We returned to this property for the New Year break. We flew with Easyjet from Bristol to Toulouse (1hr 20min flight time) then hired a car.
Greeted by blue skies and snowy mountains in the distance, this was a perfect winter break. Relaxing in the garden in the winter sun, no noise except the birds singing and chickens in the distance clucking was bliss.
Getting out and about, within an hour we were at Payolle within the Pyrenees grabbing a quick hot chocolate before hitting the slopes sledging. We also visited the famous Sanctuary in Lourdes which again is under an hour's drive.
The accomodation is extremely well presented, clean and well-equipped. The local Intermarche supermarket is only a couple of miles drive and well-stocked.
We certainly recommend this property.
We stayed here in June, After flying into toulouse airport and hiring a car, we had a really pleasant drive to the house which was really easy to find. What a fantastic, relaxing week we had. The hosts, Cathy and Steve were very friendly and helpful with loads of ideas for days out. The area is beautiful, close to the lively town of trie sur basse, and the larger Lanemezan where there are plenty of places to eat and shop.
The farmhouse is really spacious, comfortable and well equipt, and we spent many a relaxing hour in the garden.
Only one problem....our holiday wasn't long enough. Can't wait to go back
We had 10 days in Villembits holidaying with our 1 & 3 yrs olds. We sailed there on Brittany Ferries' Pont Aven which goes from Plymouth to Santander and then leaves a 4-hour drive all on motorway except the last 20 minutes to arrive at the property.
The views around Villembits are a photographer's dream; mountains in the distance, clear skies, green fields, sunflowers in the summer.
The property is spacious yet homely. It caters well for young children, providing a highchair, cot, potty, training seat, large garden, indoor & outdoor toys & DVDs.
Day trips for families are: parks & weekly markets in the nearby towns of Tarbes & Lannemazon, sightseeing in Auch, Lourdes & other towns. A drive through the Pyrenees to Spain is well worth a trip as wine & fuel is even cheaper there than France. For the more active there is mountain walking, cycling, etc.
A car (and French phrasebook) are a necessity but with the friendly and relaxed atmosphere in the village you may find yourselves enjoying doing nothing and simply picnicking under the walnut tree.
My husband and spent a wonderful week enjoying the comforts, relaxing atmosphere and hospitality of Cathy and Steve in their lovely typically french farmhouse. Rural Villembits made an ideal holiday location for an over worked couple looking for sunshine, peace and quiet, good cycling and mountain walks.
We hired a car from Toulouse Airport and drove for approx one and a half hours along well kept quiet roads through pretty french towns and took in the fantastic scenery. As novices driving on the right did not pose a problem and the signposting along route was excellent.
Cathy and Steve have sensitively updated their farmhouse whilst maintaining its charm. It is spacious and comfortable with a log burner in the inglenook fireplace making the lounge cosy and home from home. The garden has shaded seating areas for the middle of the day and a good size for families with children.
We enjoyed the cycling on qiuiet country roads exploring surrounding villages and the nearby town which has a few shops and cafes where your phrase book is a must!
The Pyrenees are a 40 minute drive away and the views are breathtakingly beautiful and make excellent hiking (and cycling for the real enthusiast).
Seriously thinking of returning for the skiiing season and will certainly be recommending to our friends and work mates.
