About Ann Spencer
Our family have lived at the barn for the past fifteen years, lovingly refurbishing it and creating the garden that now surrounds it. There’s still plenty to occupy us, but it’s a wonderfully peaceful place to be and we love it! We are classic car enthusiasts and as such, there may be the occasional beautiful car to see around the barn. We are also able to offer you secure parking during your visit should you wish to bring your own pride and joy.

Why Ann Spencer chose Ticehurst
We love the south east of England - it has always been home for us having grown up in Kent, and East Sussex is just that little bit more peaceful.
What makes this Apartment unique
Our home is a quintessentially Sussex barn... black clapboarding with red tiled roof... and is situated in an absolutely ideal location, being right on the edge of a pretty village, yet with far reaching views and with a tranquility that everyone comments upon. Our accommodation offers a wealth of quirky features and comes with a warm welcome, whatever the season!

A restful stay in a beautifully tranquil location
A friend and I stayed for 2 nights at Heartwood Barn and we didn’t want to leave!
The apartment is beautiful, stylish, very well equipped and so cosy and comfortable. It is obvious that a lot of love and thought has gone in to it - from the welcome ‘hamper’ of food to the super soft towels, lovely toiletries, comfortable sofa and beds, well equipped kitchen and also the useful local information pack.
The apartment is located within a courtyard setting with delightful garden adjacent to it. It was very peaceful and we enjoyed opening our blinds in the morning and watching a family of pheasants in the garden.
We loved visiting nearby Sissinghurst and Bewl Water, as well as having an excellent evening meal at the Bell in the village (a 10 minute walk).
Thank you, we will be back!
Thank you so much for this wonderful review! We have been very lucky to have such lovely guests in our apartment; it’s great to meet you all and to be able to give you a base from which to explore the local area. Hopefully, you will all love it as we have come to do! With our kindest regards, Ann and Ian
Spent three nights in July there with my wife and our son joined us for two. Excellent two bedroom self contained ground floor flat within the main building, very clean and well equipped. Ann the host was very friendly and made us welcome with bread, milk ,eggs and bacon waiting inside.
The grounds of the venue are lovely with plenty of space to feel like you could relax without intrusion.
Couldn’t pick a better location with the Bell pub and its restaurant just 10 min walk up the road. A very good Indian takeaway opposite the Bell was a pleasant surprise.
We visited Rye , Bodium castle , Battle Abbey and a beautiful forest park all are within a 10 to 40 min drive.
Can’t praise the property enough definitely recommend it.
Thank you so much for writing this lovely review. We thoroughly enjoyed having you as guests and are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay... we love it here in East Sussex and are delighted that you liked the locality, too! Have a wonderful rest of summer. With our kindest regards, Ann and Ian
Beautiful and peaceful place to stay
We had such a lovely stay at Heartwood Barn - everything from the warm welcome and the kind breakfast supplies to the beautifully presented apartment made our stay in Ticehurst so relaxing and comfortable. Thoroughly recommend!
Highly recommend. Lovely local produce provided, comfortable beds and great shower, very clean.
Warm welcome by the owners of the property and pleasantly pleased with the accommodation. Two beautiful comfortable double beds, freshly laundered. Good quality tea, coffee and local produce in the fridge on arrival. Clean and tidy. You can tell that attention to detail had been taken into consideration and that the owners wished to make the stay of their guests as comfortable as possible. It was truly Home from Home!
So much so we have booked again to come back in a few weeks. Smashing food at the local village pub which was only a five minute walk away!
Highly recommend :)
Ticehurst is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty within the High Weald. As such, there are many places of particular scenic interest and lots of wonderful old houses. Bewl Water, with its reservoir supporting lots of activities, such as sailing and fishing, is a few minutes’ walk from our barn. So, too, is Dale Hill Golf Course, which was designed by golf legend Ian Woosnam and has been described as one that can be enjoyed by all.
Some glorious old houses locally are well worthy of a visit: Pashley Manor is a five minute walk away and always has some spectacular vistas in its 11 acre gardens, particularly at tulip time with carpets of over 30,000 bulbs.
Bateman’s, the former home of Rudyard Kipling, is preserved just as the author left it at Burwash, a short drive away through the lanes. Sissinghurst, the former home of Vita Sackville West and Ben Nicholson and the site where they created one of the most famous gardens in England, is also very close by. The castles of Scotney, Hurstmonceux and Bodium and the famous town of Battle will take you back through English history, while Royal Tunbridge Wells, Tenterden and Lewes bring you bang up to date with first class shopping. Ride a steam train from many places locally or take a mainline train to London for a day’s sightseeing. It’s always lovely coming back to the barn after a busy day and relaxing in its peaceful setting.
