Rugged coastline, ancient towns, lakes and forests beckon both holidaymakers, beach lovers and hikers alike to come closer and enjoy wonderful expanses of diverse countryside.
From the inland lakes and forests located in the northern extremities of the Morbihan department to the sandy and craggy coves in the South with rocks that have been washed by the ocean over centuries look out towards the sea and offer some of the best views in Brittany. Little walkways take the adventurous to places from bygone years, through walkways that take you to little coves that have been there since time began and that keep their charm, created by nature rather than man.
Morbihan has much to offer those who seek a balance of relaxation and activity. Keen golfers have a range of options available within easy reach- the 9 hole, Golf du Rimaison course is only 16km from the cottages. 18 hole courses can be found at Kernic, Ploermel and Auray, all less than an hour away.
Excellent fishing can be found locally in the rivers Scorff, Blavet and Sarre. Those heading to the inland lakes can enjoy beaches and fishing too and a host of other attractions including, walking, swimming, cycling, kayaking, sailing and horse riding.
The closest town to Fourdan is Guemene-Sur-Scorff where you can get provisions, take in the local sights/attractions and introduce yourself to French cuisine.
The beaches of the south coast welcome the visitor who likes sandy beaches, which are safe, and at Auray, the port of St. Goustan offers you a small medieval fishing town with little street cafes that overlook the water. On a larger scale Vannes is also a port and here the winding streets take you back in time, whilst on an upbeat note, the shops are up to date and all the trappings of a large town within easy reach.
For those wishing to recuperate from illness, the thalassotherapie centres of Quiberon offer patients relaxation in natural healing waters, which are renowned worldwide and have been proven to be beneficial.
Morbihan offers a wealth of architectural marvels, and has wonderful churches; abbeys and you can step back in time and visit the Chateau at Josselin, or the old towns of Vannes, Rocheforte-en-Terre, La Gacilly, Quimper, Pontivy and many more. The historically inclined tourist will find themselves pulled back into the days of the megaliths, huge standing stones that tower above the earth along the coastline at Carnac, geologists can seek out the lay lines of this magical place.
Food is wonderful, and a three course meal can be had for as little as 10 euros a head, although for families, there are a host of self service restaurants that offer children’s menus at very reasonable prices.

We have just arrived back from nearly 2 weeks at this beautiful gite. The house we stayed in was, Cedar, and with 2 adults, a 4 year old, 21 month old and 6 week old baby, it was perfect for us. It has been beautifully renovated, everything is spotlessly clean and towels and linens are all provided.
With a very young family in tow, stair gates, travel cot (with really comfortable bedding) and bed rails were provided and there were black out blinds in both bedrooms which was a real bonus (something I hadn't thought of but again, the owners had). All mod cons were in the kitchen and the wifi was super fast.
The grounds were so safe for the kids to run around, the swimming pool is behind a gate (lovely to swim in) so you don't have to worry about it and with the sand pit, trampoline, swings, climbing frame, bikes etc there was plenty to keep the kids busy. Jack the dog was a huge attraction - probably the most patient friendly dog I've ever come across - despite being constantly petted and chased by our boys.
And so to Geoff and Chris who own these holiday homes - they could not have been more helpful to us. They were always on hand if we needed assistance but we still felt like we we had the place to ourselves and They were so patient with our kids who followed them around whenever they got a chance!
There is plenty to see in the area, lovely beaches in Carnac about 2 hours away but we mostly hung around, watching the kids exhaust themselves with all the space and activities there. We hope to return and would highly recommend this place to anyone with kids (of any ages) who want them to have lots of freedom to wander, play etc without having to watch them every second. It far exceeded our expectations.
From the moment we arrived at Les Verts Paturages to the boarding of the ferry on our way home, everything was just how we wanted it.
We were happily greeted by Jack, (the family dog) and led down to the picturesque 17th Century barn that has been sympathetically renovated into three lovely gites. We were due to stay for one week in the gite named Cedar.
The Hosts - Well, what can we say. We were made to feel incredibly welcome by Chris and Geoff. They are the two responsible for the beautiful conversion of this once barn into the tranquil place that it now is. They would do everything they could to make our holiday an enjoyable one. If you wanted a chat or advice, they were there to help.
The Gite (cedar) - The gite was lovely. Each gite has it's own individual chracteristics, cedar has a wonderfully large and impressive fireplace with a log burner to keep you cosy on the not so warm days. The exposed beams and comfy furnishings make this a real home from home. All appliances that you may need are there, all modern, easy to use and immaculately clean. The gite has three bathrooms with two showers (posh ones with adjustable jets and red hot instant water!) .
Grounds - The gardens and spacious and manicured. The outdoor areas invite you to try out french boules, swingball, badminton (on request), and swimming in the outdoor heated pool. The opportunity in the summer months to sun bathe and enjoy a bbq are also easy to be taken with the included facilities.
Area - The area is incredibly tranquil, the gites are nestled in expansive farmland with a whole host of wildlife. (we spotted deer, hare, and kingfishers down by the River Blavet). Areas to visit are the large chateau at Josselin, the art exhibition at La Gacilly and we enjoyed moules et frites in St Nicholas, where you can enjoy boating, canoeing and fishing in the summer months.
This was a truly enjoyable and relaxing time all made better by our hosts Chris and Geoff. We will definately be looking for a return visit in the not too distant future.
We stayed in July for one week in Cedar, the middle cottage, and after arriving by sat nav which, by putting in Fourdan, guided us to the front gates it soon became apparent that this place was very special and exceeded our expectations.
Fully equipped and immaculately maintained there was no need to worry, even the small touches like a couple of bottles of wine and bottle of milk in the fridge to make a cup of tea when we got there was just so thoughtful. Very child friendly with free use of safety equipment in the cottage and of course the enormous and safe garden for our 3 year old to run free... even a treehouse with a play kitchen, a big trampoline and swing, hammock and of course very decent sized pool which she loved.
There was a huge supermarket selling everything you could ever need less than 10 min drive away, which was a huge relief for self catering, there were also small shops and a nice little restaurant we visited nearby too. Free use of the bikes was a lovely thought but maybe for the more energetic (unlike us!)
The wifi and satellite tv meant we really did feel at home, we also got decent mobile signal too (we had orange/Tmobile). One hour from the absolutely beautiful beach which was quite busy but not crowded, loved it but if the truth be told it was the days we spent chilling around the cottage that we relaxed the most. Oh and all those stars at night! Wow! :0 amazing!
Ticked all boxes for a relaxing getaway, and we have some happy memories of a very special place with plenty to see and do within reasonable distance. Thanks to the owners who made us feel very welcome and comfortable, would recommend ;)
We stayed for 2 weeks in the middle one of the 3 gites which was beautifully presented, clean, tidy and very welcoming. The woodburning fire was wonderful for the occasional cool evening. En-suite facilities were provided for each of the bedrooms.
The property is located in a very peaceful spot amidst surrounding fields and woodland - the only sounds to be heard were natural ones! The extensive grounds are ideal for children to play in complete safety and an open air pool was available although we didn't use it due to the cool weather we had during our stay. There are lots of walking and cycling opportunities and a good number of fascinating mediaeval towns to be explored within a fairly short drive, the nearest town being only 10 minutes away, providing ample supermarket as well as traditional shopping. A number of seaside towns are well within reach for a day's outing.
The owners were very friendly and helpful, providing plenty of suggestions of places to visit, walks to do or places to eat. We would heartily recommend this to anyone who wants to explore the area or just to chill out and relax.
Les Verts Paturages is located in 1.5 acres of secluded, wood lined, child safe, gardens at the end of a half mile no through lane. Although secluded and tranquil we are only 6 km from the medieval town of Gueméné-sur-Scorff where you will find a large supermarket, banks, bars, boulangeries, chemists, gift and clothes shops and restaurants.......... We are ideally located to explore the beautiful countryside, sandy beaches and historic towns of Brittany.
There are picturesque walks and cycle tracks through ancient woodland and along the Rivers Blavet, Sarre, and Scorff which are ideal for fishing.
Kayaks, pedalos and electric boats can be hired on the Blavet.
Water sports are available nearby on Lac de Guerledan which is the largest lake in Brittany and some 12 km long.
Quad bikes and an adventure forest are within 5 minutes of Les Verts Paturages.
Or just relax around the pool and enjoy the peace and quiet of the large gardens with a glass or two of your favourite wine.
