Overview

About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms + Loft + Office, 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

2015 is our tenth year listing our lake house. Our house is situated on a very quiet location on the back of Twitchell Pond - a smaller Maine pond (mid-size lake)that prohibits noisy watercraft and has a very shallow public boat launch. The house is a well kept cedar home with beautiful views on a dead-end road (only cottage traffic). Secluded swimming and sunbathing with Southwest facing deck and dock for afternoon and evening sunsets. We have a deep water dock for great swimming and diving. There are two quiet sandy beaches with shallow access for little kids nearby (walking distance). Our house has a heated outdoor shower (full bath/shower inside house too). A canoe, sailboat and kayaks are available on property. There are flower gardens and berry bushes surrounding the house and lot. This is peaceful paradise! Quiet walks, hikes and biking are just a few steps away. Local town, theater, golf and grocery, great brew-pub are 15 minutes away by car. 20 minutes to Ski area, zip lines, mountain biking, golf courses, guided fly fishing

About Scott Broughton

Tammy and I are from Portsmouth, NH and both own our own businesses nearby. We built the lake house in 1995 for skiing and getting away from it all. It's been a great place for a reality check. We try to improve the property a little every year. Thank you looking at our property and if you stay, we hope you return again!

Why Scott Broughton chose Bethel - Sunday River area

Peaceful, relaxing and private area. All other creature comforts are nearby, but that's not why we come here. It's so quiet and night, it takes a few nights to get used to. Sitting by the fire pit at night making smores and looking up at stars is awesome and hanging out on the dock and deck is very relaxing. It's hard to leave this place.

What makes this house unique

Outdoor shower. Great roads and trails for running, Mt. biking. Garden and grounds, flowers around the house. Fly fishing on nearby rivers (guides available) and moose watching at night.

updated property, beautiful scenery

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here May 2017 and had a great time. We came to "unplug" and get a way from everything and enjoy some quiet time together, and this was a great place to do just that. The home is updated, clean and very comfortable. The views are magnificent. We spent hours on the deck, just sitting and decompressing. We found everything we needed in a clean kitchen, and we got to use the kayaks to take a spin around the little pond. A word of caution for the month of May...may flies were bothersome. Other than those nasty little buggers, everything else was enjoyable. Also note that the property was not as "secluded" as we expected...neighbors are very close. Nonetheless, we enjoyed ourselves tremendously and loved the home a lot. To get something to eat we took a quick ride to Bethel about 15 min up the road and found several eateries and shops. We would stay at this home again, and we appreciate the opportunity to use the lovely home.

Owner's Response: Hi Chris. Thanks for your nice review and for staying at our house. We wish we had perfect seclusion on Twitchell Pond. The black flies are typically a hassle with damp weather. The day the dragon flies come out, they literally disappear in an matter of hours. They are the Maine State Bird. Come again in June. No bugs to speak of!

Beautiful Setting and a Great Property

  • 5 of 5

We would recommend this place to anyone who enjoys a winter getaway close to several ski mountains and great hiking. The cabin is extremely efficient and well maintained by the owners with ongoing improvements with each visit. Our family has many great memories here and we appreciate and look forward to our time at the cabin.

Perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

I brought my husband here as a surprise for his 40th birthday. His eyes POPPED when we drove up. The house is so gorgeous, smells like a cedar chest, and is so relaxing! We did a quick grocery run at the local store in Bethel (about 15 minutes away) but there was spices, coffee filters, olive oil, etc at the cabin. We enjoyed our coffees on the porch each morning and soaked in the sun in the afternoons. We ventured out a few times to eat. I would recommend pizza at "Home Slice Pizza" (VERY GOOD) and the gelato at "DiCocoa's" (If you are a vegetarian, get a little of everything to eat....no kidding. That's what I did!)

Scott sent instructions for a hiking trail off of the road, but we never ended up finding it (we bushwhacked most of the time. hahaha). We took the kayaks out another day and were the only ones on the lake. There was a full moon one night and sitting on the deck, listening to the loons, with the full moon shining...pure magic.

Although the point was to unplug and get away, my husband was able to watch the patriots game (although the remote didn't work, we figured it out through the tv)
