About the property

4 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, 2 shower rooms suits 8, 4 adults and 4 kids but adaptabl

A charming traditional small stone house with large salt water pool and separate small guest house set amongst vineyards. There is a large terrace with BBQ and lawned garden area. The house has been sensitively extended from the original barn and restored to create a rustic blend of old and new. Old terracotta floor tiles, beams and a log fire contrast with a steel and stone kitchen with large old wood table. The wysteria covered terrace and a gravelled area has two tables that can be easily moved to selected areas for meals with trees providing sun and shade and a barbeque, suitable for relaxing and eating outdoors. Lawned areas by the terrace and pool are bordered by indigenous grasses and wild flowers. The house was converted and extended in 2002. Whilst having amenities the house is designed as a rustic country cottage in traditional style. The large salt swimming pool is bordered by stone and a large lawned area. The closely adjoining guest house with wet room is adjacent to the pool a few steps from the main house.

The house is secluded set on a lane which leads to the few private houses nearby and has a generally peaceful rural atmosphere. The property is set in agricultural land and there are views vineyards, trees and hills. There is requisite work done on the surrounding land including the grape and olive harvests in the autumn. There is a small neighbouring cabanon to the east used for occasional recreation during the day and the house is otherwise secluded with trees giving privacy whilst there are open views across the valley to hills.

This is a rustic, rural retreat suited to those who appreciate the natural environment and privacy.

The village of Cotignac has numerous shops, three bakeries and many restaurants and the quieter village of Entrecastaux with it's historic Chateaux is close by. There is a supermarket about 7 minutes drive from the house. There are local markets most days in the many nearby villages and in Cotignac on Tuesday. The local co-operative has local wine and olive oil and there are numerous vineyards in the vicinity.

Bastidon du Murier is easily accessible from Toulon, Marseille and Nice airports. it is just over an hour from Aix and MarseilleTGV station, three hours from Paris and just over six hours from London Saint Pancras via Eurostar which is an easy and pleasant way to travel to the house.

Stunningly beautiful, well-maintained and peaceful

  • 5 of 5

Took my children and grandchildren and we had the most wonderful time - the house and pool are perfect; the pool is a salt-water pool, so no evil chemicals, and the whole place has a calm, natural feel to it. The village, local walks and markets are highly recommended - we found it very hard to leave! Owners responded immediately to questions and clearly thought a lot about visitor comfort - good books, aesthetic planting, lovely linens and no clutter. Fabulous.

Stay at Bastidon du Murier

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent a lovely week at Bastidon du Murier with our three children (ranging from 5 years down to a 9 month baby). It was perfect for what we wanted, particularly the generous amount of outdoor space, the terrace and the lovely swimming pool which the children played in all day. The garden is surrounded by vineyards and it's a very tranquil place. The house is very pretty, both inside and out, and there is a lovely big kitchen with a proper gas hob - so cooking was a pleasure. We were quite content just to spend the day relaxing at the house but Contignac is a lovely town and just down the road so we did our morning croissant & baguette run each day and had supper there on a couple of evenings. We even walked into the town with the children one evening. We'd thoroughly recommend this house for a really relaxed holiday in a gorgeous setting - we were very sad to leave!

Provencal Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Christopher and I loved this beautifully simple house and garden. Having intended to go out and explore the area, we both were seduced by the house and garden and found it difficult to leave. This was because the area was so perfect - quiet and rural and one felt surrrounded by unspoilt,Provencal landscape. It was the perfect distance from charming Cotignac with its wonderful market. It was such a joy to sit on the terrace and beside the pool looking out across the beautiful garden and countryside to the hills beyond. The house itself was so well designed and thought out with a lovely, big country kitchen that opened out onto a sheltered but also sunny terrace. The bedroom where we slept was romantic and extremely comfortable and you felt, with the shutters open, part of the surrounding countryside.

Find the Peace and Charm of Provence here...

  • 5 of 5

Born and raised in Provence, but now living in the United States, my husband wanted to stay at a house that would feel like home. We were traveling with our two children (ages 4 & 2) and knew we would be spending as much time in the home, as out in the villages. It was the perfect location to head out to the markets, gather all the treasures offered there, and return to a home where we could invite friends and family and relax all together in the kitchen, on the terrace or by the pool. My husband is a chef, and he found everything he needed in the kitchen. This home has every amenity you would need and is very tastefully decorated. There were not excessive knick-knacks placed all over the home where we feared our children would break something everytime we turned our heads. Simple elegance and charm, the perfect retreat when you are looking to spend time together as a family with little stress and much relaxation. The pool is large and well maintained, with the steps crossing the entire length from end to end...good for the children and for sitting and reading while cooling off! The surrounding gardens are beautiful, enormous lavendar plants and flowers border the yard where our children could play safely with no worries about them heading out to the road. The Bastidon du Murier is tucked away amongst the vineyards, and it is very rare to hear a car drive by during the day or night. The rooms inside were neat and clean, and once again simply decorated with refined luxury. To sum it up, if we were ever to look for a home to return to in the future, this is where we would want to be.
