villa is very well maintained, tastefully decorated and furnished. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need to cook a gourmet meal, from spices, cooking utensils to a nice gas stove top and oven. The house is located at the end of the community drive way so you are not looking into other houses. The view is spectacular from the backyard towards the mountains. We spent many hours sitting outside listening to music and had many BBQs. The kids enjoyed playing in the yard and star gazing at night. There are plenty of wildlife around, many birds, rabbits, chipmunks, meerkats and coyotes.

The villa is within 20 minutes drive to Cid's Food Market(the local Whole Food equivalents), many great restaurants and hiking trails. We enjoyed the hikes immensely and even saw a couple of bighorn sheep grazing away. There were still knee deep snow on the trails by Taos Ski Valley.

We had such a wonderful time and hope to come back to this incredible holiday home again. It was a pleasure to meet you and thanks again for everything, Ron!

Beautiful Area with "Tired" property

  • 3 of 5

I booked this home for our family's Thanksgiving week vacation and had really a wonderful time in the area. We had done a similar trip 2 years prior and stayed at another unit in the Arroyo Secco compound and fell in love with the care the owners gave to their property - it made you feel as though it were your home. That being said when my wife and I checked into this unit on Saturday evening what we found was what was once a beautiful home that has been turned into just another rental property without the care given to details. Without going into too many details, let's just say the property was not the cleanest I've ever stayed in with old dusty fake plants in several rooms, bugs in light fixtures, cobwebs in corners of several rooms, older furniture, etc. I spoke with the owner/property manager a few times and he did send out his crew once to hit the high spots again but then became quite indignant that we weren't satisfied with the effort. At that point i quit communicating with him and moved on with our week as I didn't need the added stress as we were on a vacation! A few examples of the property needing some upkeep - Main Living Room windows showing the beautiful mountains were barely able to see through as the seals are broken and fogged up constantly. Labels on every drawer and cabinet door in the kitchen - quite tacky! So so cookware and an aging stove. Majority of the pillows in the windowseats needed recovering or were uncovered and wrapped in a blanket - really! With 3 Kiva fireplaces in the home and early winter you would think to burn a fire but owner request you can only burn "fake logs" which you have to go procure at the local hardware store at $35 p/6 logs - not what i was expecting to say the least. Bed linens were clean but old and towels were at a minimum for a five bedroom house. With a little TLC and simple refurbishment the property could be a wonderful home again but not until then. Outside built in grill was broken so there was a free standing propane grill but no propane in the tank -had to go into town and exchange one - lovely touch! Very few of the outdoor lights were functional as they were either knocked down or just weren't working. We found next to the driveway at the garage door random yard tools and kid's sleds that had just been left there - hmm? Don't get me wrong the bones of the home are quite good - it's just the details that are being neglected. Just don't book unless that's what you're expecting!

Owner's Response: I would like to rebut the comments in the review one at a time , 1. I personally checked the customer in and reviewed the cleaning and everything was fine , He called a few days later with some cleaning requests and they were handled immediately . 2 .furniture is traditional southwestern and not old . It was all purchased new specifically for this rental . Anything damaged or old would be repaired or replaced . 3. One of the windows had a broken seal down low , but you can easily see the mountain views from all the windows throughout the house . . 4. We do have traditional indian blankets on the window built ins ,. Not sure why that's bad , It's Taos . 5. The Cookware are new Calphalon sauce pans and skillets . Cook top & oven are high quality decor appliances . Refrigerator and dishwasher are 2 years old . Washer and dryer are also new . 6. With the advice of our chimney sweep co , we recommend dura flame logs , They burn hotter, ,longer and cleaner than wood. Many of our guests still choose to use wood . 7. Outside built in grill is disconnected and has never been available . A very nice stand alone grill is available . As mentioned at booking , propane is usually available , but refills are self serve . 8. Bed linens and towels are all new and replaced regularly . All customers receive one full set of towels per overnight guest plus 2 extra sets in the master , We also provide lots of pool towels to use in the community pool . 9 Outdoor low voltage lights are working , Only an exterior GFI needed to be reset . We also have flood lights that provide ample outdoor lighting . 10. A sled for children is in the garage as well as broom , pruning shears . and rake , Just your normal garage tools . The garage was cleaned and repainted the week before he arrived , The home received its semi-annual 2 week scheduled maintenance which includes painting , minor repairs etc . right before this guest arrived . I visit the home every 4-6 weeks to check its supplies and do minor maintenance . I stand by the quality and maintenance of my home . I am dedicated to my customer's satisfaction and enjoyment during their stay . I have over 60 reviews among my properties verifying the quality of my rentals and the service I provide , I have no idea what motivated this customer to write this review 7 months after he departed . I satisfied all his requests and delivered a clean and beautiful home .

Family of 8 with a small dog

  • 5 of 5

We had 8 adults with a Shih Tzu for the week at this house. We all had a wonderful time and enjoyed ourselves. We will come back again but a little later in May since we missed the chairlifts and the spring/summer ski resort activities. They all start after Memorial Day! The owner was very helpful and considerate and always respond very quickly to any question I may have had during the booking process, getting there and during our stay. I will highly recommend this house to any of my friends heading to Taos!

Beautiful views, warm and spacious home!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time here! The house is spacious, giving everyone room to spread out- when needed!! The view of the sunrise was amazing! AND We NEVER ran out of hot water!! Granted we've learned over the years to spread out showers but if you've ever traveled with a large group, lack of hot water can be an issue! And not having to deal with that was a relief! Overall the house was great! next time we visit Taos--this will be the first place we check for reservations!!
