Comments from Owner's Guestbook : *****Thank you for welcoming us so warmly from the very start of our wonderful visit here. You have been perfect hosts. La Forge has been like a second home for us. Beautifully furnished, equipped and meticulously clean. Your recommendations for restaurants and places to visit have proved superb and have contributed to making this trip to France for us memorable (Jacqui, Martin and Tomas; Hertfordshire, UK)***** Thank you very much for such a lovely week. La Forge has been a great place to relax and enjoy spending time together as a family (Guy, Juliet, Olivia and Laura; Bristol, UK)

*****We had a wonderful time staying in the gite. It was very nice and we were impressed with the quality of the accommodation; it was very clean, everything that we need was there and we really enjoyed it. Carcassonne is very close by, lots of shops, the castle is fantastic (Seamus; Cork, Ireland)****The whole ambience and atmosphere of the domaine is absolutely superb. We came hoping for somewhere we could relax and recharge our batteries!we couldn't have found anywhere better. We would like to thank you for your generosity and kidness during our stay which has passed too quickly unfortunately and we will definitely be back (Chris and Julie; Menton, France)
Jean-Noël and Agathe Moréchand-Ishida opened Domaine de Curé in 2007. Agathe is French, but grew up in Japan. It is there that she met Jean-Noël, who has American and Japanese parents. He grew up in Switzerland, Japan and the United States.
Jean-Noël & Agathe Ishida purchased this cottage in 2005
We had such a great time. The gite is spacious and had everything we needed for a comfortable and relaxing stay. Only 15 minutes from Carcassonne and in the centre of "Cathar Country". Agathe and Jean-Noel were perfect hosts - especially with their supply of excellent local wine at very reasonable prices!! We would love to return...
We very much enjoyed our stay in August at in La Caleche at Domaine de Cure, located in a quiet rural location surrounded by vineyards but not far from facilities. The World Heritage Site at Carcasonne is close by, plus lots of other interesting historic villages and chateaux. Our apartment was beautifully kitted out with everything we needed and the large typically french garden was great to relax in, with interesting birdlife such as hoopoes occasionally visiting! Our hosts, Jean-Paul and Agathe were very helpful and gave us some good advice on places to visit and to eat, including the nearby Michelin star restaurant; La Berengerie. Outside Carcasonne, the area was surprisingly un-touristy and unspoilt. We would definitely recommend this property.
We have already spent our vacation several times in la Calèche and have enjoyed it every time. The location next to the vineyards is beautiful and the loving care by the hosts made the stay always an unforgettable experience. The gîte is beautifully decorated and is equipped with everything necessary (washing machine, dishwasher, satellite TV, etc.) and compared with French standard, luxuriously equipped.
Being close to Carcassonne and the Canal du Midi makes the location perfect. A car is useful (and necessary) for exploring the area. Highly recommended!
This is the absolute best home base that we could imagine when we stay in the Carcassonne area! It has a little of everything. Close to restaurants, close to the canals, beautiful grounds, amazing views and such a private pool. The gites themselves are roomy, unbelievably clean and have everything that we could need for our stay. We love the Japanese style pool house and spent many a day just relaxing by the pool drinking the wonderful (and amazingly reasonably priced) wines provided by Jean-Noel and Agathe. Can't wait to come back!!
This is a wonderful little apartment. We enjoyed a week in La Caleche, the smallest of the gites. Very nicely decorated with all necessary items, except perhaps pool towels. Charming environs. Plenty of castles and sight seeing opportunities in the vicinity. Excellent hosting by Jean-Noel and Agathe, who actually live in the building. We would come again - no greater compliment!
My husband and I stayed in the smallest of the three gites in this peaceful location. The gites have been converted and renovated to a very high standard and are a welcome cool retreat when the weather is very hot. The interior was clean and well-maintained. The owners are very welcoming and are always on hand for a friendly chat or advice. The gites and pool area are surrounded by farmland and vineyards and it is possible to have some pleasant walks with very little traffic. There are no shops or restaurants very close by so you do need your own transport. It is possible to drive approximately 5 mins to the Canal du Midi and you can enjoy a walk along its banks into Carcassonne (it's about an hour's walk). The old city has plenty of good restaurants. There is a good baker, supermarket and other retail outlets within a 10-minute drive of the gites.
Domaine de Curé is located in the middle of the vineyards outside the village of Conques-Sur-Orbiel which is only 10 kms to the north of the medieval fortified city of Carcassonne along with the famous 17th century Canal du Midi (both UNESCO heritage sites). Within Conques-Sur-Orbiel you can find both a café and a restaurant together with a selection of local shops which include 2 boulangeries, mini supermarkets, hairdressers, a café, restaurant and a pharmacy. A supermarket, gas station and movie complex are within a 5 minute drive.
The Cité of Carcassonne - the Count's Castle (12th-13th centuries) is within the medieval Cité which has double perimeter walls and 52 towers. St Nazaire basilica is built in Romanesque and gothic styles. On the left bank of the Aude river, the Lower Town (13th century) is worth a visit. Fireworks 14 July. Tournaments (Medieval Pageantry) from beginning of July to the end of August.
Other Activities: wine tasting
