Very well placed. The instruction made it easy to find. The owner has a shop just round the corner so communication with her wasnt a problem. As there was no one before us we were able to check in earlier. And there was an option to leave bags for a few hours at the end of our stay as our flight was some hours after checkout. The owner was very helpful.
Location and Guiliana excellent!
Easy walking everywhere. Convenient to all historic sites. Friendly neighborhood vibe.
The apartment is lovely and the family who runs it are very helpful. The best thing going for it is the location. It's right in the centre of town, by the cathedral. Virtually all the main sites are in walking distance. Restaurants, cafes, bars just minutes away.
The kitchen/ living area is bigger than the photos show. The apartment is in a perfect location, really only a few metres from the duomo and is tastefully decorated. Giuliani is a fabulous, generous host. Beware if you have a car that it is in the restricted traffic zone and parking is difficult. Highly recommend this accomodation.
A casa di Giuliana alla Cattedrale is located in the heart of the historic center of Palermo, about 50 meters from the majestic cathedral of the city. This is the ideal place from which to reach the main tourist attractions of the Sicilian capital: the Quattro Canti; "Piazza della Vergogna" with its famous fountain; the church of Martorana and San Cataldo; the Massimo theater, the largest in Italy and the third one in Europe; the International Puppet Museum; the Palatine Chapel, the Royal Palace and many magnificent baroque and Arab-Norman churches. All these attractions are easily reachable on foot within few minutes.
Palermo offers many other beautiful places to visit: the Chinese Palace, an oriental building, surrounded by an elegant garden that extends to the feet of Monte Pellegrino, a hill famous for its Sanctuary and where you can enjoy a wonderful landscape; the botanical garden that protects many important plant species; Castello Utveggio, from which you can see a breathtaking view, and finally many ancient palaces and churches whose artistic and historical value is truly priceless.
In addition, Palermo is full of hidden attractions that you can find in squares, alleyways and even underground! Let yourself be attracted by mysterious places like the Qanat, the Catacombs and the itineraries of the Beati Paoli!
This city rich in art, history, architecture, culture and tradition will captivate you and will surely make you fall in love!
GASTRONOMY: Palermo also captures your senses with its typical cuisine, full of unique smells and flavors. Our desserts like cassata and cannolo are famous all over the world; pasta with sardines, arancine, baked anelletti, aubergine caponata .... food in Sicily is a real ritual !! A very important Palermitan tradition is the street food kitchen, which includes a wide range of food products such as pane and panelle, pani ca 'meusa, sfincione, stigghiola, vastedda and so on .. What are they? Come here and find it out!
FESTIVALS: Palermo celebrates its patron saint, Santa Rosalia, since 1625. The so-called "Fistinu" is the most important festival for the people of Palermo. It is celebrated on July 15th, but the most important celebrations take place the night before, when the statue of the Saint, starting from the Cathedral, wanders through the streets of the old part of the city, which are full of food and toys stands. At the end of the procession of the saint, you can not miss the traditional fireworks display accompanied by an exciting performance of classical music that takes place at the so-called Foro Italico, that is the port of the city, just 15 minutes walk from A casa di Giuliana.
This religious celebration is officially recognized as an intangible heritage of Italy by the Central Institute for Demo-Ethno-Anthropology.
MONDELLO AND NATURAL RESERVES
Mondello is the elegant and renowned seaside resort of Palermo. It is famous all over the world for its crystalline sea, its long white sandy beach, its sumptuous Art Nouveau villas, the magnificent Charleston, a restaurant on the sea!
Here you can visit two natural reserves: Capo Gallo and Monte Pellegrino.
The Capo Gallo Natural Reserve can be reached via a coastal path in the western part of Mondello. Monte Gallo is a promontory full of caves overlooking the sea, whose most famous cave is the 'Grotta dell'Olio', a suggestive cave in the sea that can only be reached by boat. The water is crystal clear and the sandy bottom illuminated by the rays of the sun that pass by some cracks of the rock, make the backdrop of this cave truly wonderful! This natural reserve is rich in plants and animals typical of the Mediterranean climate: among the plants you can see the brooms of Gasparrini, wild orchids, among the animals the Sicilian Sparrowhawk, foxes, wild rabbits, peregrine falcons, real sea birds etc ..
The Monte Pellegrino Nature Reserve includes the entire mountain of the same name and the royal estate of the Favorita. Goethe described it as 'the most beautiful promontory in the world', perhaps thanks to its magical contrasts, to the different colors of nature, to its steep slopes alternating with the practicable plains. Here is the most important pilgrimage site of Palermo, the Sanctuary of Santa Rosalia, with its particular rock church and the famous statue of the Saint that dominates and protects the city of Palermo.
