Four of us saved hard for a special trip to London for Notting Hill Carnival and to visit friends and family. One of our party had a ticket for Wembley to see Hull beat Warrington in the RL cup final.
The apartment was advertised as "luxury" with a complimentary bottle of champagne. Unfortunately, it wasn't luxurious and the champagne had become cava. The "terrace" and ledge below the front window had litter and cigarette ends on them. Not a good look.
There was one lamp in the living room. It didn't work. There were no bedside lamps in the downstairs bedroom. The wardrobe back was hanging off with nails sticking out.
I opened the oven door and was horrified to find the baking tray/grill pan was covered in old grease. We were furious. There is not even salt and pepper provided. The washing machine was another disappointment. No laundry detergent or fabric conditioner are provided so we had to buy some. I loaded the machine and added the detergent. I could not get it to work. Eventually it started. Half an hour later I checked on it and found nothing had happened. I had to spend ages hand washing.
There is no cleaning cloths or sponges or cleaning products. The lights fused one night and it took ages to find the fuse box. It is very difficult to see the code for the key box when it's dark. The best thing about this property is the location. Apart from that, it's disappointing and needs a good clean and a lick of paint. I have photographic evidence of all the above.
You did ask.
The apartment is in a great location very close to Islington's bars, restaurants and shops and a 10 minute walk to Angel tube station to take you to central London. It was a good size for our group of 5 friends. We chose the property because it had enough beds for each of us to have our own without sharing. However, only 3 double beds were made up with linen. I emailed the owner to ask for linen for two single beds but he replied 'The apartment is made up for 6 guests with 3 double beds. If you want more bedding then it's classes as more people.its says on the website.' In a second email he said there may one set of sheets in the flat that we could use but in fact the only linen was in a locked cupboard. I checked on the website but it does not say anything about the bed situation. I have not had this experience in other holiday apartments. I would suggest to the owner that he asks the renter before taking the booking how many beds they would like made up and give them a quote based on that. I would also suggest that he removes the word 'Luxury' from the description. The flat was fine but with some scuffed paintwork, showers which go from hot to cold and back without touching the controls, a cracked bathroom sink and threadbare seats on one of the leather sofas, it should not be described as a luxury property.
1. Nice location. Easy to get to anywhere.
3. Champagne upon arrival is a nice touch.
1. Wifi: You have to pay for it yourself. Furthermore, it requires a credit card with a UK address to activate it. The rate is ￡10 for 1 GB, ￡15 for 3 GB, and ￡25 for 5 GB. All good for 30 days.
2. Washer: The drying function does not work and the cloth coming out is very wet (so both drying and spinning functions do not work). I notice that the same issue was encountered by another reviewer in 2015 and it apparently has not been fixed.
3. The front bedroom facing the street is very noise as the street is pretty busy.
Well located and spacious apartment. Ideal for our large group. Thanks for the free champagne!
My friends and I stayed this September. We were a party of 9 people and we were pleasantly surprised with the amount of space we had.
The apartment was just what we needed and expected and was well prepared and clean for our arrival. We arrived after midnight so used the lockbox system to checkin which was really impressive
This was a great place to spend our early autumn break in London. Everything was how we hoped. The host was really great and we appreciated the complimentary bottle of bubbly on arrival!
The large living room and dining table was perfect for us as was the large separate kitchen for cooking. 2 bathrooms was a real benefit as we were a large group.
The location is better than expected. Both tube stations were only a few minutes walk away. One night we stayed in the area as there were plenty of trendy bars and restaurants on the doorstep
we will definitely return and I highly recommend this apartment
Situated conveniently between the two tube stations of Angel and Highbury and Islington. This makes anywhere in London easily accessible by tube which is only a 3 minute walk away.
Islington is a very trendy neighbourhood with over 100 bars and restaurants. The canal passes through the south and has a lovely river-walk on its banks.
Kings Cross is one tube station away (60 seconds) and Leciester Square and Covent Garden only 10 minutes by tube.
