About Kim Meyer
Kim, who is from New Orleans, Louisiana, has been a frequent visitor to Gatlinburg since early childhood. After experiencing the beauty of the mountains, views, waterfalls and all of the activities offered in the area, she knew she wanted to have a vacation home here. When the cabin became available, she convinced her husband, John, who is from Lafayette, Louisiana, to buy and renovate it. Black Bear Ridge was born and for the past ten years has been upgraded and kept in pristine condition. Our cabin had been with a rental company but we decided to change to VRBO. We hope you give us a chance to introduce you to a true mountain experience.

Some of these amenities include Dollywood, Splash Country water park, the aquarium, Titanic, The Island, which includes unique shops, dining and a 200 foot ferris wheel. The dining includes a vast array of restaurants such as The Park, Cherokee Grill, Smoky Mountain Brewery and No Way Jose's. The activities include hiking in the Smokies, ice skating ( year round), skiing, white water rafting, tubing, zip lining, shopping in the arts and crafts community where local artisans create and sell their crafts. Great hiking getaway
We really enjoyed the Black Bear cabin. It was close to the park and Gatlinburg, but still secluded for privacy. We hiked every day in the park, so it was great to use to hot tub for sore muscles. It was also nice to enjoy some time on the large porch and enjoy the quiet and scenery. We left a few items of clothes behind and the owners were kind enough to ship them back to us as well. I would, and will recommend this cabin to anyone interested in going to the park.
Close to civilization but gives the impression of seclusion
We very much enjoyed our stay here and were surprised how close we were to everything Gatlinburg had to offer. The cabin is in a very peaceful setting and in our experience we never felt like our privacy was compromised. The hot tub was a life saver after hiking to Abram’s Falls in Cades Cove. We will definitely stay here again if we ever come back to Gatlinburg.
The cabin was lovely. It felt like home, and was very comfortable. The only bad thing was that there was a big cabin higher up on the mountain that had wild parties every night with Saturday night being the worst. Sounded like a large group of drunk frat boys. They were so loud on Saturday after 11:30pm that I could hear them from the bedroom. They not only loud but extremely foul mouthed. This was coming from the large cabin that is directly above, when standing in the driveway with your back to the house. Just was expecting peace and quiet and that was not what these people had in mind.
Other than that there wasn’t a bad thing to say about our cabin, and our stay was great.
Vacation and anniversary/birthday getaway...
We stayed for a week. Cabin was very nice, comfortable, and clean. Late summer storms/showers nearly everyday made us glad to have 4x4 capabilities for the trek to and from the cabin, especially the driveway. We didn’t have any issues and was able to manage. Other than that we enjoyed the stay!
Kim and I thank you for choosing Black Bear Ridge for your getaway. Keep us in mind for future travels.
Great little cabin with lots of privacy
Love this cabin! 2nd time staying here. Love the seclusion and privacy. Housekeeping needs to be more meticulous, there was a lot of dust under the bed, dead insects in the window sills and the dishwasher did not clean the dishes well at all. But overall a very enjoyable stay!
Kim and I thank you for choosing Black Bear Ridge during your stay in the Smoky Mountains. The housekeeping concerns you noted has been addressed.
Lovely place to stay!
My husband and I absolutely loved staying here. We came to celebrate our anniversary. It was perfect for the two of us. Nice, neat, and very clean. It’s in the perfect spot, feels like you’re secluded but not to far from town. Owners were very nice and responsive to all of our questions.
Being next to the Smoky Mountain National Park affords one the opportunity to hike, enjoy the views from your car, see nature at its finest and take spectacular photos to enjoy for years to come. The entertainment is endless: World Class Exhibits such as Titanic, the aquarium and Dollywood and many others. Dining experiences range from the very casual to fine dining. For those who enjoy shopping, there is something for everyone.
