Secluded, Furnished Alaskan Cabin In Forest Setting. 4 Max People
About Simon McLoughlin
I am a New Zealander who has been living in the Goldstream Valley, on the outskirts of the city of Fairbanks, for 25 years. Before arriving in Alaska, I was a keen kayaker, skier, mountaineer, and hiker. I was lured to Alaska in 1990 by wilderness, big mountain country, and warm friendly people.
Simon McLoughlin purchased this Cabin in 2009
Why Simon McLoughlin chose Fairbanks
My business partner Chris and I built this log cabin, as we wanted to offer our friends and guests the opportunity to experience a real Alaskan lifestyle.
What makes this Cabin unique
We have deliberately kept the cabins simple but yet comfortable and cozy. There is no television in the cabins. We wanted to create an environment that brought you back to nature. All our cabins have a low impact on the environment. It is place to come and recharge the batteries and replenish the soul. We are also able to offer you dog sledding and snow mobile trips. You can cross country ski from outside your doorstep onto the many miles of ski tracks. There is also a ski field 10 minutes drive from your cabin.

Nice little cabin
I had a great visit. The cabin was exactly what I was looking for since I’ll be moving into a similar cabin soon. It was quiet and peaceful. I didn’t get the opportunity to meet Simon since he was out of town. The only thing that worries me was getting in and out of the cabin after a rain. I had a rental car and it did fine except for when it really rained and directly in front of the cabin the road is pretty rough and very slick. I’d stay again if I weren’t moving there.
Forest Cabin Adventures
My wife and I stayed here 3 nights with another couple, we really enjoyed our stay. The cabin was well equipped with all the necessary amenities which allowed us to cook our own meal several nights which was nice. Unfortunately this year spring came VERY early which limited some of our winter plans but we still had several great adventures between the Auroura train that we rode up on from Anchorage to Chena Hot Springs and visiting the white mountains. The Fountainhead auto museum is a must visit as well! The road was quite soft during our stay but that is too be expected during spring break up. Definitely would stay here again if we make it back up to FAI.
Cozy rustic cabin in the woods
This property is truly a great Fairbanks experience! The house was extremely clean and had been sanitized having all the smells of that but provided candles to make it smell great and feel cozy and like home. The Toyo stove worked great even in the cold winter. The shower has endless hot water with propane, amazing to come in from a cold day to that. We didn't cook but had a full kitchen with everything needed and it supplies coffee, with a full fridge and freezer. The living room and dining area were nice and the bed was super comfy! The outside is lit nicely with Christmas lights an done well. It even has a system to ensure its longevity which was neat. Simon was very kind and his kennel is 1 of a kind. I used to mush and I know kennels like these with well mannered loving dogs if hard to find. He cares for them and the mushing isn't commercially done, he gives you the full experience to see how much work it is to cleaning, setting up, running the trail, and the care the dogs need afterwards. I had always known that but my husband got to see it first hand which was all pet of the experience. It's within 15 to 20 minutes of town and airport, close to the nb college and a beautiful drive to the woods. Close to Murphys Dome to watch Northern lights too. Thanks Simon for a great stay!
Thanks Kelsey I am glad you enjoyed the cabin and dog mushing experience. Thanks for your business and for taking good care of the cabin.
Great private cozy cabin!
Rugged outhouse conditions but all else good. Could have used some more fresh towels.
Hi Margaret thanks for your review. If you had asked I could have sent more towels down but we are not like a hotel supplying fresh towels each day.But I do respond to requests as csn
Great place to stay. Great location.
Simon made our stay very easy, and the cabin was perfect for the two of us.
Cool cabin and generous host!
First, Simon was incredibly generous: due to weather and cancelled flights we missed the first night of our stay and he refunded the first night without us even asking. The cabin is cozy with everything you need, and is well situated close to Fairbanks. Great stay!
