About Andy Smith
We, Rob and Andy (Andrea), both grew up in the Lakes and have now moved our family back home. Rob is a keen walker, climber and mountain biker with Mountain Leader qualifications and can either advise you on routes to take, or even accompany you as a guide.
Andy Smith purchased this Cottage in 2018
Why Andy Smith chose Ulverston
It is right in the heart of the Lakes, but very much in a quiet oasis between Windermere and Coniston. It offers excellent facilities and more space than you commonly find in a holiday home.
What makes this Cottage unique
A quiet oasis in the middle of the Lakes. Easy access to all the main areas without the rush and crowds of Windermere and Ambleside.

Glorious cottage and location
If you like peace and quick and glorious views then this is the place for you. Added to the location are all the lovely extras that are included such as the bread maker and local jams and coffee. The location is close to Windermere for kayaking etc and we would recommend Fell Foot for paddle boarding and a lazy day by the river.
Bleating to perfection!
If you are looking for a quiet, iconic cottage in the lake district this is your place. The moment you drive up to the property you hear the sweet bleats of sheep and as you walk in from your car past the birds in the bird feeder to coming up the stairs to find homemade scones and bread with jam, free range chicken eggs, milk, apple juice and butter you know you have arrived somewhere special. Whatever you may need or may have forgotten has been provided. Spa bath for your feet? bread machine? fizz bombs for your bath? Yes, it is there. Rob has provided maps for walking and they were the best hikes we took while in the lake district. The smell of crossing pastures of freshly mown hay will not be forgotten. Enjoying the setting sun on the trellised deck while watched 2 hens scratch for food will not be forgotten. Hiking through woods of English oaks, ash, hazel, and bracken and coming upon a pheasants nest will not be forgotten. If you are looking for this kind of experience then search no more. Thank you, Andy and Rob, for making our honeymoon special.
Little gem in the South Lakes
Lovely cottage in a great location. Plenty of walking from the doorstep, but within easy reach of the popular locations in the South Lakes. Very quiet - you wouldn't know you were so close to the popular tourist locations. We've been twice now and will definitely be going again.
The Ultimate Lake District Experience
We had the most wonderful stay at Andy and Rob's place in Ulverston and have to score it 5/5 stars in every single aspect.
Firstly the location was perfect; surrounded by beautiful countryside on all sides. With lambs in the field next door and chickens sharing the garden with us we certainly got the idyllic rural setting which we were looking for.
Secondly the cottage itself was fantastic. Upstairs had a spacious and well equipped kitchen which led into a very comfy living room area which was the perfect place to lounge after a long day's walking. Bonus marks also for a great shower and super comfy beds.
Thirdly, Andy and her family couldn't have been more welcoming. Andy was always very responsive in her communication. When we arrived she gave us the lowdown on the local area; the best walks and where we could buy local farm produce. We also found a very generous welcome pack when we arrived which we were really touched by.
All of four of us have said that we definitely want to come back to Ulverston and stay in Andy's cottage again! Thank you so much Andy - Best Easter Weekend Ever!!!

Brilliant would happily go again !
Gorgeous little find
We enjoyed a lovely weekend at Lanes End cottage. The cottage was warm and cosy on our arrival and equipped with far more than you would normally expect for a rental.
It was lovely to explore this side of the lakes and walk places we have never been before. Andy was very accommodating allowing my husband to return for a shower after his trail marathon on the Sunday, despite this being after normal checkout time.
Would definitely return. One point is that you need to bring everything as there are not any shops close by, but that is part of the charm.
