Overview

About the property

Six large double bedrooms, all en suite, with pool, games court and vine yard

Welcome to @ZororoRetreat, a relaxing haven set in the heart of central Portugal's Beira region, frequently described as the most attractive corner of this special country. Located on the borders of a traditional village in the Serra Lousa hills with the Ceira River and beach a short walk down the valley side, just 3 minutes by car is the beautiful town of Gois.

We offer luxurious accommodation to those who would benefit from time away from the stresses of everyday life.

Our 5-en suite double bedrooms are air-conditioned, with central heating and generously sized; each has a balcony with views across the valley. A large kitchen, lounge and games room are downstairs. Outside there is a good sized, gated pool, our own vineyard and private tennis/games court.

We also offer a 6th twin bedroom on the middle floor, again with ensuite bathroom and step in shower. This 6th bedroom is optional and is ideal for those with mobility issues as it reduces the need to use the stairs. The room is also ideal if you have a number of younger children, with the addition of 2 fold-up beds this room can sleep upto 4.

See our facebook page www.facebook.com/ZororoRetreat for events around the area or our website for a video tour of the villa. www.zororo.co.uk

Zororo's location: The area around @ZororoRetreat provides a wide variety of country activities, including horse riding, hill walking, nature watching, canoeing, cycling, etc, as well as a unique opportunity to see and experience the 'real' Portugal that is little altered from a century ago, in the farming communities, people and way of life of the region.

Only slightly further a field is Portugal’s old capital and university city of Coimbra, with the often deserted sand dune backed beaches of the Silver Coast beyond. The Knights Templar last European stronghold at Tomar and the Roman ruins in Conimbraga are easily reached, as is the Serra Estrella (‘mountains of the stars’) National Park.

Why Michelle & Gordon Young chose Coimbra Region

Having fallen in love with the Portugal. we looked around central Portugal for a house that had a certain 'wow' factor and found it here! Countryside location on the edge of a 'real' Portuguese village, with cafes & bars, restaurant, butcher, mini-market, pharmacist and petrol station.

What makes this villa unique

Properly in rural Portugal, placed on the edge of a popular but modest village just a few hundred metres above the River Ceira with it's award-winning River-beach and cafe.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Gordon and Michelle

We wanted to let you know that we have had what we think is our best retreat yet.

The yogis were full of compliments about your home, and we found it a fantastic place to host them.

Looking forward to 2018 dates.

Beautiful, relaxing villa

  • 5 of 5

We had a ten day stay in August at this lovely villa. There were nine of us and the villa has lots of little nooks and crannies for chilling out in -- it's big enough so that we all felt we had our own space. The fruit gardens were an added bonus and we baked figs and apples for breakfast -- delicious! A lovely area although a car a must to be able to explore. Kayaking on the Mondego was brilliant -- we'd recommend it!

Luxurious spacious well equipped villa

  • 5 of 5

We stayed there during warm weather in the very spacious luxurious villa with all the bathrooms/toilets you could ever dream of. The large, recently built is villa situated in a wonderful garden with a great swimming pool area and several outdoor, shaded sitting areas. We, a party of 7, had a terrific relaxing time there. The rooms are big with balconies allowing everyone a piece of privacy if wished for. There are many options for entertainment at the villa itself, both outdoor multi-court with tennis and basketball hoops, the pool, bicycles, the garden, bbq etc. Inside there is a well equipped games room with an impressive large home cinema system etc.

The villa is situated in a small quiet town, but there is a very well equipped super market, butcher, bank, atm, a few bars/cafees etc, florist, river café etc.

The nearby town of Gois offers different dining experiences.

This is one of the best villas we have ever stayed in, with a define home feeling. The english owners are very helpful and goes out of their way to make you feel right at home.

This comes highly recommended.

A car is necessary to get here, and to get around.

Amazing experience - thanks so much

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I spent three days at the house but wanted to spend a week or two. We only just scratched the surface of the local area and didn't even get to the tennis court as we were so happy by the pool and in the games room. A very happy and spacious home! Thanks so much!

Blissful!

  • 5 of 5

If you're looking for a place to get away from it all, which has all the luxuries you could ever need, then this is your place. Unusually for the time of year, we didn't have particularly good weather when 10 of us stayed here, but it didn't stop us having a great time due to all the facilities and great equipment (there are several tennis racquets for different sized hands!).

The house is spotlessly clean and very well maintained and we had great help from the owners when we asked for local information. Thoroughly recommend this house for your stay.

Peaceful relaxation

  • 5 of 5

Set in a rural area it is very quiet but a 10 minute walk away is a local village with a bank, petrol station, butcher's (useful for the bbq!), supermarket, pharmacy, and some cafes also a short car journey takes you Gios which has some restaurants and river beaches. The villa is well equipped with a pool and good sporting facilities as well as a great games room.

Great house, great area.

  • 5 of 5

The house had everything we expected and a bit more: the home cinema was really a plus for children and adults when weather outside was not so good. Rooms were large and the fact that all of them were suites was great. The outside area was excellent, especially for our dog. The football ground was enjoyed by the kids. We did not use the swimming pool, of course, but it should be a 'must' in summertime.

The surrounding area is great for walking and sightseeing. I had not been in Góis for a long time and it is gorgeous. Várzea Grande/V.N. Ceira (which I did not know before) is also beautiful, and people are rather nice.

All in all, great experience. Certainly to be repeated.

Car: recommended

Just a short walk to the nearest river beach, which has a small sandy beach and nice cafe, BBQ facilities and loos.

One of the greatest attractions of the Góis region is the abundance of places to swim in the summer months. There are so many places dotted along the river Ceira where you can find a way into the water, and everyone has their own favourite. This place really does have something to suit everyone, from secluded spots that take a bit of hunting for, to river beaches with full facilities, café-bars and lifeguards, and everything in-between.

Loads of local woods and trails to walk through, lovely 100% Portuguese village and very friendly and helpful locals!
