What a special place. As soon as we walked in and saw the view from the verandah, we were instantly “chilled”.

The view to the lake is absolutely stunning and one you would never grow tired of

The villa is superb with every attention to detail taken care of. It’s like home from home but better equipped!

The weather was a bit changeable this time of year but still warm enough for T shirts – end September/beginning October

Tomar is an absolute must for a visit. Without doubt, the best national monument we’ve ever been to. Just Euros 6 to get in and real value for money. Would go again and again if we could.

Bobi and Cleo were gorgeous and were both regular visitors – we were tempted to leave our belongings behind and smuggle them into each of our suitcases!

As our fortnight progressed the weather got worse – went to Piodao on a rainy day – not the best of weather to visit a village made of slate and granite but absolutely fascinating just the same – would like to go again on a sunny day

Of all the places we have visited, we enjoyed going to Arganil the most. The town is lovely with some quaint little gift shops spread around. Don’t forget to look around the quiet back streets where there are some hidden shops and café bars

We have had a lovely relaxing two weeks and are heading home to our own menagerie tomorrow. We will definitely be coming back to see the dogs, explore some more places and try our luck at fishing again – no luck this time!

Thank you Geoff and Linda for creating such a lovely place to holiday, for giving us privacy but being there if we needed you

Thank you too to Bobi and Cleo – will always remember you two with fondness.

A truly amazing and relaxing holiday destination

  • 5 of 5

Casa da Roda is situated in the most amazing location. The villa overlooks the River Alva which is great for swimming, and there is a rowing boat for exploring the river further. The view from the villa terraces and from the pool area is breathtaking. There are plenty of seating/eating areas around the property so you can be in full sun or shade. The salt water pool is perfect for cooling down and we spent most days laughing and playing around the pool. There is so much to do in the area if that's what you want. We chose to just totally relax at the villa with a few trips out during our week. The river beach at Gois is an excellent day out and you can have lunch at a table with your feet in the river which our grandchildren loved. Lin and Geoff have obviously put a lot of work into making Casa da Roda such a wonderful place. They live on site but are completely invisible unless you want them for anything. They are both very knowledgeable about the area, both are helpful with Portuguese language, and we loved spending time with them. The villa is spacious, very well equiped and we wanted for nothing. The welcome pack of food, milk and water was great and meant we didn't immediately have to go shopping. There was also a huge bowl of fruit waiting for us. After such a stress free and relaxing holiday we've booked again for next year - well, why wouldn't you?

Haven of peace and beauty

  • 5 of 5

A peaceful, secluded place in beautiful surroundings with a tastefully decorated, spacious house. If you have any concerns from the description be assured - no mozzies from the river, the pool is just big enough for proper excercise if you want it (about 10 strokes), no traffic noise from the village (half a dozen cars per day). We had a wonderful, restful holiday. Your hosts can tell you places to eat, swim and visit, but mostly we just chilled. Try a cool, early morning row on the river - magical.

A little piece of paradise

  • 4 of 5

A secluded, well-maintained property in what we consider the most beautiful part of Portugal. The owners Lin and Geoff wonderfully complement the laid-back way of living we had hoped for. Linda, Roel, Nils, Gunnar

A wonderful house with beautiful river views

  • 5 of 5

The house is perched above a wooded valley with views of the large river that flows through it. Sitting on the shaded terrace watching the wildlife including the birds and butterflies was a highlight of our stay. In the house everything is provided with excellent standards of cleanliness and decoration. The welcome pack - was just that - most welcome and generous.

We had a marvellous time on the property and visiting local attractions. Linda made us most welcome and helped us out when our understanding of Portugal wasn't up to it.

I would completely recommend this property.

Wish it was mine!

  • 5 of 5

This was our third visit, we love it so much. The villa is very secluded and has everything there to enjoy. There is a log fire for chilly evenings, fabulous views, a local hotel that serves good food, bikes, boats, local horse riding and beautiful places to walk. The owners, Geoff & Lin, are out of sight but on hand if you need them. They are friendly and incredibly helpful, and really made sure we had a wonderful week there. It's a great place for adults or for families alike. The motor cycle rides along those twisty, mountainous roads were breathtaking! I'm sure we will be back.

The Beiras is an area of contrasts, both ancient and modern with villages perched on mountain outcrops and endlessly appealing views of terraced olive groves and cool forest streams.

The villa is situated 7km from the town of Arganil and is a 2 hour drive from Porto and 3 hours from Lisbon.

The nearest café and shop is less than 2 miles away in Sarnadela; there is a Post Office less than 2 miles away in Pombeiro da Beira. The nearest supermarkets are in Arganil which is about 15 minutes drive from the villa – Intermarche and Lidl are the main supermarkets but there are also many cafes, restaurants and small shops including take away pizza, etc.

You will be spoilt for choice with the selection of destinations to enjoy on your trips out which can include the University City of Coimbra (for shoppers and lovers of architecture), the broad white sandy beaches of the western coast and, to the east, the highest mountains in Portugal at Serra da Estrela.
