About the property

Three bedrooms, three bathrooms, living room, dining room, well equipped kitchen

La Bourdique dates from the 1500s. Its ancient wooden beams, stone walled barns and fabulous views from all windows breathe the romance of this stunning area of rural France. The house has been modernised to ensure the comfort and ease of guests. Three bedrooms, each with its own bath/shower room, cosy living room with TV, video, sound system, wifi, fully equipped kitchen, antique filled dining room all add to the pleasure guests experience in this home from home.

The three bedrooms provide sleeping accommodation for up to six guests. Two rooms have very comfortable twin beds, the third is a double bed with two mattresses linked on a single frame. The downstairs Cream room and en suite bathroom are wheelchair accessible. The Green room upstairs has its own door separating the bedroom and bathroom and making it into a mini suite. The Poppy room is flooded with light from two windows, one trapping the rising sun from the East, the other overlooking the quaint, paved courtyard.

The kitchen is fully equipped and includes a dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, fridge and all the implements you would expect to find in your own home.

A large, 1/3 acre garden and outside eating terrace allow you to relax and breathe in the pure air of this Parc Naturel whilst you enjoy the stunning views of fields and forests. The garden, abloom with roses and hibiscus, has five fig trees, apricot, greengage, pear and cherry trees. If you are there at the right season you can pluck figs for your breakfast from the tree that shades the Juliet balcony leading from the dining room.

This area of France is steeped in Mediaeval history. In the nearby village of Coupiac, five minutes away by car or a stunning 45 minute walk along the ridge separating two valleys, has a vast chateau which used to belong to the Ducs de Toulouse. For several weeks each summer local players perform a play throughout the chateau showing how owners and servants lived throughout the ages. In front of the chateau you can dine with locals at communal trestle tables. But first you will be able to buy wine, cheese, brochettes, crepes and many other delicacies from local traiteurs.

There is plenty to keep you entertained during your holiday stay in the area. Kayaking on the river Tarn, 25 minutes away, browsing the local market at St. Affrique, visiting the spectacular 11th century Cathedral at Albi, a trip to the Rose City of Toulouse, the Gorges du Tarn, Brousse le Chateau, the Priory of Ambialet - there are endless places to visit and things to do.

The village of Martrin has a well loved bistro where hosts Serge and Bryce whip up local delicacies like confit de canard, magret de canard, daube de taureau. If you opt for the daily lunchtime menu you will pay as little as Euros 13 for a four course meal. Evening menus are slightly more expensive but offer amazing value for such excellent cuisine.
