About the property

Two rental apartments each with separate bedrooms (Each sleeps 2)

Casa Flamboyan, a spectacular, colorful, oceanfront home, takes complete advantage of its perfect location - from every vantage point in each suite you can see the Bay of Mujeres - with sailboats anchored and Cancun in the distance and the Caribbean Ocean with its incredible shades of turquoise, green, and blue. You can see sunrises and sunsets from inside and from beautiful decks on both sides of the house. A two-suite (both suites are on the second floor) stunning, contemporary Mexican retreat, Casa Flamboyan was designed by renowned Mexican artist and architect Jorge Carlos Martell Correa.

Guests will appreciate the contemporary Mexican motif, the beautiful custom wood furnishings, original art, and the attention to detail. The owners provide all the perfect amenities necessary for an island vacation along with tropical breezes and warm hospitality.

Casa Flamboyan offers two private rental suites. The two suites - Real, and Azul - are bright, airy, and beautifully decorated with original art and hand-made furniture crafted at a sustainable forest project south of Tulum on the way to Chetumal. All the suites enjoy spectacular views and breezes from every room.

Guests in each of the two suites enjoy complete privacy. Public gathering areas of the house include the full bayside palapa porch for enjoying the sunset with cocktails or for sharing lunch while watching the sailboats in the bay; the freshwater infinity pool with an expansive deck overlooking the Caribbean; and the rooftop with its beautiful 360-degree view - a lovely spot to rest in the hammocks or sunbathe in privacy and experience the relaxing life of Isla Mujeres.

On the Caribbean side of the house, there are stairs that lead to the coral beach - here you can comb the beach for shells and sea glass or search the tide pools for marine life. At night, you will want to sit on your private decks or the roof top and watch the stars in the sky - stars that seem so close you can touch them. In the morning, while you sip your coffee, each sunrise is more gorgeous than the morning before. Experience the delight of getting up early to see the first light of day.

On the bayside, the unusual palapa-roofed stair tower takes you to the second floor (Real and Azul) and then on to the roof top. The gourd light carved with flamboyan flowers was created for the house by an artisan in Puerto Morelos.

In each suite you will find a notebook that shares all the information you may need about the island - activities, helpful information, etc. - as well as personal recommendations for restaurants. Casa Flamboyan is easy walking distance - or just a short and inexpensive taxi ride - from downtown shops and restaurants, the ferry pier, and North Beach.

The home consists of:

* Real and Azul — two complete one-bedroom apartments (with full kitchens) on the upper level. Each of these suites with curved walls, extraordinary bathrooms, and amazing views have a full palapa porch on the bay side and a private deck overlooking the Caribbean.

* Roof-top dinning, fiestas, sunning, stargazing, or relaxing on a hammock under a palapa.

The suites at Casa Flamboyan are on the upper floor and, because of their design, are not suitable for young children or anyone with disabilities. Older children must be accompanied by an adult in the same unit.

About Harriet Lowe

On 22 August 2005, we purchased Villa Roca, a small, one-story house at Numero 11, Mar Caribe—Calle Aeropuerto. We began the transformation to Casa Flamboyan immediately. We wanted to expand the house upward to create the two suites and outward toward the Caribbean to include a large deck and pool. We wanted to be sure our home on Isla Mujeres allowed all of our guests to enjoy the view of both the Caribbean and the Bay of Mujeres, sunrises and sunsets, tropical breezes, and comfortable hospitality.

We invite you to visit Casa Flamboyan - it and the island are a renewing and regenerating experience - a serene and idyllic spot for a vacation with friends and family.

Buenas vacaciones,

Why Harriet Lowe chose Isla Mujeres

We love all the restaurants, sitting on the beach with our feet in the sand eating fish that was caught that day watching the sunset and colorful fishing boats.

What makes this apartment unique

A love of sailing has lead to the rehabilitation of a 34 foot Gemini Catamaran found in the islands boat yard and we now get to sail in the surreal Bay of Mujeres. Snorkeling, diving, fishing, swimming with the whales in the summer are available activities.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Just enjoyed 4 relaxing days at Casa Flamboyan to round out a great 1st trip to Mexico. This house is very conveniently situated between town for restaurants and the great beaches of Castille de Garaffon & Playa Lancheros. Enjoyed Casa Flamboyan immensely!

Views and breezes

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent a fabulous two weeks i September on Isla Mujeres, in lovely Casa Flamboyan.

The views from all levels of the house are spectacular. I loved watching the sunrise from the back deck in the morning, then moving to the front verandah to read a book in the hammock overlooking the Bay. Afternoons we would relax by the pool and watch the pods of dolphins play just off shore. Evenings would start on the front verandah watching the sunset, and end on the back deck watching the full moon rise over the Caribbean, washing the ocean with sparkling light, and cruise ships glimmering on the horizon. The huge waves crashing on shore provided the perfect musical accompaniment. We fell asleep many nights watching and listening to the surf.

The cross breezes were beautiful and we only turned on the AC at bedtime when it was time to close and lock the doors for the night. The pool area and back deck were always comfortable even on the hottest days due to the breezes. Just beautiful.

The apartment itself (Azul) is cute, with a small kitchen and sitting room, a bedroom and bathroom with a window overlooking the ocean in the shower. Lots of storage, amazing natural lighting thanks to all the neat cutouts and skylights, and great night time lighting with dimmable lamps and pot lights. There were ceiling fans in the bedroom, living room and on the front verandah. Real is a bigger unit with a proper kitchen. Keep that in mind if you plan on cooking a lot. We like Azul for its privacy.

We were so lucky that no one else was renting while we were there, and we had the entire property to ourselves. We spent a lot of time lounging on the many decks and patios, and swimming in the refreshing pool. We beach combed and walked a lot.

Proximity to town is excellent, easily walkable along the malecon with its beautiful views and breezes. The colonias are also an easy walk away. Cabs are plentiful and all you had to do was stand in front of the house and one would pass by every minute or two. There is off street parking for your golf cart, as well.

Lupe was in every couple of days to tidy up and change sheets and towels; she was very thorough yet unobtrusive. She was easily accessible should we require anything at all.

All in all, we had a very nice time and would recommend this house to family and friends, and would stay there again ourselves.

Best location on the island

  • 5 of 5

We spent a lovely and peaceful week at Casa Flamboyan the first part of May. We stayed in Real, which is thoughtfully laid out to take maximum advantage of the space and the views. The lighting is especially well done – well-placed skylights and clerestory windows make artificial light unnecessary in the daytime, and at night you can choose everything from low-light romantic ambiance to comfortable reading. The kitchen is nicely sized and well-equipped, and the stove is placed so you can watch the ocean while cooking. The bed is super comfortable. With the veranda doors open, the sound of the ocean mostly cancels out any traffic noise (no problem with it being right on the air strip – we saw a total of three small planes during our visit). We never turned on the A/C -- the cross-breeze, along with ceiling fans, meant our hideaway was comfortable even on hot days. The views, especially on the ocean side, are fabulous -- we spent many blissful hours sitting on the veranda reading or just watching and listening to the waves. The beach below is a treasure trove of sea glass, with some nice shells here and there. It’s an easy 15-minute walk into town – most of the time we cut over and took the sea walk that goes along the Caribbean side. We rented a golf cart two days and toured the rest of the island, which just confirmed our impression that Harriet and Dick managed to snag the best location on Isla. The one thing we would have liked is a grill, so we could take advantage of the fresh fish market. All in all a delightful experience and one we would gladly repeat.
