Janet Hamilton purchased this apartment in 2003

Why Janet Hamilton chose County Down

Simply....the views are second to none! We have travelled the world and stayed in many wonderful places but the view of the mountains and the bay at Dundrum captured our heart. We plan to retire there and can't imagine ourselves ever parting with it! It has been our pleasure to share it with guests from all around the world and many return each year, sometimes twice or three times a year to enjoy it! I think it has captured their heart also!

What makes this apartment unique

The apartment is one of only three properties at The Quay which have floor to ceiling corner windows taking in both the views of the Bay and the Mountains. We may be bias but we believe we chose the best spot! It is bright and spacious and as soon as you walk in through the doors, we guarantee you will relax! It is totally calm and peaceful and it wouldn't be hard to lose track of time kicking back and enjoying the ever changing views. We take pride in how we present the apartment for our guests and the furnishings, artwork, bedlinen etc are all of good quality. Believe me, we want you to have a wonderful experience and to enjoy your stay at the apartment as much as we do!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We received these lovely comments on a "thank you" card from our recent guests "Dear Janet, We had a really lovely holiday at your wonderful apartment. It is so comfortable and convenient and we will never forget the views of the bay and mountains. There are so many nice places close to Dundrum and we enjoyed walks at Murlough and around the mountains and the weather was mainly good. Many thanks for everything. Best wishes to you and your family"

A Little Piece of Heaven

  • 5 of 5

This apartment is out of this world. The views are breath taking and the stylish design of the interior of the property makes it feel at once beautiful but also welcoming and homely. Every detail of provision has been made by the owner to consider your every need e.g. beach towel, picnic set, games to play and books to read. When you enter the Master Bedroom and the main living area your response is bound to be wow. Dundrum itself provides an interesting castle also with stunning views and several good or better eateries as recommended by the owner. The area is one of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the Mountains of Mourne offer a backdrop from the bedroom window. we would highly recommend this property and the area in general to create a delightful and memorable holiday.

stunning setting

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week in this apartment in Dundrum. Beautiful views from the lounge and master bedroom. Hard to tear ourselves away but were able to play golf in three nearby courses, walk in the Mournes and entertain friends.

Would really recommend both apartment and location. Easy walk into Dundrum village for a range of restaurants and a visit to the castle.

Absolutely stunning apartment, with amazing views.

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was stunning. It had a beautiful view and was very well stocked. It was a joy to wake up in the morning to the view over Dundrum bay. It was incredibly spacious with the added advantage of an ensuite. There is a second double room which again is very pretty and spacious, with a third single room with plenty of room for a younger child. I truly couldn't have asked for a nicer place to stay in and we will be returning.

All communications with Janet were brilliant, she was very friendly and helpful.

There's so much to see in and around Dundrum including the Mourne mountains which are the main backdrop to the view from the apartment.

The Dundrum Inn is a friendly local pub serving the best Guiness which is a must.

Just up the street from the apartment is the local fish and and chip shop which serve the best food. We found that a serving was sufficient for 2 as they were large! All food is cooked to order so be prepared to wait, however they're definitely worth the wait. A few yards from this is the local shop stocking a wide range of foods, fresh coffee, ice cream and housing an ATM. Newcastle is a short drive which has a wider range of shops and supermarket. We stayed for 2 weeks but truly could've stayed for another 2 as there is so much to do and see around the area, alongside further a field up the Causeway coastal route and the North.

I recommend you take the time to drive around Ireland and uncover it's beauty and if you're a Game of Thrones fan then there's lots of filming locations to visit.

Beautiful apartment with ever-changing views

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous time in Janet's apartment - really one of the best holiday rentals we have stayed in (and we have stayed in quite a few...). Just sitting there and watching the tides change - and the colours - was so relaxing and grounding. The views are absolutely amazing, always something to watch - we saw some seals bobbing about at high tide, herons and other water birds stalking around when the the tide was out.

Apart from the fantastic location and views, we really appreciated the thought and care that seems to have gone into choosing everything from decor to appliances to all the little bits and pieces that are often missing in rental places (throws/blankets to snuggle up in, serviettes, local information, guide books...). Everything worked, no hussle at all.

Thank you also for the bottle of wine, snacks and nice welcoming note, and the quick and easy communication beforehand! Definitely hope to be back.

This spacious, luxury 3 bedroom apartment offers stunning, uninterrupted mountain and bay views. This is a superb spot for bird-watching and seal-spotting. There is a beach right at your doorstep and you are a short walk to the nature reserve of Murlough Bay and the ruins of Dundrum castle which offers superb views and is great for picnics. The nearby village contains a supermarket, antique shops, beauty salons and some renowned restaurants. You're in Ireland so there are plenty of pubs within walking distance! A short drive away will take you to the town of Newcastle at the foot of the Mournes and Castlewellan where you have access to any number of outdoor activities, golf, fishing, mountain climbing, canoeing, abseiling, sailing, mountain biking, tennis etc. Newcastle has a heated outdoor swimming pool during the summer months. You are a 30 minute drive to Strangford Lough, 40 minutes to Belfast ,1.5 hrs to the stunning Antrim Coast and Giants Causeway and 2 hours to Dublin.

Golf: Royal County Down is one of the oldest and most renowned Golf Clubs in Ireland with traditions dating back for more than one hundred years. In 2007 the Walker Cup matches were held here. Situated in Newcastle, where in the immortal words of Percy French, 'The Mountains of Mourne sweep down to the sea', Royal County Down is not only a fine test of golf but has accompanying scenery that is spellbinding. Alongside the Championship Links, Royal County Down has a second course, The Annesley Links. Laid out beneath the same massive, almost menacing backdrop, the Annesley Links is nowhere near as intimidating or as formidable a challenge as the Championship Links, but then it was never intended to be. It is a course for everyone. (Extracts from the official Royal County Down Golf Course website). For further details tel: (028) 4372 3314
