Why Janet Hamilton chose Newcastle

Simply....the views are second to none! We have travelled the world and stayed in many wonderful places but the view of the mountains and the bay at Dundrum captured our heart. We plan to retire there and can't imagine ourselves ever parting with it! It has been our pleasure to share it with guests from all around the world and many return each year, sometimes twice or three times a year to enjoy it! I think it has captured their heart also!

What makes this apartment unique

The apartment is one of only three properties at The Quay which have floor to ceiling corner windows taking in both the views of the Bay and the Mountains. We may be bias but we believe we chose the best spot! It is bright and spacious and as soon as you walk in through the doors, we guarantee you will relax! It is totally calm and peaceful and it wouldn't be hard to lose track of time kicking back and enjoying the ever changing views. We take pride in how we present the apartment for our guests and the furnishings, artwork, bedlinen etc are all of good quality. Believe me, we want you to have a wonderful experience and to enjoy your stay at the apartment as much as we do!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We received these lovely comments on a "thank you" card from our recent guests "Dear Janet, We had a really lovely holiday at your wonderful apartment. It is so comfortable and convenient and we will never forget the views of the bay and mountains. There are so many nice places close to Dundrum and we enjoyed walks at Murlough and around the mountains and the weather was mainly good. Many thanks for everything. Best wishes to you and your family"

Golf: Royal County Down is one of the oldest and most renowned Golf Clubs in Ireland with traditions dating back for more than one hundred years. In 2007 the Walker Cup matches were held here. Situated in Newcastle, where in the immortal words of Percy French, 'The Mountains of Mourne sweep down to the sea', Royal County Down is not only a fine test of golf but has accompanying scenery that is spellbinding. Alongside the Championship Links, Royal County Down has a second course, The Annesley Links. Laid out beneath the same massive, almost menacing backdrop, the Annesley Links is nowhere near as intimidating or as formidable a challenge as the Championship Links, but then it was never intended to be. It is a course for everyone. (Extracts from the official Royal County Down Golf Course website). For further details tel: (028) 4372 3314

FABULOUS STAY AT 39 THE QUAY

  • 5 of 5

I stayed there over last weekend 17-18/11/17 with 2 friends and all of us can't wait to go back. The apartment was all that we hoped for and more. Finished to the highest standard, everything we could need and more and the creme de la creme is the location. I think I might asked the owner Janet to sell it to me in my retirement :) Another bonus to be in walking distance of Mourne Seaford and the Bucks Head restaurant and the wee local pub Tonne Rurary was just the best to have a bit of craic with the locals. Wish I was still there

outstanding apartment - spectacular views!

  • 5 of 5

The apartment is astounding! you walk into the main living area to be met by the most fantastic views of Dundrum Bay. The facilities within the apartment are five star. Nothing has been forgotten, to ensure your stay is comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the apartment, relaxing and unwinding from the frenetic pace which is our usual life. The apartment is in a perfect position for a base for travelling round County Down enjoying all Ireland has to offer. We would not hesitate in recommending the apartment to others. Thank you Janet for your hospitality and your kind welcome gift.

For bay and mountain views a fantastic apartment.

  • 5 of 5

A superb apartment in a fabulous location overlooking the inner bay and the Mournes. We would of happily moved in full time! Watching the wildlife was fascinating with the Heron a daily visitor alongside the Cormorants, Oyster Catchers and Curlews. The apartment was spotlessly clean and very spacious. Well equiped kitchen, bathroom and shower room. Heating was very efficient and WiFi connected seamlessly. Only a short walk from Mourne Seafood Bar and Bucks Head, both recommended, and Blue Bay Cafe for fabulous scones. Dundrum is a great centre to explore the area and this apartment would be a fabulous base to make the most of your stay.

Fabulous apartment in idyllic location

  • 5 of 5

We were a family of 3 generations staying for a week in August. The apartment was ideal for all of us. Our 4 year old granddaughter loved her bedroom with toys and books. The apartment was spacious and exceedingly well equipped. There were the most amazing views of the bay and Mourne Mountains from the living area and one of the bedrooms. I could have been happy spending all my time on the balcony or on the chair by the window just watching the bird life, tide changes

and the incredible sunsets, however there is so much to do locally and we took the advice left by Janet and visited Silent Valley, Murlough beach, managed by the National Trust and played hide and seek at Dundrum Castle. We also had fantastic meals at the Buck's Head and Mourne Seafood restaurant as well as delicious scones, raspberry and white chocolate were favourites from the Bay Cafe! Janet made the whole booking process really simple and was very helpful in telling us where the nearest indoor pool was for a rainy day. The wine, crackers and chutney Janet left for us were a lovely touch and much appreciated. We would certainly recommend to anyone and hope to return.

This is an amazing apartment with an amazing view!

  • 5 of 5

A total gem! Janet has thought of everything, from a welcome basket of gifts to a well stocked kiddo room with lots of toys and books. Beautifully decorated, so peaceful, and very well appointed. A short walk in to town and up to the castle (perfect for a sunset picnic) and a short drive in to Newcastle with a large grocery store and seaside shopping. Would stay again in a heartbeat.
