Vintage Craftsman meets modern amenities near Lake Harriett!!
This was a great house for my husband and I to visit family in Minneapolis - great location - we walked to Lake Harriet every single day! The house was very well stocked with good quality linens, bedding and pillows - plenty of condiments and personal items -the kitchen was fabulous to cook in! We loved the front porch, screened in back porch and we even used the front yard swing several times! The creative rustic design of the barn doors - craftsman architecture, newly remodeled kitchen and bath, blended well with the overall design and feel of this vintage home! So much charm and warmth in this house - we just loved staying here and will want to return again!
not for us
We recently spent about a week at this property and it did not fit us well. It started off on the wrong foot when our reservation was shortened by one day because the owner had a scheduling conflict. It was very inconvenient for us 4 adults and 3 children to find a single night stay somewhere else. When we arrived we found the driveway to be so narrow that we could not easily take children in and out of the passenger side back seat without being engulfed in the unruly vines separating the adjacent property. The home is 100 years old, and it definitely shows. Sloping floors, odd layout, and creaky steps are all prominent in this home. The main floor bathroom is "separated" where the shower is on one side of the bedroom and the toilet is on the other. The sliding doors on the bathroom reveal a little too much of its occupants due to the sloping frame of the house causing large gaps. The stairs leading to the 2nd floor are potentially very dangerous since there is only a small barrier between the stairs / landing and the main floor sitting area below. We couldn't trust that our children wouldn't fall over the short wall, 6+ feet down to the main floor. And forget about the "sitting area" downstairs. Not sure who would want to relax and watch TV in a 100 year old unfinished concrete basement. The upstairs shower did not accommodate our tallest adult who is only about 5'10." He had to shower with his head tilted down in order to avoid the ceiling. We found what seemed to be a broken metal piece of a plug in an outlet exposed for any little fingers to touch. There was a broken vent cover that could easily be stepped on causing a foot laceration. Overall it did not seem inviting or comfortable for us. And, it was awkward, cluttered and potentially dangerous for our kids. The upsides to the home is the location close to the Harriet Bandshell, tree swing in the front, well stocked kitchen, and porch in the back.
To be clear I caught that I had made a reservation error within an hour of accepting the dates. I called the guest and offered to cancel the reservation so they could find a different accommodation. The guest chose to stay one night shorter. This was not a last minute booking so I assume the guest had ample time to make arrangements for their family to stay elsewhere.
The rest of this review is tough for me to stomach. I t feels vindictive. This house presents just as the photos indicate. It is a older home and has the characteristics as such. There is some slope in some floors. It is clean, nicely appointed and in a fantastic area. We recently added barn doors to the powder room where it adjoins to the downstairs bedroom. The shower room also adjoins the downstairs bedroom. It also has a barn door. I feel these doors offer privacy and convenience to a bedroom that has four doors!
You could peek into the powder room from the bedroom if you really tried! The downstairs bedroom offers a master bedroom feel. Due to space limitations we were not able to add a full bath in the former closet so we remade it into a large tile steam shower with a sink. Then we added a powder room that also adjoins the bedroom under the stairs. The powder room also has a regular door so it can be accessed from the public areas of the home. This guest did not like this layout. I love it because it works!
These guests did not follow the house rules. They left trash strewn in several bedrooms and did not clean up the kitchen, leaving food and lots of dishes, trash and recycling for me to deal with. Most awkwardly they did not check out on time and were still at the house for an hour beyond check out time. This was inconvenient for my cleaners and my incoming guests. Please read the five star revews below!
Wonderful place, great location!
This place was perfect for our family of 5 and we loved walking to lakes, Linden Hills, etc! Nice amenities and charming house.
Charming home in a convenient location
This is a well cared for home in a great neighborhood. It is old but has been nicely updated. The living room and dining areas are cozy and relaxing but open at the same time. As in most older homes, the creaking floors mean you know more about everyone's whereabouts than you may want, but overall the charm of the place overcomes this. The kitchen is well stocked and works well. There is parking for only one car in the driveway because it also contains a small camping trailer. The house is well built and there is no noise from the street once you are inside. We highly recommend the place and would try to rent again if we again needed four bedrooms. The owner was very easy to work with. We also appreciated the artwork. There was not a lot of it, but it was interesting. Like the house itself, it suggested that the owner has a thoughtful approach.
Randolph and his family are awesome guests.
I enjoyed hosting them very much!
They left my home in great shape and enjoyed their stay.
Thank you Randy and family!
Lovely property in great location!
We enjoyed our long weekend at the house and our kids loved the amenities (tree swing, trampoline, and ping pong table). The location was perfect and walkable to Linden Hills Village and lakes (with a great playground at Lake Harriet). The house had plenty of space and nice furnishings. It is worth mentioning that the beds are all quite low platform style beds, which would be a challenge for anyone that has difficulty getting up and down. Overall, a great experience!
Excellent home and location
We rented this home several weeks ago whilst in MN for summer vacation. The house was perfectly comfortable for our party of two adults and four children and the location is ideal for enjoying the lakes and local restaurants. Special shout out for Tilia which is a superb restaurant five minutes walk from the home. Thanks for renting to us, we will be back!
Piper place is nestled between Lake Harriet and Lake Bde Maka Ska ( Formerly Lake Calhoun and the village of Linden Hills. Numerous eateries, shopping, coffee, bars, hardware, boating, biking, swimming, boat rentals,. It 's a super location. The house itself is rather privately set for a city location and offers porches, a gorgeous fenced and shady yard, trampoline, ping pong table, bikes, paddleboards, a big yard swing, off street parking and much more!
