A delightful cottage in a marvellous position
The cottage is beautifully situated at the quieter end of the island: from the spacious terrace there are fine views of the sea but the position is tranquil and secluded, overlooking a colourful garden and a private vineyard on the slopes below. Inside its character has been carefully preserved, with an impressive kitchen range and some fine antique furniture. Don't expect stainless steel - the sink is original too, but there's all the modern equipment you need. Like many others on the island the road leading down to the house is narrow and quite steep.
The welcome we received was exceptional: Roberto met us, explained everything and made sure we had provisions to start us off as well as local fruit and wine. The house was full of fresh flowers and immaculately presented. We were able to enjoy a roaring log fire in the evenings.
There are lovely walks close by including levadas not far away. Good restaurants are quite close and the road tunnels get you to Funchal in little over an hour - it will be faster next year. But this location is best for those who enjoy peace and quiet as well as lovely scenery and an old, slightly quirky house. We certainly did and strongly recommend it to those who like the same.
We stayed two weeks in this beautiful house, with the great seaview. It was just what we needed: peace and quiet, the only question every day being: do we stay here, or are we going to do something? The thing being either the beach or walking one of the meny levada-walks close by, or maybe just the almost 40-minute walk to one of the restaurants in the village.
Roberto and Fiona decorated their home with pride and joy, just for us, with fresh flowers everywhere and the odd visit bringing wine and bread. The home itself is a beauty, the terrace is great.
Had a wonderful 10 days in this beautiful property.
Wonderful views, very peaceful location and beautifully restored comfortable house where you can immediately feel 'at home'. There were beautiful wild flowers in the lanes and the garden was lovely.
Roberto is an exceptional host who made us feel very welcome and ensured we had all we needed to start our holiday.
A 20 minute walk along the old road brings you into the town, near a café/restaurant that serves very tasty and good value home cooked meals.
There is a nearby levada that you can access without needing to drive, whilst other levadas are within 30 minutes drive. So some great walks followed up by sitting on the patio with a glass of maderian wine watching the amazing sunsets! Highly recommended.
Perfect hideaway for relaxing holidays
We stayed two wonderful weeks in this cosy and tastefully restored house enjoying, above all, spectacular views over the Atlantic Ocean.
The house and the beautiful garden are very well maintained, lovingly decorated and with all the amenities you need.
The absolute peace and quietness of the area made for a very restful atmosphere.
Thank you so much, Roberto and Fiona, for your exceptional hospitality!

The Ponta do Pargo the Parish is located in the western tip of the island. It is characterized by having beautiful views of different bays that form on steep slopes of the island sea. Is located about 350/400 meters, its most important landmark is the lighthouse dated 1922, located next to a cliff estasiante. Its population is very affable, friendly and curious, living in this extreme point of the island as such are very peaceful and are dedicated mostly to subsistence agriculture. Are mint 950 the inhabitants of this small town. From this village we can move on easily and in a short time for two bathing areas. The south beach of Calheta, yellow sand (introduced), where there is a good supermarket and some restaurants as well as an excellent marina and a whole complex that supports him. To the north, the sleepy village of Porto Moniz, with its beautiful natural pool, meticulously drawn over small rocks, which also highlights a very interesting aquarium, as well as the Living Science Centre, always with thematic exhibitions. You can also decide to move to the higher plateau of the island, the Paul da Serra, where the desperate green landscapes and numerous hiking or taken in small paths. For those who like to do different walks from the house has a number of options or the flow of the mountain, and down a beautiful path toward the ocean. If using the latter bring a bathing suit and a snack and enjoy the clear waters of the Atlantic, which will surely find a virgin environment and a quality record. It must be said that on the island there are no dangerous animals, so explore it with pleasure and safety!
