Lovely rustic cottage

  • 5 of 5

We spent three weeks here and the description is rather accurate. Lydia has stocked the cottage well and even provided small things such as a lettuce spinner and egg cups. The garden is enclosed, which is great if you bring your dog along. It is also private as the fence shields one from views of the main house. The cottage itself is freestanding from the main house and is in a hamlet about 3km's away from the nearest village, Salornay sur Guy. The ceilings upstairs are vaulted which gives a great impression of space. The countryside in this part of France is lush green and hilly, very beautiful indeed. It is a great place for cycling as the voie vert (dedicated cycling tracks) are nearby and you can hire bicycles there if you prefer to cycle on the flats. If you are up for a hilly cycle you can use Lydia's two bicycles as well. Lydia is very helpful and she provided us assistance during the French fuel strike. Note that the internet provided is not Wi-Fi, but a wired Ethernet connection, so make sure you bring equipment (laptop/tablet) along that will work with a cable. The cottage can be chilly when it is cold outside, but the wood burning stove warms it up very well upstairs. The rooms are separated by curtains so there isn't much sound proofing across the cottage, which may affect light sleepers. Overall, us as a couple with a baby and a small dog had a very good stay.

charming and peaceful

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for a lovely place to stay in a quiet, and calm little village, this is the place. The house is beautifully renovated with exposed stone walls and cozy touches. Our host was welcoming and helpful. The area is very quiet and great for taking walks and exploring the little villages around. The only problem my husband and I found was that the bedrooms are below the living area and the noise travels. Luckily our daughter is a heavy sleeper but if you have children who are not then they would most likely be disrupted from the noise upstairs. Even so, I highly recommend this property. We visited in early spring when things were just beginning to bloom and we could see that the gardens will be beautiful!

Un coin de tranquillité a la campagne

  • 5 of 5

Delightful, Beautiful stay in "La Petite Maison!"

  • 5 of 5

We arrived mid-afternoon to a beautiful welcome from our lovely proprietress! Our anticipation and expectation of her little cottage was joyfully fulfilled from the first moment. The charm comes through the photographs, but the reality is warm, welcoming, ample, and gracious. Details of having a garden sitting area to oneself, a place to have one's own car parked with a private exit door, ample wood for the wood stove, a completely functioning kitchen within which to prepare delicious meals from locally fresh foods, a 5 km walk around the top of Bourg Rameau, beautifully kept garden flowers, ever-present, and a friendly neighbor in and her dog, Virgule - all punctuated our delightful 5 week stay from the middle of September to the end of October. Our location was perfect for our needs to explore the influences of the Roman era, Cluny's mark on the area, the gastronomy and wines of Burgundy, and the incredible countryside - truly picture book! Discoveries we made were the abundance of castles for the Dukes of Burgundy and music venues nearby. Bourg Rameau is peaceful on its medieval hill top with Le Gross Chigy, its own castle. Chalornay sur Guye - 3 km away provided any last minute needs, a lovely park, a welcoming library, and its own Boulodrome! Cluny, just 15 minutes away, Lyon just an hour south, Tournus a half an hour away ( the only town in France with four Michelin rated restaurants), and the meandering route of vines and hillsides following the Burgundian wine route north got us beyond Beaune to Dijon within 2 hours. We fell in love with this home away from home. We will return!!

  • 5 of 5

  • 5 of 5
